Hello Smogon,
I am back with a new team to rate.Hopefully not as pathetic as the previous one. After my previous team failed on every singe ground I decided to start with scratch and make a better one this time. This team took me from 1400 to 1600 on PS.But as you rake up points you encounter more experienced users on PS and I tend to use PS a lot to try out my teams before I finally use them on my DS.So lets get started.
The first member of my team is the most generic dragon of the OU tier.Yep,Its Dragonite.Honestly I didn't really like Dragonite until I used it for the first time and seemed to work out great for me.So I decided to use him as my set up sweeper.Lets get into the other details
Dragonite (M) @ Lum Berry
Trait: Multiscale
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Outrage
- Fire Punch
- ExtremeSpeed
So this is my favourite Dragonite set of all.Dragon Dance.Due to his god given ability,Dragonite gets a guaranteed Dragon Dance in every game if you don't let the rocks get into him.Lum Berry allows me to get a free set up turn on Pokemon who think they can status my Dragonite and stop my sweep.I still have the same dilemma as in my previous RMT.Earthquake or Fire Punch.Earthquake allows me to hit that Toxicroak and annoying Heatran but Fire Punch lets me get an OHKO on the omnipresent Ferrothorn and Scizor's after one Dragon Dance.ExtremeSpeed is a powerful priority move which is good for picking out weakened threats and break sashes.Especially for that Focus Sash Alakazam.Overall Dragonite is a pretty solid member of my team.Moving on to my next Pokemon
Terrakion @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge
- X-Scissor
- Rock Slide
I needed a strong Scarfer who could outspeed and KO threats when they are at +1 speed and this guy immediately came to my mind.Yep.Its Terrakion. Arguably the best Scarfer in the current metagame he can outspeed and destroy the strongest set up sweepers in the metagame at +1 speed like Dragonite,Gyarados, etc due to his very high speed stat and a beastly attack stat which allows him to dish out very powerful hits.Close Combat and Stone Edge are STABS to deal heavy damage.Rock Slide is for Volcarona's who I don't want to miss a stone edge on.X-Scissor owns unsuspecting Alakazam. He has saved my hide in matches many times. He once actually sweeped a whole team with no boosts whatsoever. All 6 pokemon. So yeah,Terrakion is the pokemon I will be most reluctant to change.Yep,time for my next Pokemon to make his appearance.
Starmie @ Life Orb
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Ice Beam
- Rapid Spin
- Surf
- Thunderbolt
Now since I had Dragonite,I needed to make sure the Rocks are off the field to actually be able to use him, since without Multi-Scale and no boosts is equivalent to a Magikarp in the OU tier.So after not much thinking I chose Starmie. This guy has insane amounts of speed. Also has a suprise factor to it in the form of Life Orb as Gengar gets destroyed by a Life Orb boosted Surf from Starmie and Jellicent also is 2HKOed by Thunderbolt. Also a great sweeper under the rain,Starmie can spin effectively too due to is exremely high base speed of 115.Outspeeds quite a chunk of the metagame.BoltBeam as you guys know gives extremely good coverage and is unresisted 90% of the time.Surf is a strong STAB move chosen in favour of Hydro Pump.I don't usually get hax,but when I do it is usually negative. So yeah I just used a meme to express how unlucky I am and Hydro Pump always misses for me.EV's are pretty self-explanatory.Again I am sorry for the small descriptions.Lets move on.
Heatran (M) @ Air Balloon
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Earth Power
- Flamethrower
- Stealth Rock
- Hidden Power [Ice]
Now after taking a look at my team,I realized that it was extremely weak to Scizor and would wreck my team after one Swords Dance. So I kept one of the most common and best Scizor checks and at the same time the most useful fire type in the metagame.Heatran.He outspeeds Scizor and Breloom to KO with Flamethrower which has been used against fire blast for the same reasons as Hydro Pump. With Air Baloon active I can OHKO Garchomp,Salamence and Dragonite provided Multi-Scale is broken with Hidden Power Ice.So Heatran serves as a Dragon and Technician check on my team.Earth Power is pretty self explanatory.Gives me good coverage and Stealth Rocks on Heatran is pretty good since it can force out numerous leads giving me a free turn to set up the rocks. He also works pretty well with the other members of my time which will be mentioned later and Dragonite.Moving on to the defensive part of my team we have
Ferrothorn (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SDef
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spd
- Spikes
- Leech Seed
- Gyro Ball
- Power Whip
Now since I had the offensive part of my team figured out.I moved on to the defensive part.I needed something to set up the additional hazards spikes which are extremely useful if your opponent is resistant to Stealth Rocks and wall my opponent effectively. After a lot of thinking and choosing between Foretress and Ferrothorn I decided in favour of Ferrothorn who can wall both types of attacks effectively while Foretress walls only physical hits.Ferrothorn is the most common wall in the OU metagame as we all know for a very good reason.I am able to get my 3 layers of spikes in 90% of the games thanks to this guys walling capabilities and helps me to sweep single handedly with Terrakion.Shares great synergy with Heatran due to Flash Fire and Dragonite since he can sponge off Dragon type hits in case I may need Heatran to take care of other threats.Gyro Ball destroys Espeon who would try to bounce off my Hazards.Power Whip is for annoying Gastrodon's in rain teams.Spikes is self explanatory and Leech Seed for recovery and also forcing switches.Time for the final member of my team.
Jellicent (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 36 Def / 220 SDef
Calm Nature
- Scald
- Shadow Ball
- Taunt
- Recover
After I took a final look at my team it was looking pretty solid. But It lacked a special wall and also I relied quite a bit on the Hazards damage and I couldn't let them get spinned off so easily and I knew just the guy who would spinblock and wall special attacks and have a great synergy with my team.Jellicent.Forming a FerroCent core with Ferrothorn which is defeatable only with proper prediction Jellicent is a fairly Important member of my team.Scald is to get a burn and weaken walls or reduce the damage done by physical attackers.Recover is a reliable move to get my lost HP back.Taunt is awesome on Jellicent. It allows me to prevent Ferrothorn's from setting up hazards thinking I would switch out as soon as I see Ferrothorn. Also gets super effective damage on Donphan and Starmie with Scald and Shadow Ball.Foretress doesn't like Special attacks either and the burn would just cripple him so he is probably the best spin blocker in the meta. Also allows me to check Alakazam and Gengar and counter Keldeo's without HP Electric which are pretty rare.Water absorb heals a good 25% too.So this is the final member of my team.Any suggestions are appreciated and will be tried 100%.Thank you for reading.I will proceed to enlist the some important stuff.
Note - I know my team has a glaring weakness to Fighting and Grass so patching that is my top priority.
Threats-
Toxicroak - Since my Starmie doesn't have psychic and the only ground move on my team is Heatran's earth power which doesn't kill it in one hit either and Heatran is outsped by max speed Toxicroaks and has a fighting weakness.
Jirachi - After Heatran falls,Jirachi has a field day with my team.Especially the SubCM Rachi.Suggestions on that extremely appreciated.
I will end my RMT here.Thank you again for reading.
