[OVERVIEW]

Wailord finds its only niche in the PU metagame by PP stalling with Pressure and is otherwise outclassed by other Water-type pokemon like Jellicent and Floatzel that provide much better offensive utility. Wailord may possess a colossal HP stat, but this is offset by its meager defenses. This means it often finds itself unable to switch in well against a lot of strong wallbreakers such as Stoutland and Aggron and is setup bait for Pokemon like Leafeon and Dodrio. As a defensive Water-type, it is again outclassed by Jellicent, which provides a better defensive typing, an immunity to Water, and access to Will-O-Wisp to cripple physical attackers such as Crabominable. Wailord only warrants use on stall teams, but even on stall, Pyukumuku does a better job stalling than Wailord, since it can live longer and has a better recovery move in Recover.

[SET]
name: Pressure Stall
move 1: Substitute
move 2: Aqua Ring
move 3: Protect
move 4: Block
item: Leftovers
ability: Pressure
nature: Calm
evs: 252 Def / 4 SpA / 252 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

Wailord should attempt to trap a passive foe such as Clefairy with Block and then utilize its moves and ability to keep itself healthy, block status conditions, and attempt to PP stall the foe. However, this set is very difficult to pull off and isn't worth the trouble, as Wailord's subpar defenses can easily cause it to lose too much health to set up Substitute or Aqua Ring safely. Defensively, Pyukumuku is a better option because it takes hits much better than Wailord and needs less support to function on stall, since it runs Toxic and Recover to whittle down opposing Pokemon. Furthermore, Wailord cannot function outside of stall and just wastes a teamslot on non-stall teams, where other Water-types in the tier, like Jellicent and Floatzel, are able to perform much better than Wailord.

[SET COMMENTS]
This Wailord set comes in on resisted attacks and proceeds to set up (sets up block first)Substitute and Aqua Ring so it is able to recover the health lost from Substitute, from Leftovers and Aqua Ring and spam Substitute in order to diminish the PP of the opposing pokemon. However, Wailord requires a lot of support that just isn't worth it. (I mean support isnt really the problem with Wailord, moreso the fact that this can be difficult to pull off)Defensively, Pyukumuku is a better option because it takes hits so much better than Wailord and needs less support to function on stall, since it runs Toxic (I assumed u were talking about PP stall pyukumuku)and Recover to whittle down opposing pokemon. Furthermore, Wailord cannot function outside of stall and just takes up a teamslot on non-stall teams, where other Water-types in the tier, like Jellicent and Floatzel, are able to perform much better and can beat common pokemon in the meta.(no need to say 'can beat common mons in the meta', remove)

again this whole thing is written super weird and confusingly, nothing is straightforward

This Wailord set comes in on resisted attacks and proceeds to set up Block, followed by Substitute and then Aqua Ring so it is able to recover the health lost from Substitute and spam Substitute in order to diminish the PP of the opposing pokemon.
