[OVERVIEW]

Volcanion is an excellent bulky attacker that can dish out massive damage with a STAB combination only resisted by Water- and Dragon-types. Volcanion also possesses defensive utility thanks to its good defenses and unique typing. It fits well on semi-Trick Room teams, which let Volcanion reliably OHKO several dangerous Pokemon like Heatran and Genesect without needing to take a hit beforehand. Diancie can set Trick Room for Volcanion while also beating Kyurem-B. Rillaboom and Zeraora can use Fake Out to allow Volcanion to create Substitutes and easily beat Water-types. In return, Volcanion reliably beats Steel-types for Diancie and Fire-types for Rillaboom. Volcanion can struggle to find attacking opportunities with its awkward Speed tier forcing it to take a hit if it doesn't have speed control, and several Pokemon like Kyurem-B, Tapu Fini, Dragapult, and Urshifu-R can easily switch into Volcanion and threaten it out. It also faces stiff competition as a Water-type from the aforementioned Tapu Fini and Urshifu-R, as well as a Fire-type from Heatran and Incineroar.

[SET]
name: Bulky Attacker
move 1: Steam Eruption
move 2: Heat Wave
move 3: Substitute / Earth Power
move 4: Protect
item: Leftovers / Safety Goggles
ability: Water Absorb
nature: Modest
evs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

* Steam Eruption deals large amounts of damage to even neutral targets, and it destroys Fire- and Ground-type Pokemon like Incineroar and Landorus-T. It also can punish switch-ins with its high burn chance.

* Heat Wave is a spread move that hits Grass-types that resist Steam Eruption, like Rillaboom and Amoonguss.

* Volcanion can set up Substitute on Genesect, on Incineroar, and while next to a Fake Out user, and this allows Volcanion to attack freely without fear of attacks like Zygarde's Thousand Arrows. Earth Power is an option over Substitute to hit Volcanion, which would otherwise wall it. If Earth Power is run, Safety Goggles should be Volcanion's item to retain the ability to block Amoonguss's Spore.

* Protect keeps Volcanion safe so a teammate can come in and support it, such as Rillaboom with its Fake Out, while also allowing a teammate to set up ether Trick Room or Tailwind.

* Leftovers restores Volcanion's lost health from Substitute, while Safety Goggles allows it to switch into Amoonguss's Spore and ignore its Rage Powder when not running Substitute.

* Water Absorb lets Volcanion switch into Urshifu-R's Surging Strikes and completely wall it if it's Choice locked.

* EVs can be shifted from HP to Speed to outspeed Zeraora in Tailwind, or Volcanion can utilize a Quiet nature and 0 Speed IVs to be as fast as possible under Trick Room.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Sludge Bomb hits Tapu Fini and Overheat is a stronger Fire-type STAB move that also bypasses Wide Guard, but both have less utility overall than Substitute or Earth Power. Toxic is also an option to wear down Pokemon Volcanion doesn't immediately threaten, like Porygon2, and works well with Rillaboom removing Misty Terrain. However, unlike Substitute and Earth Power, its utility takes a long time to set in. Heavy-Duty Boots is an alternate item to prevent Stealth Rock from rapidly wearing down Volcanion, but it is useless without opposing entry hazards. Shuca Berry can let Volcanion take Ground-type attacks like Landorus's Earth Power and Zygarde's Thousand Arrows, although it's useful in far fewer situations than Leftovers or Safety Goggles.

[OVERVIEW]
  • I would reword the opening sentence. I'd rather not mention it matching up well into Heatran and Genesect (that can come later) in the first sentence. Instead, focus on what makes Volcanion good (Great Special Attack, Fire / Water typing, good bulk) which you all already mention.
  • Bug / Steel aren't really notable offensive typings (it's really only Genesect off the top of my head) so I would delete the sentence. Same thing with the 4x Fire Weakness: it's not important enough to be the third sentence in the overview and we can talk about its good matchups into Heatran and Genesect in a better way.
  • The second sentence should be where you talk about its STAB combination, since Water / Fire is quite good as you mention, and you can expand on it from the first sentence. I would also merge this with the sentence with how it can make progress.
  • I think you need to expand on its weaknesses since right now you only have one sentence. You can go further and say how its awkward speed means it usually needs to eat a hit without speed control, mention the common Water and Dragon types that resists its STABs (Kyurem-B, Tapu Fini, Urshifu-R, Dragapult), and even say how it faces competition from other Water and Fire types (two previously mentioned as well as Heatran and Volcanion). I would also move the downsides sentence(s) to the bottom of the paragraph.
  • Mention first how Volcanion fits best on semiroom compositions and then go into good partners like Diancie and Rillaboom. Here is where you can mention how with the speed advantage, Volcanion can OHKO threats such as Heatran, Incineroar, and Genesect
  • Mention how Volcanion beats Steel-types for Diancie and Fire-types for Rillaboom.
A lot of this was ordering, so to clarify:
  1. 1-2 sentences about what makes Volcanion, Volcanion. (Bullet Points 1/3)
  2. Fits best on semiroom teams where it can take advantage of the speed advantage. (Bullet Point 5)
  3. Diancie / Rillaboom as good partners (Bullet Point 6)
  4. Drawbacks (Bullet Point 4)
[SET]

