Vullaby is an excellent entry hazard remover thanks to its access to Defog, great bulk, and longevity. Foul Play lets Vullaby reliably check some of the hardest-hitting wallbreakers in the tier such as Gourgeist-L, Fraxure, and Stoutland. Knock Off is an alternative over Foul Play to remove items from walls such as Hippopotas and Vespiquen, but it is far weaker and makes Vullaby more passive. Vullaby's slow U-turn lets it safely bring its teammates onto the field. Taunt can be used over U-turn, allowing Vullaby to break passive walls such as Dusclops, Hippopotas, and Pyukumuku. Toxic is another option that cripples common switch-ins such as Stonjourner, Corsola, and Silvally-Ice. Whirlwind can be run to phaze setup sweepers like Swoobat and Bellossom that need several boosts to break through Vullaby. Brave Bird can be run in order to threaten Fighting-types such as Machoke, Grapploct, and Hakamo-o, which can otherwise freely switch in on Vullaby.

This set struggles against special attackers such as Mr. Mime, Raichu, and Lunatone, so special walls such as Klang and Dusclops are great partners. Moreover, Ice-type checks like Corsola, Lampent, and Munchlax are appreciated, since Ice-types such as Silvally-Ice, Galarian Mr. Mime, and Glalie threaten Vullaby. Corsola is especially good paired with Vullaby, since it can absorb Knock Off from Persian and Galarian Linoone while enjoying Vullaby's ability to handle Gourgeist-L and Leafeon. Furthermore, Vullaby can form a VoltTurn core with other pivots such as Klang, Vespiquen, and Seaking, so wallbreakers enjoying slow VoltTurn such as Pikachu, Mr. Mime, and Gourgeist-L are good teammates. Offensive teammates that are weak to Stealth Rock such as Silvally-Ice, Swoobat, and Lampent benefit from Vullaby's Defog while also pressuring stallbreakers that beat Vullaby like Ivysaur.

Vullaby is ZU's premier hazard control, thanks to its acces to Defog, great bulk, and longevity thanks to Roost. Moreover, Vullaby counters some of the hardest hitting wallbreakers in the tier such as Gourgeist-L and Farfetch'd. Knock Off is an alternative over Foul Play as a STAB move an option to remove the Eviolite off opposing walls, but it is far weaker and makes Vullaby too passive (while its true its a stab move, both foul play / knock off have utility that should be compared). Vullaby's slow U-turn enables to safely bring its teammates on the field. Taunt can also be used over U-turn, allowing Vullaby to break passive wall such as Dusclops, Trubbish, and Pyukumuku. Toxic is another option that cripples common switch-ins such as Sudowoodo, Corsola, and Silvally-Ice. Overcoat is the prefered ability since it enables Vullaby to switch into Gloom's Sleep Powder as well as to avoid chip damage from Hippopotas's Sandstorm and Alolan Vulpix's Hail.(fluff, big pecks is always irrelevant and weak armor on a wall is nonsense, so no need for justification)

Vullaby struggles against special attackers such as Mr. Mime, Wartortle, and Lunatone, therefore special walls such as Lickitung and Dusclops are great partners. Moreover, Ice-type checks like Corsola, Lampent, and Cufant are appreciated since Ice-types such as Silvally-Ice, Galarian Mr. Mime, and Glalie threaten Vullaby. Furthermore, Vullaby can form a VoltTurn core with other pivots such as Klang, Torracat, and Mienfoo, therefore wallbreakers enjoying slow VoltTurn such as Flame Orb Machoke, Mr. Mime, and Gourgeist-Large are good teammates. (Mention offensive teammates like the aforementioned Silvally-Ice and Torracat that are additional pivots which benefiet from Defog while pressuring stallbreakers that break Vullaby like Ivysaur)
