War is Hell and Such

Recently, I started this college year, and found myself with a glut of spare time, as well as a friend who also knew some things about competitive Pokemon, and thus decided to finally get pro-active in competitive DP. Thus, I built a team, and started hanging around Shoddy, when, one night, I challenged one of the people requesting battles on the servers: the mysteriously misspelled Kamelot. The battle began, and I was ready for just another battle.

My Team: Breloom, Lickilicky, Gengar, Steelix, Slowbro, Porygon-Z
Kamelot's Team: Porygon-Z, Registeel, Breloom, Weavile, Blissey, Dusknoir

Despite sharing two Pokemon, our teams were pretty different, and both of us were foiled by bad predictions(on my part), and mistakes in team-making(on his/hers).

Rules: Evasion Clause, Freeze Clause, OHKO Clause, Sleep Clause, Species Clause

(I've removed between battle comments, Kamelot's nicknames for his Pokemon, and between turn formalities like Stealth Rock, Leftovers, etc..)

kamelot sent out Porygonz (lvl 100 Porygonz).
phitothepi sent out Breloom (lvl 100 Breloom ?).
Porygonz used Ice Beam.
It's super effective!
Breloom lost 149% of its health.
phitothepi's Breloom fainted.

On turn one, I had already made a horrible misprediction: I thought all Porygon-Z ran a moveset similar to the Tri Attack/HP Fighting/Nasty Plot/Dark Pulse one I use. This cost me turn one, and also one of the usually most strong players on my team.

6-5 Kamelot
---
kamelot: yay lol
phitothepi switched in Lickilicky (lvl 100 Lickilicky ?).
phitothepi: I always forget PZ can have that
kamelot: lolz
phitothepi: Assumed you were gonna plot for some reason
Porygonz used Tri Attack.
Lickilicky lost 47% of its health.
Lickilicky used Body Slam.
Porygonz lost 45% of its health.

To recover, I sent in my trusted Lickilicky here, hoping to paralyze what I assumed to be his main special sweeper(though, before this turn, I wasn't sure if this was a Scarf version or a Nasty Plot one).
---
kamelot switched in Registeel (lvl 100 Registeel).
Lickilicky used Body Slam.
It's not very effective...
Registeel lost 12% of its health.

Not much to say: my opponent saw an opportunity, and took it.
---
Lickilicky used Protect.
Lickilicky protected itself!
Registeel used Curse.
Registeel's speed was lowered.
Registeel's attack was raised.
Registeel's defence was raised

I used protect, unsure of exactly what Kamelot was getting at here. I immediately got scared, though, when I saw him use Curse, since I really have very little in the way of fighting/fire/ground attacks on my team.
---
phitothepi switched in Gengar (lvl 100 Gengar ?).
Registeel used Curse.
Registeel's speed was lowered.
Registeel's attack was raised.
Registeel's defence was raised.

Not much to say here. I thought maybe this Registeel had in the wings Superpower or Hammerarm or something like that, so I switch to the most logical choice for me to take the hit.
---
Gengar used Hidden Power.
It's super effective!
Registeel lost 25% of its health.
Registeel used Iron Head.
A critical hit!
Gengar lost 174% of its health.
phitothepi's Gengar fainted.

Unfortunately, I overstimated how much HP Fighting would do, instead of taking the safer route, and assuming something like Iron Head or Gyro Ball and using Destiny Bond. In a panic, I saw that my only Pokemon with attacks strong against steel wouldn't last long enough(Porygon-Z) or were already dead(Breloom).

6-4 Kamelot
---
kamelot: lol
phitothepi: Oh shit
kamelot: try taking it down now
phitothepi switched in Steelix (lvl 100 Steelix ?).
phitothepi: This is a risk
phitothepi: What I'm doing
phitothepi: But it's my bet.
kamelot: ok
Registeel used Hammer Arm.
It's super effective!
Steelix lost 35% of its health.
Registeel's speed was lowered.
Steelix used Roar.
kamelot switched in Breloom (lvl 100 Breloom ?).
Breloom was badly poisoned!

With all other options down, I decided to go risky and try Pseudo-hazing this guy and saving him for later.
---
kamelot: lheh
kamelot: lets c how it will play out
Breloom used Spore.
Steelix fell asleep!
Steelix is fast asleep!
Breloom is hurt by poison!