Slash Earth Power on Substitute. Talk about how it hits other Volcanion since you are otherwise walled by it. Also make clear in the items line that if running Earth Power, you should run Safety Goggles.
  • I wouldn't mention that Heat Wave is weaker than Steam Eruption.
  • Remove the second sentence in the Substitute line. Instead, add examples of what Volcanion can use Substitute on.
  • Say how Protect also allows Volcanion's partner to set up Trick Room or Tailwind.
  • I would say how Water Absorb lets it switch into Urshifu-R and completely wall it if its Choice locked since that seems like the most practical use of it. I don't even think I would talk about Tapu Fini here since you are generally walled by it anything.
  • Use 252/252 spread. Mention how Volcanion can shift EVs from HP --> Speed to outspeed threats such as Zeraora in Tailwind or how it can use a Quiet Nature and 0 Speed IVs to take advantage of Trick Room.
[OTHER OPTIONS]
  • Remove Earth Power since that's slashed now.
  • I'm probably going to revisit this section in case the QC team wants to add more than just Sludge Bomb and Heavy-Duty Boots.
Implement and tag.

[OVERVIEW]

Volcanion is a excellent bulky attacker that uses its great power to can dish out massive amounts of damage thanks to it's its great Special Attack stat and STAB combination that is only resisted by Water- and Dragon-types, Split this sentence into two here. while also possessing defensive utility thanks to its great bulk and unique Fire / Water typing. You use "great" twice and also use "bulky attacker" and then later on "great bulk" so I would vary the repetition to help the sentence flow better. Specifically, Volcanion's main appeal is in its power. It has a good STAB combination that is only resisted by Water- and Dragon- types along with a great Special Attack stat of 130 to boot, which can allow Volcanion to force progress throughout a game if it gets an opportunity to fire off an attack. This basically says what you already said in the opening sentence so I think it is not needed. Volcanion can struggle to find those opportunities to do that with it's awkward Speed tier forcing it to take a hit before attacking if it doesn't have speed control, while several Pokemon like Kyurem-B, Tapu Fini, Dragapult, and Urshifu-R can easily switch into Volcanion and threaten it out. It also faces stiff compitition competition as a Water-type from the aforementioned Tapu Fini and Urshifu-R and as well as a Fire-type from Heatran and Incineroar. Move this section about downsides to the end of the overview for organizational purposes. Also, while Volcanion doesn't fill a similar role to any of the four mentioned Pokemon, it still becomes difficult to stack types so I think it's worth being mentioned. Volcanion fits well on semi-Trick Room teams due to their ability to as they provide reliable speed control, under which Volcanion can reliably OHKO several dangerous Pokemon like Heatran and Genesect without needing to take a hit beforehand. Two of Volcanion's best partners, Rillaboom and Diancie, are also extremely present on semi-Trick Room teams. I don't think this is needed. I would rather you just mention how Rillaboom and Diancie are solid partners because of XYZ. Rillaboom can use Fake Out to allow Volcanion to create substitutes while also providing passive recovery Passive recovery is good for everything, so I think you need to mention either that it helps with Substitute or remove it. and reliably beating Water-types who resist Volcanion's STAB moves. Diancie can set Trick Room for Volcanion, while also easily beating Kyurem-B. In return, Volcanion easily You say easily twice back-to-back. Please change one of them. beats Fire-types for Rillaboom and Steel-types for Diancie.

* Steam Eruption is a powerful attack that deals large amounts of damage to even neutral targets, and destroys Fire- and Ground-type Pokemon like Incineroar and Landorus-T. It also has the benefit of potentially punishing switch-ins with its high burn chance.

* Heat Wave is a spread move that also hits Grass-types that resist Steam Eruption, like Rillaboom and Amoonguss.

* Substitute allows Volcanion to attack freely without fear of attacks like Zygarde's Thousand Arrows temporarily. Volcanion can find opportunities to set up Substitute on Genesect, Incineroar, Semiroom teams, and while next to a Fake Out user. Merge the two sentences, and structure it something like "Volcanion can use Substitute on XYZ which then allows it to do ABC." Earth Power is an option over Substitute for its ability to hit opposing Volcanion that would otherwise wall it. If Earth Power is run, Safety Goggles should be Volcanion's item.

* Protect keeps Volcanion safe so a teammate can come and support it, such as Rillaboom and its Fake Out, while also allowing a teammate to set up ether Trick Room or Tailwind.

* Leftovers increases Volcanion's longevity, which can allow it to make more substitutes, I don't love how the beginning of this sentence is structured. I would instead say how Leftovers works well with Substitute to regain the lost HP. while Safety Goggles allows it to switch into Amoonguss's Spore and avoid redirection attempts from it.

* Water Absorb can let lets Volcanion switch into Urshifu-R's Surging Strikes and completely wall it if it's locked by a Choice Band or Choice Scarf.

* EVs can be shifted from HP to Speed to outspeed certain threats Zeraora in Tailwind, while Volcanion can also utilize a Quiet nature and 0 Speed IVs to get the maximum benefit possible be as fast as possible from under Trick Room.

Sludge Bomb hits Tapu Fini and has an additional poison chance, which can make switching in even harder. However outside of hitting it's one Target, Sludge Bomb but is has less useful utility overall than Substitute or Earth Power. Heavy Duty Boots Heavy-Duty Boots is an alternate item to prevent Volcanion from getting rapidly worn down from Stealth Rock, but many teams lack Stealth Rock, so it can easily be a dead item slot. is useless against no hazards. Add a single target Fire-type move (Overheat, Fire Blast, Flamethrower) alongside Sludge Bomb as a more powerful Fire-type STAB attack that gets around Wide Guard that is also less useful than Substitute or Earth Power.
