Hey guys! I wanted to start playing OU with my own team, not ripped ones, and I would be very grateful if you can help me to complete this one. Let's start:
Scizor @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn
- Superpower
- Pursuit
I decided to build around a VolTurn core, so I chose Scizor and Rotom-W. Bullet Punch gives Scizor a good STAB move with priority. U-Turn is required to build a VolTurn. Supepower provides a powerful coverage against Heatran, Ferrothorn and Chansey, as well as hitting neutral targets hard. Pursuit is chosen over Knock Off to trap or revenge kill weakened targets or frail Psychic and Ghost types, such as Gardevoir, Latios and Celebi.
Rotom-Wash @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split
I chose Rotom-W over Landorus-T to build this core due to the great defensive synergy that Rotom provides by burning targets with Will-O-Wisp. Volt Switch is also needed to form the VolTurn core. Paired with Hydro Pump, it mainly checks targets such as Talonflame, Azumarill and Landorus-T. Pain Split is chosen as a recovery move and to control stall.
Lopunny @ Lopunnite
Ability: Limber
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Fake Out
- Return
- High Jump Kick
- Ice Punch
I realized that Mega-Lopunny was an excellent cleaner for this team, as Rotom checks Lopunny's threats, like Talon and Azuma. Fake Out provides priority and it hits hard almost any target. Return and HJK provide perfect coverage, and Ice Punch hits hard x4 targets such as Dragonite, Landorus-T, Gliscor, Garchomp...
Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Stealth Rock
- Lava Plume
- Toxic
- Taunt
When I chose Rotom-W over Landorus-T, I noticed the lack of Stealth Rocks in my team. I thought Heatran could be useful to this job. It walls Clefable, Scizor, Talonflame, Latios, Mega Venusaur... It also breaks stall with Taunt and Toxic. Lava Plume provides good coverage against Magnezone, Skarmory, Ferrothorn, Serperior, etc.
Manaphy @ Leftovers
Ability: Hydration
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Tail Glow
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Energy Ball
Until now, my team has a pretty good Attack, but my Special Attackers are all Utility mons. I thought Manaphy could fit in this team, as it provides a huge Special Attack stat by setting up Tail Glow. Scald provides STAB, cripples physical attackers and it almost OHKO's any mon when it's +3. Ice Beam does OHKO Garchomp and Landorus-T without getting hurt by Rocky Helmet. Energy Ball is my only Grass move, and it's needed to hit Water types, such as Keldeo, Quagsire, Swampert or other Manaphy. Its decent HP, Def and SpD stats are also useful to switch in against not effective moves.
Excadrill @ Air Balloon
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rock Slide
- Rapid Spin
To complete my team, I needed a spinner or defogger. I prefer spinners in order not to remove my own hazards, but there are only 2 spinners in OU. Choosing Starmie would make my team very weak to Grass, as I would have 3 water mons, so I decided to pick Excadrill. Air Balloon is chosen over any other item because I think Rotom-W is not enough resistance against Ground. Earthquake provides good STAB and coverage against some threats like Volcanion, Heatran, specs Magnezone, Tyranitar, Terrakion, Klefki and many more. Iron Head hits Clefable, Gardevoir, Togekiss, Diancie, Weavile, Kyurem-B. Rock Slide to Flying types, and Rapid Spin to remove those annoying hazards that really hurt my team.