I kept that last line, because it shows one minor mistake my opponent made with his Breloom(it didn't affect the entire match, but it could have.) I was predicting a Spore, obviously, but figured Steelix might as well take one for the team.
---
kamelot: and id think I gave it poison heal crap
Breloom used Drain Punch.
It's super effective!
Steelix lost 25% of its health.
Breloom absorbed health!
Breloom restored 17% of its health.
Steelix woke up!
Steelix used Roar.
kamelot switched in Porygonz (lvl 100 Porygonz).

I was really afraid of a Focus Punch, and really lucky here, also surprised at the Drain Punch appearance.
---
phitothepi: Ouch way too much
kamelot: lolz
BoAJewel has entered the room.
Porygonz used Thunderbolt.
It doesn't affect Steelix...
Steelix used Gyro Ball.
Porygonz lost 59% of its health.
kamelot's Porygonz fainted.

I guess Kamelot misentered here, since he was probably trying to do an Ice Beam and go on that puny Steelix defense. This may or may not have cost him the match, but at least it got me my first KO.

5-4 Kamelot
---
kamelot: woops
kamelot: lol
kamelot switched in Breloom (lvl 100 Breloom ?).
Breloom used Drain Punch.
It's super effective!
Steelix lost 27% of its health.
Breloom absorbed health!
Breloom restored 18% of its health.
Steelix used Stealth Rock.
Pointed stones float in the air around your foe's team!

They're doing their thangs there, though I'm wondering why he didn't Spore at this point.
---
phitothepi: Meant Ice Beam there?
BoAJewel: breloom got no posion heal?
Breloom used Drain Punch.
It's super effective!
Steelix lost 26% of its health.
phitothepi's Steelix fainted.
Breloom absorbed health!
Breloom restored 8% of its health.

Not much to say. I was a bit scared at this point, but I really didn't know his team, especially the last three members, which were going to slaught me, I was sure.

5-3 Kamelot
---
kamelot: i no
kamelot: my bad
kamelot: lol
phitothepi switched in Porygonz (lvl 100 Porygonz).
BoAJewel has left the room.
kamelot switched in Registeel (lvl 100 Registeel).
Porygonz used Tri Attack.
It's not very effective...
Registeel lost 18% of its health.

I really didn't know what was going to happen here - I thought since he probably knew my Porygon-Z didn't have Ice Beam that he would stay in with Breloom, meaning I'd have to kill quickly with Tri-Attack. On the other hand, I should've known he'd know I'd have Tri-Attack, and attempt to soften the Blow, since Porygon-Z was certainly faster than his Breloom.
---
Porygonz used Hidden Power.
It's super effective!
A critical hit!
Registeel lost 55% of its health.
kamelot's Registeel fainted.

This was luck at its finest softening my bad prediction last round.

4-3 Kamelot
---
kamelot: ......
kamelot switched in Weavile (lvl 100 Weavile ?).
phitothepi switched in Lickilicky (lvl 100 Lickilicky ?).
Weavile used Brick Break.
It's super effective!
Lickilicky lost 51% of its health.
Weavile lost 10% of its health.

I note the Life Orb damage because I didn't do so during the battle, thus leaving many mysteries for me. Once again, I assume my opponent knows my team and thus do a "sneaky" switch assuming Night Slash so that I may Explode on this mutha.
---
Weavile used Brick Break.
It's super effective!
Lickilicky lost 51% of its health.
phitothepi's Lickilicky fainted.

Not much to say, asides from that I thought this meant match.
4-2 Kamelot
---
phitothepi switched in Porygonz (lvl 100 Porygonz).
phitothepi switched in Slowbro (lvl 100 Slowbro ?).
Weavile used Brick Break.
It's not very effective...
Slowbro lost 10% of its health.

I switch in Porygon-Z, seeing where he's going, and remembering that he doesn't know I have Slowbro, thus taking his hit, and preparing a Thunder Wave.
---
kamelot switched in Breloom (lvl 100 Breloom ?).
Slowbro used Thunder Wave.
But it failed!

This is some uber-prediction on Kamelot's part, and why I assumed he was running Choice Weavile(why else would he switch out on my Slowbro?) Assuming Night Slash, and trying to paralyze Weavile so as to set up a Porygon-Z sweep, I used Thunder Wave.
---
phitothepi: Goddamn, that was choice, I'm guessing.
kamelot: nope
Breloom used Seed Bomb.
It's super effective!
Slowbro lost 42% of its health.
Slowbro used Ice Beam.
It's super effective!
Breloom lost 83% of its health.
kamelot's Breloom fainted.

Since Slowbro was at full health, I decided to try my luck at fainting this guy, since I knew my only other options were useless. Thankfully, it worked out here.

