Hello everyone! I've been in the competitive scene for quite awhile, and a decently long smogon member, but I've never gotten around to making an RMT. So I decided that since the majority already does OU teams, I'd post a UU team, even though UU is a bit janky currently. Last generation I never really could get myself into UU that much, but now that some previously powerful pokemon have moved down to UU with the power creep, there are things I understand how to use better in this tier now. Keep in mind that I am still fairly new to this tier solely, and will be abundantly open for advice.
Quick Glance:
Getting to Know the Team
Latias @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Spd / 4 SAtk
Timid Nature
- Calm Mind
- Roost
- Dragon Pulse
- Hidden Power [Fire]
This may not be the ideal way to start off my RMT, but this Latias needs help. It's current purpose is to throw off other leads, forcing a switch/u-turn and setting up, putting a solid dent in their first few pokemon, catching them off guard. Unfortunately, Latias is the Pokemon on this team that drags a bit behind in workload, and ideas are welcomed greatly. Her main role is more of a fast special tank. Considering Nidoking, but not sure of his bulk.
Exploud @ Choice Specs
Ability: Scrappy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SAtk / 4 Def
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Boomburst
- Fire Blast
- Ice Beam
- Focus Blast
OH MY GOODNESS if it wasn't established already, this thing is a monster. You almost don't need any moves other than Boomburst, but when it comes to things like Chansey and Jirachi, the coverage comes in hand. Plus, like many of it's normal-type kin, it has decent HP to take a hit, allowing it to smack the opponent back hard, be it ghost or not. Max Sp. Atk+Modest for maximum damage of course, and 0 Atk. to take less damage from Pokemon that rely on Foul Play to deal decent damage, such as Umbreon.
Sceptile @ Life Orb
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Substitute
- Giga Drain
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power [Rock]
Ah, Sceptile. My favorite Pokemon (Mega Evo please?), and unfortunately, it has the case of a bad special movepool, but higher Sp. Attack, and the nerf to Hidden Power didn't help. I never really knew how to use this thing before, but this set has proven it's worth. Substitute + Life Orb to put it into Overgrow range, making Giga Drain hit/heal substantially more. Sadly, Life orb takes effect after giga drain heals, so item suggestions are open for this Forest Pokemon. Noticing a bit more, Infiltrator Crobat has it's way with Sceptile, so his synergy with Metagross proves very useful here.
Metagross @ Assault Vest
Ability: Clear Body
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Meteor Mash
- Bullet Punch
- Earthquake
- Zen Headbutt
Welcome to UU, Metagross, you must be new here. Well, you and Jirachi better get comfortable, because with all those newfangled dark and ghost types around, you'll be better off here. Just like he was in OU since Gen 3, Metagross still hits like a train, and not only his weaknesses got new toys. With Assault Vest, he does what many people do with Conkeldurr in OU - take a hit and hit back harder. With only slightly below average speed for UU, he can throw out Meteor Mashes and only get stronger. Even with Steel's nerf, Metagross still provides excellent switching in capability for many of the frailer members on this team.
(Y'know, I never realized Sharpedo doesn't have a tail until this gen. Wow. I guess it makes sense.)
Sharpedo @ Life Orb
Ability: Speed Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4 Def
Adamant Nature
- Protect
- Waterfall
- Crunch
- Earthquake
Sharpedo: the Blaziken of UU. Well, not quite. Without any boosting moves, this thing pales in comparison to Blaziken, but that doesn't mean this thing won't sweep your team. As a late game sweeper, this thing does exactly what it needs to do. Protect once, then hit everything that you can OHKO. Besides bulky things, the only thing that Sharpedo fears is Priority and a lucky Yanmega. Sharpedo and Yanmega will speed-tie every turn if they come out on the same turn, but luckily, generally Yanmega will be switched in on Sharpedo more than vice versa, so there's not much to worry about there.
Banette @ Banettite
Ability: Insomnia/Prankster
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 24 Def / 252 SDef / 4 Atk / 228 HP
Careful Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- Destiny Bond
- Shadow Sneak
- Taunt
Yes, this thing is kinda mediocre. Yes, this thing is probably the worst mega. No, this thing is not that bad and is very annoying. Mega Banette gains a humongous attack boost, and also gets prankster, but...Prankster doesn't activate the turn of Mega Evolving. Because of this major drawback, I tend to bring out this thing earlier rather than later just to mega evolve, and then switch out and save for later. Banette is obviously here to cripple and reduce, in somewhat of a Dusclops-ish way, but with less bulk. The reason that Banette has earned the much coveted Mega slot on my team, however, is that it can choose a certain pokemon that stands in my way of winning, and take it out specifically, much like how mega gengar was banned for perish song. It prevents a possible 6-0, yes, but no one should be going into a battle being solely determined for a 6-0. This Pokemon cripples and selectively takes down in an eye-for-eye manner, and does its job.
Conclusion:
Thank you for bearing through my first RMT! I do appreciate helpful feedback (especially with Latias), but when commenting, realize that even thought this is my first RMT, I have been in the competitive scene for quite some time, so I have a very general knowledge of the topic. Thanks and goodbye!
Importable: (no idea how to do openable spoiler tag)
