We Could Make Beautiful Music Together

53.png
Ahem, ladies and gentlemen (ok, probably not so many ladies) the legendary Smokingpaper is making a comeback in Pokémon. Now you might know him from hits like: "Getting 0-6'd all night long", "Praying for a crit" or "Politoed was a Bullfrog" but he's got a new tune to sing.

My return to Pokemon was sparked when I discovered that everyone's favorite whore Ditto finally had it's dreamworld ability released, turning it into a competitive whore, which are the best kind. So this team started as an idea to make a team with Ditto. However during a long and painstaking development phase and before the actual team even saw any action on Pokémon Showdown Ditto was ditched for something more tangible. I discovered I really wanted my Pokes to have their own songs and not just be some cover artist. But regardless I wanted to give this strange new meta a try.

I'm looking for feedback on my current team. Before recently I hadn't played BW in over two years, and DPP only sporadically before that. In other words all them fancy new forms and such have taken some getting used to. The team is crawling upwards slowly, sitting around 1800 in the OU ladder right now. Like most of the teams I've ever run it's a weatherless bulky offense team. Without further adieu I'm proud to present the stars of my show.

462Magnezone.png

AC/DC (Magnezone) @ Leftovers
Trait: Magnet Pull
EVs: 36 HP / 252 SAtk / 220 Spd
Timid Nature
- Substitute
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Charge Beam

Ah Magnezone, the dragons love him, the steel types hate him. He's here to do what he does best: scare the crap out of Ferrothorn and friends. Of all the band members Zone is the only one who has never changed his style. Well except that time Jirachi tricked him into wearing a choice scarf, which he pulled of effortlessly if I might say so. When you rock this hard you can wear anything.

Aside from getting fashion advice from Jirachi 'the Zone' also cameos as a powerful electric type and backup steel type. For some reason he is scared of tiny moles but thankfully those are pretty rare. He sometimes wishes he wasn't walled by every ground type and the Lati's that typically show up after his performance is over but he has other band members who deal with those annoying groupies.

Real talk: Magnezone swiftly deals with Skarmory, Scizor and Forretress while taking his time with Ferrothorn, often ending up with +6 and a sub. He also handles most Jirachi. Garchomp and especially Latias love having steels out of the way. Jirachi and Rotom also really appreciate the lack of Ferrothorn, and my Jirachi also happens to hate Skarmory with a passion. Outside of his steel destroying antics he's not exactly my most amazing poke but he's pretty irreplaceable for the team

Metallica (Jirachi) @ Leftovers
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 224 SDef / 252 HP / 32 Spd
Careful Nature
- Iron Head
- Body Slam
- Wish
- Protect

Little J is here to show every single Psychic type that this is his show. Latio/as, Alakazam, Reuniclus and (most) Celebi all hate when this 'guy' shows up. He might not look the part but he's one tough son of a gun.

Special defensive Jirachi is without a doubt the best special wall I've ever used. Body slam is a godsend when most of the things switching into you are speedy ground types. Unless your STAB hits him super effectively he's not going down on the special side anytime soon. He's also one of my checks vs Tyranitar and my main defense against Gengar. His Wish support is also greatly accepted by the rest of the band.

I've run Stealth Rock on him in the past but seeing how crucial he is most of the time I really prefer Protect over it.

Peter Tosh (Slowbro) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Regenerator
EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP / 4 SAtk
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Psychic
- Slack Off

By far the most easy going member of the band. Slowbro might be, well, slow but tends to stick around for ages. It takes on Terrakion, Dragonite, (most) Salamence, Garchomp, Conceldurr, Gyarados, Mamoswine and the list goes on and on. Slowbro had a rebellious time where he used Thunder Wave over Ice Beam but eventually discovered that reliably slaying dragons was more important than slowing down others because of his insecurities about his own speed level. Plus burning things with boiling water is more fun anyway.
Between Little J and himself they have a pretty large part of the cast covered.

Shiny_Garchomp.jpg

Twisted Sister (Garchomp) (F) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Jolly Nature
- Outrage
- Earthquake
- Dual Chop
- Stealth Rock

Here's where things get a little less mainstream. I know what you're thinking: Garchomp wearing a scarf and stealthily placing rocks all over the place, how is that rock & roll. Well like I said about Zone, if you have rough skin, you can wear or do pretty much anything. But admittedly Big Chomp didn't always carry those tiny rocks, there was a time he used to slam peeps with huge edgy stones. Specifically fiery insects on a rampage. However since Little J found himself dying to stuff he really wanted to beat Garry took his responsibility and carried the load for him. Because every band has to have someone spreading pebbles all over the place right? Right!

Garchomp fills the role of Stealth Rock user, revenge killer, electric immunity and late game sweeper for the team. He's also one of the few ways to take out Calm Mind Jirachi. I'm considering switching Dual Chop with Stone Edge because Volcarona can be a real problem to the team if it manages to avoid Stealth Rock damage.

