Hi all! Miss Winnie here and this is my first RMT! When I first started playing the X/Y meta-game 3 months ago, I tried to create a somewhat balanced offense team that can tank hits and dish them back even harder. Unfortunately, I could only get to around 1800 as my teams could not keep up with the prevailing hyper offensive play style that is emerging early on here in Gen 6. I decided, if you cant beat em, join em! I based my team around one of the most powerful threats in Pokemon history to date in my opinion, Mega Mawile! So without further a due, with a current W/L ratio is at 41/13 and rating at 2457, here is my most successful team I have created in gen 6 so far!
Keldeo-Resolute @ Expert Belt
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Timid Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Secret Sword
- Icy Wind
- Hidden Power [Grass]
Keldeo was my first pick for this team as all my teams I had previously made kept getting destroyed by Greninja. Keldeo is my opinion is one of the best checks to Greninja as it can easily handle all 4 moves that a normal life orb Greninja carries (Hydro Pump/Ice Beams/Dark Pulse/U-Turn) and then proceed to hit it with a secret sword that will either OHKO it, or will do over 75% to it. Mamoswine is also a prevalent threat to my team with its fantastic type coverage and Keldeo also serves as my main Mamoswine check as it can take an EQ and procede to OHKO it with one of its stab moves. Another role Keldeo fills is bluffing being my scarfer by carrying an expert belt. For instance, lets say I kill an opposing Landorus-T with hydro pump or icy wind, and my opponent brings in a Blissey or Chansey, Secret Sword will OHKO and my opponent will just feel plain stupid. Hydro Pump and Secret Sword are explanatory as they are my obligatory stab moves and provide me with excellent coverage. Icy Wind is a fantastic coverage move and is used to take out those pesky Dragons who have an X4 ice weakness, as well as lowing the opposing pokemons speed by one stage. Hidden power is the only move that ui second guess because I started using it to take care of gastrodon and quagsire, but those 2 pokes aren't really that prevalent in Gen 6 so I am debating replacing it with hidden power bug to take care of Celebi which can cause somewhat of a problem. Keldeos resistance to stealth rock also makes it a prime choice for me as the reduced damage it takes can ensure its survivability and lets me make multiple switch ins to it before I end up paying the price.
Jirachi @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Jolly Nature
- Fire Punch
- Iron Head
- U-turn
- Zen Headbutt/Ice Punch
Jirachi fills an excellent role on this team by being my scarfer. Basically, Jirachi can take out almost any mon with these moves either by flinching them to death or just flat out out speeding the opponent and hitting for SE damage. This Jirachi also somewhat takes care of 2 of my biggest weaknesses, Mega Lucario & Mega Venusaur. My strategy when dealing with Mega Lucario is to sac the mon i need the last that battle and then proceed to fire punch it to death or U turn if i suspect a switch so i can gain momentum. Venusaur on the other hand is a lot bigger of a problem. How I deal with that is by taking out anything that resists iron head or Zen headbutt, then try and flinch it to death. I originally had ice punch on this set but I didn't have a need for it and taking out mega venusaur was a larger priority of mine. Another role Jirachi fills is taking care of all fairy Pokemon, my team is somewhat fairy weak so this is a large role that Jirachi fills as well. Jirachis solid bulk without investment and stealth rock resistance gives it the same appeal as keldeo to me as I can switch out and come in multiple times without worry. The last role Jirachi fills is scaring opponents into switching and using U-Turn to gain momentum and switch into whatever I have available to deal with the mon my opponent switched in.
Thundurus (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Volt Switch
- Focus Blast
- Thunder Wave
- Hidden Power [Ice]
Thundurus is my designated lead unless the opponent has a Mamoswine in which case ill lead with Keldeo. To me, Thundurus is the perfect lead because if my opponenent leads with a threat then i can t-wave right off the bat and cripple something to start the game, or I can volt switch and gain immediate momentum on my opponent. I had tbolt over focus blast originally but i found that ttar could pretty much wall and pursuit trap me so I opted for focus blast instead as it can OHKO most variants and focus blast also hits ferrothorn as well. Its base 115 speed is fantastic as I can also out speed almost every other lead out there and I also out speed opposing pranksters and can t-wave them. Another Role Thundurus fits is being my only ground & fighting immunity. While I know it is not the bulkiest thing I can use for that, it's role on my team is too important to opt for another mon. For my item, im using life orb simply for the extra power i get by equiping it but i'm debating replacing it with leftovers because it would ensure thundys survival if rocks are up due to that nasty weakness to them.
