TEAM AETHER
aether:
the upper regions of space; the clear sky; the heavens.
the medium supposed by the ancients to fill the upper regions of space.
Physics. a hypothetical substance supposed to occupy all space, postulated to account for the propagation of electromagnetic radiation through space.
Hello, everyone! My name is Moon, and this is my first RMT ever, so sorry if it's not all that great. Today I'll be presenting a team that I made for MegaKeldeo and Arcena's Poke Premier League, with not much thought put into it, but after using it many times, it became very near and dear to me...haha, but really, this team is super-fun to use. I would appreciate any comments you have, because you're probably better than me at this game, and if you ever want to have a great time in UU, feel free to use Team Aether!
Warning: this may be a little long. I tend to ramble. But if you can handle that, well then, let's do it. So without further ado...here it is! Team Aether!

NoVa (Victini) @ Expert Belt
Trait: Victory Star
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- V-create
- U-turn
- Bolt Strike
- Brick Break
Oh, we be startin' off with a bang, alright! An explosive lead! As you may notice, this is basically a standard Scarf Victini, except -- oh, what? Where's the Scarf? Yep, that's right, NoVa sacrifices a lot of speed for a circumstantial power boost, but I told myself from the beginning that this team wouldn't be standard, and that means especially the lead. Yes, NoVa is usually the lead on this team, as it can handle and outpace most anything, except of course another Victini. If I see that the opponent has a Victini however, I will definitely lead with NoVa anyway, as they will 9 times out of 10 lead with their own Scarfed Victin, and go for a U-turn, leaving NoVa to his own devices. And yes, before the Expert Belt, I did have Quick Attack instead of Brick Break (don't judge me, lol), but I reeeally don't like screeners, and even NoVa and Neos, my two main sweepers, can't deal with them.
Other than the gigantic raw power of a supernova in his V-Create, NoVa comes equipped with Bolt Strike, U-turn, and Brick Break, giving him very nice coverage, and ensuring at least neutral hits on anything. And since bluffing the Scarf usually works, NoVa will almost always be able to U-turn in dire situations if his V-create has become too crippling. Of course, his base 100 defenses are nothing to scoff at; most normally effective moves won't even faze this guy. I tell you, he's a lifesaver. But in the event that NoVa has to hard switch, he has many potentially safe options.

SMORFY (Bronzong) @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spd
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic
- Gyro Ball
- Earthquake
Like this guy, for example. SMORFY has a great defensive typing, and he works well to cover the weaknesses of the rest of the team. And while he's not exactly the best attacker, you'll find his Gyro Balls do quite a lot to certain things *ahem* Froslass *cough*. Rocks are on because why not, and Toxic is there because he can, and it always helps to neutralize walls and wear down stalls. I really don't have much to say about SMORFY. His EVs make him a defensive monster, and even in SpDef, he isn't bad. He can easily live most attacks, and usually only fears the great Chandelure and Victini. Overall, he's a great defensive presence and a go-to guy when the going gets tough. Of course, it wouldn't do to switch him in on potential setups, as he won't be doing much good there. Oh, and he's completely at a loss for dealing with anything named Substitute, so yeah.

Suhaib (Cofagrigus) @ Leftovers
Trait: Mummy
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature
- Calm Mind
- Shadow Ball
- Hidden Power [Fighting]
- Will-O-Wisp
Which brings us to this guy. I know, the EV spread may seem kind of redundant, considering Bronzong's role as defensive wall. However, this little ghost...coffin...thing...isn't just about gargantuan defenses. It's about being an all-around guy...ghost...sheez, just...skip it. For starters, this guy can take any unboosted physical hit you care to name, then proceed to burn the Attack stat off of that particular threat. Also works when SMORFY's down or unusable for any reason and Suhaib wants to stop Lefties recovery or something of the sort. Other than the usual maintenance and scaling down, Suhaib also works very well late-game, as he is very capable of fatally damaging the Pokemon that the sweepers have already dented. And let's not forget that, with a few CM boosts, Suhaib is a tank of destruction (or a sweeper if they're running Trick Room). If you manage to set up one or two Calm Minds, especially late-game, your opponent can kiss the match goodbye. Boasting perfect neutral coverage and a great ability (freaking Guts Heracrosses, haha), and of course, the aforementioned defensive prowess, this guy is just tomb much for the UU tier to handle sometimes.
...
No? No puns?
...
Okay. :[

Lightning (Hitmontop) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Impish Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Stone Edge
- Sucker Punch
- Close Combat
I KNOW HE'S FULLY DEFENSIVE AGAIN. This is why I'm asking you guys to rate this team, haha, because although it really does work great for me, it does still seem to have some kinks. And Lightning, although he is still awesome, has given me the most trouble so far. But let's list off all the good points for starters. First off, Lightning's ability, Intimidate, makes him a GREAT switch-in to some very threatening Pokemon, namely, Mienshao and Heracross. His stellar defenses (which are higher than SpDef in this...hmm) make him even more capable in this regard, and his base 110 SpDef is nothing to scoff at. His moves give him perfect coverage and priority, although they lack power, and usually can't do much. Lightning's main selling point s Stone Edge: I know it's on the standard set as an option, but you'd be surprised how many Chandelures switch in on that anyway. Also, he's good against known Scarfers, as he'll be able to Sucker Punch them to oblivion -- though only if they've taken a hit or two.