RotomWashFormXousFINAL.png

Radiohead (Rotom-Wash) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 232 HP / 56 SAtk / 220 Spd
Modest Nature
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Toxic
- Trick

I admit, it's not a radio. But washing machine head just doesn't roll of the tongue. Probably the weirdest band member Wash has seen some serious makeovers in his moveset and item choice to help the band deal with some of their biggest rivals: Celebi and Gastrodon. Moves that he has used include Thunderbolt, Thunder Wave, Hidden Power Grass, Hidden Power Ice and Pain Split. Needing the bulk he has never changed his EVs and typically ditches his trendy scarf ASAP. But since aforementioned rivals tend to switch in at the first sign of his presence it's all good.

Painful as it is to admit Gastrodon tends to be this band biggest pain in the backside. He walls Rotom, Slowbro, Jirachi and Magnezone while killing Garchomp. I didn't see any band member that I wanted to replace so I had to do some creative things to not auto lose to him. Poisoning him or giving him a scarf works wonders in that regards. Choiced Rotom seems to have become pretty rare nowadays which helps a lot. It's my nr 1 lead and typically turn two Celebi or Gastrodon are wearing a scarf, Rotom has his precious leftovers and things are looking better already.

Rotom functions as my main switch in to almost anything that is trying to scare Jirachi. Heatran, the ground/flying brothers, Mamoswine and sometimes Garchomp. I've never felt the urge to give him WoW because all the stuff that switches into him I'd either rather poison or body slam with Jirachi. Pain Split would be nice to have but I don't have the space for it anymore, same goes for HP Ice. HP Grass was a desperate attempt to deal with Gastrodon which didn't help me with Celebi at all, so I'm more pleased with my current way of crippling them.

Latias_01.gif

Roxette (Latias) (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 Spd / 4 SAtk / 252 HP
Timid Nature
- Calm Mind
- Dragon Pulse
- Substitute
- Recover

The real star of the show. When I look at the opposing team my first thought is: what needs to die so I can sweep with Latias. Well actually my first thought is often: Lol, wow, gay, f*ck or something similar, but this comes after that. This typically includes stuff like Scizor, Tyranitar, Ferrothorn, Skarmory, Jirachi, Metagross, Forretress and Mamoswine. Now most of these aren't even that bad. I have set up on Ferrothorn (no Gyro Ball) and paralyzed SDef Tyranitar without Crunch. And between Sub and the threat of Magnezone CB Scizor tends to not be as annoying as he could be.

The list of things that Latias sets up on is remarkably large. Breloom, Starmie, my little pony, Landorus, Politoed, Rotom-W, Celebi, Gastrodon (especially the choice scarf variety), Reuniclus, Gengar with some luck, Alakazam, Ninetales and I could go on for a while.

Aside from being my main sweeper Latias also happens to have some great resists that the band loves. It's my main Breloom check once something is asleep for instance.

It used to have Psyshock over Substitute but this is just so much better.

My thoughts on the band:

By far the best team I've build so far (which admittedly doesn't say much). However it does lack a few things, most importantly a PHazer and priority. It seems to have serious issues against baton pass teams of any kind, be it all out baton pass or smash-pass. It lacks a spinner but makes up for that by handling entry hazards rather well, especially Stealth Rock.

Hey there,

Nice team. At first glance, this team is rather solidly built. The team's synergy is quite nice, being able to take hits from most threats in the metagame. One of the biggest threats to the team, as you mentioned, is Volcarona. Getting right into it, I think you should put Stealth Rock back onto Jirachi over Protect. With this change, you'll have to play Jirachi a lot more passively, using Wish earlier than you'd usually. The change allows to Garchomp to do its revenge-killing thing without it needing to be choice locked into Stealth Rock leaving it to be setup fodder for anything that is in against it. With this said, you could put Stone Edge on Garchomp in the fourth moveslot to revenge-kill Volcarona, barring it being higher than +2. This is probably the only thing that you'd be using Stone Edge for. In other scenarios, you'd be using the other three moves. Anyways, this team is very solid and needed very little change (if you choose to use them, that is). Hope these changes helped, good luck.

On a side note, you could run a Specially Defensive Heatran > Jirachi if you feel that Volcarona is that big of an issue. This could affect your team being able to handle the things that Jirachi normally would. With a team like this, if you change one Pokemon, the team's balance can go out of wack, so this is just something to consider.

Jirachi
Protect --> Stealth Rock

Garchomp
Stealth Rock --> Stone Edge

Much obliged kind sir. In the latest build Garchomp was replaced with Sdef Hippowdon (BB King). Who doesn't have stone edge/rock slide either btw so I'm possibly even weaker against Volcanobug. Surprisingly I haven't been auto-losing to it though. And I can't state enough how awesome Latias and Slowbro are. If your STAB isn't super effective and you're psysical, Slowbro probably owns you. And unlike that fat hippo he doesn't have to heal much so he can just hit stuff. I think I have yet to see Slowbro be OHKO by anything psychical at all I think. And 90% of my matches are just kill/weaken Latias counters and sweep.

But after playing with Hippo a whole lot I'm noticing I don't really like it. It takes way too much damage from everything causing it to have to slack of constantly. In other words I think I'm going back to Garchomp.

I'll try switching stealth rock back to Jirachi again but since he's my main 'I'm not sure what to do mon' I could see it causing problems. My main other poke that I could see changing is Rotom-w but I'm not sure what to replace it with. Something that say's F U Politoed, is immune to ground and ideally set's up Stealth Rock... I might be asking too much lol.

Anyway again thanks for the response, I'm pretty happy with the team.