Tyranitar @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 64 Atk / 252 HP / 192 SDef
Sassy Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Stone Edge
- Crunch
- Fire Blast
Tyranitar sets up Stealth Rock, which is a valuable asset to the team. With Defog’s popularity rising and new Rapid Spinners such as Avalugg and old stuff like Excadrill still running around, it is more important than ever to have a Stealth Rock user bulky enough to set it up multiple times a match. Because of the prevalence of metagame-defining threats such as Talonflame, Charizard and Volcarona, the damage Stealth Rock brings to the table is vital. Another role Ttar brings to the table is wiping out other weather with my own. Rain teams are starting to become somewhat popular due to swift swim being legal again, and even with the weather nerf, a swift swim kingdra with a specs rain boosted hydro pump is still pretty damn scary. Sand is also beneficial for the residual damage it can do & 6% every turn can wear down a foe. A 3rd role Tyranitar serves is being my bulky special wall. 252 EVS into hp is standard for Ttar and I have 192 EVS put into SDef to help me sponge special hits even further with the +1 SDef boost given from sandstorm. I could put my attack EV's into SDef but I enjoy that extra attacking power. Fire Blast is also a fairly common move Ttar carries but I havent seen it used much this gen... I can easily take care of stuff like Scizor, ferro & genesect as well as catch other steel types on a switch and hit them fairly hard.
Genesect @ Expert Belt
Ability: Download
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Modest Nature
- Rock Polish
- Flamethrower
- Ice Beam
- Energy Ball
My 2nd choice bluffer. Genesect is even better at bluffing choice scarf than Keldeo in my opinion due to the even GREATER coverage provided by Genesects movepool. Not to mention everybody scarfs these things and pretty much just U-Turn the whole game instead of taking advantage of its vast movepool. Ill even lead with this thing if i see i can hit everything on the other team super effectively and If i get a SAtk boost then its gg once i get a rock polish up. One thing I have been playing around with is iron head in place for rock polish because while rock polish is the attraction of this set, I often dont have time to set one up. Iron head will help me deal with my arch rival mega venusaur easier aswell as provide another effective fairy counter to go alongside with Jirachi. The biggest role that this genesect fills is using energy ball to take care of rotom wash, who poses a big problem for my team. It can switch in on any move that any other of my Pokemon use and then WOW or hit for super effective damage and it can also come in and sponge Thundurus' t-wave. Physically defensive rotoms stand no chance as i get the SAtk boost and procede to destroy them. I also am running modest over timid because I want that extra power from downloading SAtk boosts if I can safely get a rock polish up.
Mawile @ Mawilite
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 248 HP / 8 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Sucker Punch
- Play Rough
- Focus Punch
- Substitute
Here he is, the star of the show, Mega Mawile! This thing is RIDICULOUS. I mean absolutely insane. With an attack stat hitting 678, even things that resist its moves take a hell of a lot of damage. I wanted to use intimidate on regular Mawile first as it allows me to come in on Conkeldurrs and stuff like that and then proced to mega evolve and sub on the likely switch. Behind a sub at least one pokemon will die no matter what (barring Mega Venusaur) to either a focus punch or play rough. Then if you didnt OHKO the opposing mon, you can simply clean up with sucker punch. Behind a sub you almost always will use focus punch ahead of play rough because it does more than play rough even after Stab is factored in. Ive played around with a swords dance set that uses fire fang instead of focus punch but Im not as fond of that set as it leaves me out in the open people can play around sucker punch and set up due to Mawiles measly base 50 speed. The EV's are simple enough as I maxed out attack with an adamant nature just to do massive damage and I have 248 EV's in HP for increased all around bulk & 248 gives me an odd number which means more stealth rock switch ins!
Well there the team is! I covered threats in some of the pokemon summary's but ill go over a few more because I know a lot of people just want to copy the team. Mega Venusaur is by far the mon I have the biggest problem with as it can sponge pretty much every single thing i throw at it and recover with synthesis. Physical Mega Lucario gives me the 2nd most problems as I have nothing to take its close combats and if Jirachi dies then its gg for me. The only other thing thats really given me that much trouble is charizard X. Ive been swept before by one that got a DD up. My best bet is to try and T-wave it with thundy and then wear it down. And thats really it for the threat list, I dont have problems with anything else really in the metagame. Basically the whole thing I am looking for here is someone to help me with my Mega Venusaur problem because its the only thing that completely walls me!