3-2 Kamelot
---
kamelot switched in Blissey (lvl 100 Blissey ?).
Blissey used Seismic Toss.
Slowbro lost 26% of its health.
Slowbro used Thunder Wave.
Blissey is paralysed! It may be unable to move!

I was lazy, forgot Blissey had Natural Cure, though the end result of this paralysis did force Kamelot to switch the bugger out in frustration.
---
Slowbro used Slack Off.
Slowbro restored 50% of its health.
Blissey used Seismic Toss.
Slowbro lost 26% of its health.

I decided, for crazy reasons, I can win this stallwar.
---
kamelot: o come on
kamelot switched in Dusknoir (lvl 100 Dusknoir ?).
Slowbro used Slack Off.
Slowbro restored 50% of its health.

I heal up my Slowbro, and my opponent slips up a bit. Now I know his entire lineup well enough, and I predict his attack quite handily.
---
phitothepi switched in Porygonz (lvl 100 Porygonz).
Dusknoir used Shadow Sneak.
It doesn't affect Porygonz...

I'm seeing a set-up opportunity...
---
kamelot: u wana call this a draq?
kamelot: draw
Porygonz used Nasty Plot.
Porygonz's special attack was sharply raised.
Dusknoir used Will-o-wisp.
Porygonz was burned!

This gives the rest of the battle a time limit, but gives the PZ all the setup he needs to sweep.
---
kamelot switched in Weavile (lvl 100 Weavile ?).
Porygonz used Dark Pulse.
It's not very effective...
Weavile lost 40% of its health.
kamelot's Weavile fainted.

When I said earlier the turn his Porygon-Z used Thunderbolt may have won me the match, this is what I mean. The rocks I got to set up then allow me here to kill off the most imposing threat left on his team, and bring it to a tie against a Pokemon he can't guard against.

2-2
---
kamelot switched in Blissey (lvl 100 Blissey ?).
phitothepi: Eh, you'll win in a few turns
kamelot: idk about that
Porygonz used Tri Attack.
Blissey lost 45% of its health.
Blissey used Ice Beam.
Porygonz lost 25% of its health.

I'm still pretty sure the burn is gonna kill Porygon-Z before he has swept everything, but the match is looking for the first time to be swinging my way. As I note next turn, the burn does keep the little cyber-duck from the more debilitating paralysis that Blissey could give, which shows to me the uselessness of spreading multiple statuses.
---
phitothepi: THough thanks for protecting Z from paralysis
kamelot: loz
Porygonz used Dark Pulse.
Blissey lost 18% of its health.
Blissey flinched!

I wasn't sure if he was going to switch in Dusknoir in order to block a Tri-Attack and get Porygon-Z down due to burn, so I used Dark Pulse to be safe. Sadly, that didn't do much, and I was lucky for a flinch.
---
Porygonz used Tri Attack.
Blissey lost 48% of its health.
kamelot's Blissey fainted.

Taking the previous turn as an open invitation to spam Tri-Attack, I bring down Blissey, once again showing how egg whores really don't protect you from nastily plotting virus-killing adaptable ducks.

2-1 Me
---
kamelot switched in Dusknoir (lvl 100 Dusknoir ?).
Porygonz used Dark Pulse.
It's super effective!
Dusknoir lost 74% of its health.
Dusknoir used Pain Split.

I would like to point out that if he hadn't accidentally restored some of my HP with Pain Split, the burn would've destroyed Porygon-Z, and he'd have easily slayed Slowbro in a turn or two. Luckily, I ended this turn at 1%, and got to win the battle next turn.
---
kamelot: u won
Porygonz used Dark Pulse.
It's super effective!
A critical hit!
Dusknoir lost 152% of its health.
kamelot's Dusknoir fainted.
phitothepi wins!
phitothepi: Oh man
phitothepi: That was amazing
kamelot: i told u I would lose
phitothepi: GG
kamelot has left the room.
phitothepi: Really GG
phitothepi: Best one I've had all day

End Result 2-0 Me

Props:
To Porygon-Z for being a missile of pure destruction
To Steelix for taking STAB Drain Punches and boosted Hammer Arms like a champ, allowing me to set up Rocks.
To Slowbro, holding his own against Blissey
To Kamelot, for putting up some interesting challenges and generally fighting pretty well.

Not props at all:
To Breloom, and me assuming that all Porygon-Z use the set I use(same with his Breloom, too)
To the luck I needed to bring down Porygon-Z and Registeel.
To thinking Weavile was choice banded
To Gengar not doing shit.

Also, thanks to Aeolus for letting me post this fine story.

first post nice story 8.5/10