Mulk (Nidoking) (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Sheer Force
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Earth Power
- Fire Blast
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
And now, we finally move from defense to pure offense. I'm sure you don't need reminding of the awesome power of this particular behemoth. Most, if not all of you, have witnessed the utter annihilation that this beast can unleash when equipped with a Life Orb and, literally, the ability of its dreams. BoltBeam coverage, plus a fantastic STAB move and a great heavy hit in Fire Blast, make Mulk a major menace (pardon the alliteration). Seriously, what can I say other than "be afraid"? This one Pokemon, Mulk, has the potential to tear through teams all by himself. He outspeeds a lot of things, non-Scarf Chandelure among them, but really, even though he's still outsped by a great many threats (MEW), he's still a great option when the timing is right. Usually, like Suhaib, Mulk functions as cleanup. And you better stay out of the way when he does. This is one mop you won't...be able to...just...just ignore me, will you?

Neos (Togekiss) (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature
- Air Slash
- Aura Sphere
- Fire Blast
- Psyshock
YES. HE'S SCARFED. DEAL WITH IT. God, I love this Pokemon. Just look at it. Have you ever seen anything more beautiful? Have you ever faced such a monstrous opponent? Have you ever had such a feeling of simultaneous joy and terror as the one you get when gazing upon the majesty that is SCARF TOGEKISS?
Okay, let's get one thing straight: this Pokemon WORKS. Not only can it survive a bunch of hits, but it can also outspeed basically anything, even tying with Scarf Chandelure. And yes, I do appreciate the flinch HAX. Sue me. If you don't wanna get flinched, use Bisharp. Or Mienshao. Or Crobat. Or...UMBREON. Grr, that thing. But you see, even for these, and Scarf Heracross and Mienshanes -- shao, yeah, that -- huge threats to Neos, there are solutions. I know, Neos Can't touch Umbreons, not even with Aura Sphere. But SMORFY basically walls them and can toxic them with no fear. For Mienshao and Heracross, we have Lightning and Suhaib respectively, especially Lightning, who checks both and is necessary for rocks removal. But really, with blistering speed after Scarf, a great base 120 SpAtk stat, and usable bulk, Neos does very well...oh, and there's of course the fact that NOBODY expects ANYONE to run Scarf Togekiss. Well, if this team gets known then I can say goodbye to that, but even so, Neos, along with his other compadres, is a very fun Pokemon to use, and will guarantee you a great time, if you know how to have it.
So, all in all, a very fun team, as I keep saying. I mean, yes, I'm asking you all to rate it for efficiency, but mostly, actually, I posted this because I had so much fun with this team, I couldn't help but share it with you all. Sometimes I think we forget that this is just a game, and is meant to be fun in every way possible. But yeah, I'll stop; I've gone on for too long. Tell me what you think, though! Is it good? Is it not (not that I'll believe that; almost every team is good if the maker likes it, right)? Is it as fun for you as it is for me? Either way, thank you for reading through this, sorry if I said anything wrong (I tend to do that), and I wish you all the best in everything!
On the subject of names...
Team Aether is named such because of its infinite potential, reaching farther than the aether itself, as well as for its ability to play every role possible, and occupy every station of matter. Or maybe that's just me being weird. :]
NoVa is named such, mainly because of V-create and the fact that, like a supernova, it is a huge explosion of light and heat that does severe damage to everything in its path, but leaves the user (or the star) crippled and sometimes broken. And of course, the V is capitalized, because VICTORY is VICTINI's greatest task, one he does well.
SMORFY is named such, not for anything related to the Smurfs, who happen to be (creepy) blue people. No, SMORFY is just the first random name I thought of, and it seems to fit for some reason. Look at dem eyez. Dey be SMORFY. :]
Suhaib is named after one of my friends, for certain reasons. ;)
Lightning is the English translation of the Arabic name for the Dragoon Beyblade...thing. You know, the one the main character had? I dunno; I watched all this in Arabic. And, like lightning (and a spinning top, and a freaking dragon), the guy is definitely an intimidating force, especially when he's rushing straight at you.
Mulk is actually a quite funny derivation So in Arab-land, we would drink this awesome powdered milk stuff called Nido. Nido, Nidoking, yes, you see where I'm going with this. If I ever make a Nidoqueen, I'll call her Malk. Their two differing personas match very well with the personas displayed in that one YT vid, "Malk," which, of course, is where I got this. =)
And last, but definitely not least, is Neos. Possessing the sheer cosmic power of the aether, along with control over the energies of fire, wind, aura, and telekinesis, zooming through the galaxies, coursing through the cosmos, sailing through space and tearing through time, the great warrior incarnate lives on in the cutest little jubilee bird you've ever seen. :]
