Never heard of this band/artist before, until a friend of mine turned me onto Beloved a few minutes ago.

Wow am I ever blown away.

Any recs? :heart::pirate:

Yeah, they're definitely one of my most favorite bands... probably one of my top three, at that.

My favorite songs by them are Chrome, Joy, and Legion. Although their latest album "Judgement" has been out for a while, I still can't decide if I like it or not.

What do they sound like?

Their music can be described as "Futurepop", which probably doesn't help you at all. It uses elements of uplifting trance, industrial/EBM, and synthpop.

Basically, sweet hard techno-esque music with dark, epic lyrics over it.

As for song recommendations, I'll list them by album:
Advance & Follow: Frika
Praise the Fallen: Joy, Honour, Solitary
Empires: Kingdom, Rubicon, Standing, Legion, Darkangel
Burning Empires: Further
Futureperfect: Epicenter, Genesis, Beloved
Matter + Form: Chrome, Arena, Homeward, Perpetual
Judgement: Furthest Star, Testament, Nemesis, Illusion

Empires and Futureperfect are probably their best. Praise the Fallen and Advance & Follow have a fairly large reliance on sampling and non-lyrical tracks, and Matter + Form and Judgement seem to have come back to the same kind of pattern (on both albums, there are 5 tracks {out of 11 and 10} that contain no lyrics). Which is a shame, because honestly every "actual" song they've put out has merit.

Also, if you like VNV Nation, you may also like Assemblage 23, Seabound, and Neuroticfish

OH FUCK YES I LOVE THIS FUCKING GROUP

I got to see them in Rochester last year, they put on an AMAZING show. I'm so pissed, I had no idea they had a new album out. I wonder if I kinda stopped following them because Matter + Form was a bit disappointing to me.

Listen to the songs wildfire said, those are definitely the best. I can sum up their albums like this: the earlier the music is, the angrier and more industrial it is. As they progressed, they got less angry and more poppy with each album.

This is true as well, though Matter + Form had some angrier/industrial-er gems like Chrome. Judgement was rather a disappointment compared to earlier albums, but the earliest stuff loses the amazing synth lines that make Empires and Futureperfect so good.

Also apparently they have another new album coming out in June. Despite Judgement, I'm excited. Especially since I'm seeing them in June at the Blackfield Festival in Germany.
