ORAS OU Well it's not Uber sooo...... Mega Sableye Team

Hey guys! So for awhile I've had this idea to make a team based around Mega Sableye, but just as I sat down to work on it, the star of the show went under Suspect Testing and I was worried I may have waited too long (considering how most Suspects of late have gone to the Uber). However, I was very pleased when he narrowly missed the bump and have been working on a team and testing plenty since the results. Here's what has worked best for me so far.

serperior.gif

Boa (Serperior) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Contrary
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Mirror Coat
- Leaf Storm
- Dragon Pulse
- Hidden Power [Ground]

Serperior was an original member of this team. My biggest fear when making a team based around Sableye-M was a safe way to deal with Fairies. This AV build of Serperior is capable not only of taking out common Fairies with Mirror Coat, but adds a plethora of coverage to deal with Rotom-W, Heatran, and outright sweep teams even through Special Walls. It's contributed plenty to the team with it's solid bulk and speed.

talonflame.gif

Wingblast (Talonflame) @ Leftovers
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 56 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 196 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Roost
- Flare Blitz
- Brave Bird
- Swords Dance

Talonflame was another original member of this team, and it has stuck around throughout the testing. Given its relative bulk (with the HP Investment) and ability to outspeed most things even without the help of Gale Wings, it has proven an effective setup sweeper and late game cleanup tool (especially when dealing with other late gamers like Alakazam-M and Scarfed Keldeo.

latios.gif

Sonic (Latios) (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Defog
- Draco Meteor
- Surf
- Psyshock

While Sableye-M's build and role is generally to predict and prevent status moves and Entry Hazards, I wanted a way to remove those that slip by unexpectedly. Latios' coverage not only provided some much needed support to the offensive core of the team, it also gave me a Defog option to allow Talonflame to more safely survive until late game while still being able to switch in without SR damage. The Surf also picks off unsuspecting Landorus-T and Glisor that try to make a safe switch on a Psyshock.

sableye.gif

Galaxio (Sableye-Mega) @ Sablenite
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Knock Off
- Recover
- Will-O-Wisp
- Taunt

Here it is, the big star of the team. I decided to go with the Specially Defensive build because there were very good bulk options to pair it with on the physical side and Will-O-Wisp covers the bulk. Also, this build allows me to stay in Prankster form for a little longer without requiring me to switch to the Mega until I absolutely need to. Taunt makes this build a great anti-lead (even more so than before) and Knock Off helps get rid of some items (it's very easy to predict a switch against this little guy).

milotic.gif

Wave (Milotic) @ Leftovers
Ability: Marvel Scale
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
- Recover
- Haze
- Scald
- Ice Beam

Milotic has also survived plenty of testing as far as the team is concerned. My main issue early on was to deal with Gliscor after Latios gets KOed (which regrettably happens quicker than I'd like when he's very necessary). I also had issues dealing with massive Setup Sweepers on the special end, so access to Haze and Scald made Milotic very potent against a plethora of threats.

clefable.gif

Moon Moon (Clefable) @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD
Modest Nature
- Moonblast
- Flamethrower
- Moonlight
- Heal Bell

Clefable was a recent addition to the team. I was having problems taking out Ferrothorn (even though I was able to wall it with fair ease with Sableye, it would always stay around and ruin late games, or switch in on a Brave Bird and deal MASSIVE recoil damage to my Talonflame), so Clefable's Flamethrower is meant for that (and dealing with Scizor that may predict a switch and go for a Knock Off or Swords Dance). Heal Bell also provided a nice way to remove Toxic from stall breaks trying to get through Milotic and Serperior.

This is the team so far. I think it's covered all of Sableye's weaknesses fairly well, though I still struggle every now and then against Gardevoir-M. Any swaps/ideas for that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

Hello Zane Elliott,

Few things that come to mind, this team is made around sableye so I recommend fixing your sableye set. By adding 248 hp 112 def 144 spdef careful with 4 speed, you are allowing your sableye to still tank hits from gengar, alakazam (w/o dazzling gleam) and other special attackers while still having enough physical bulk to switch into garchomp and lando t earthquakes. Next thing i think should be fixed is changing your milotic spread to 248hp 160 def 92 spdef calm. also make sableye knock off recover foul play and will o wisp this will allow you to stop set up sweepers and knock off items from annoying mons like heatran. Also you said your team is weak to ferrothorn but you have a sableye which is a hard counter to ferrothorn. This will allow you to still tank the powerful special attackers you want milotic to tank while still allowing you with enough defense to help the team. Also consider changing haze to mirror coat on milotic and toxic for wearing down switch ins like lati, serp, rotom-w. Now for clefable if you want to run this clefable Run 252hp 248 def 8 spdef bold with cm moonblast heal bell moonlight. this will help you heal bell support burns on sab status on milotic and talonflame and with calm mind you can beat opposing cm'ers if need be as well as having something for dd dragonite. This will allow you to be able to check weavile if he doesnt flinch, while sponging up hits and absorbing status for your team. Also leftovers>sitrus berry and run soft boiled over moonlight for more pp. Please just run lefties sub seed ferro and make talonflame 248 hp 248 spdef 12 speed careful. with taunt wisp bb roost. This will help you beat fairies reliably while still being able to clean up with brave bird.

Hey Zane Elliott, this is an interesting build. The issue I see with it though is that M-Sableye leaves you vulnerable to a lot of stallbreakers like M-Gardevoir, both Charizard formes, SpDef Talonflame, Manaphy, Serperior, Taunt + Magma Storm Heatran, as well as Calm Mind Clefable, M-Diancie, etc., and your team can't handle a lot of the aforementioned Pokemon very well. My rate will be focused on trying to patch up your weaknesses to these Pokemon, as well as help improve your match up against stall and balance teams which your team currently seems to struggle in breaking.

To start it off, you should adjust your Sableye spread. You should run a spread of 252 HP / 172 Def / 84 SpD with a Careful Nature on M-Sableye which allows you to take two Life Orb Shadow Balls from Gengar, two Life Orb Icicle Crashes from Weavile, as well as have a high change of taking two Fire Blasts from offensive Heatran. Next, to help you deal with Charizard-Y and M-Gardevoir which get free switch-ins against M-Sableye, you should run SpDef Talonflame > Offensive Swords Dance. You can still run Bulk Up on it for a reliable win condition, and it can also help support M-Sableye by burning Garchomp, Landorus-T, etc to make it harder for them to try to break through Sableye to try to get up Stealth Rock.

Next, to help you deal with M-Diancie, Calm Mind users like Clefable, Keldeo, Suicune, Manaphy, as well as Tail Glow Manaphy, Serperior, and Taunt M-Gyarados that can take advantage of M-Sableye, you should run Unaware on Clefable > Magic Guard. You can also run Calm Mind on Clefable if you want an additional win condition. Also, for future reference, you should run a spread of 252 HP / 172 Def / 84 SpD with a Calm Nature on Clefable due to this letting it check a plethora of Pokemon such as non Specs Keldeo, Life Orb Thundurus, Specs Raikou, M-Manectric, Assault Vest Tornadus-T, Latios, M-Diancie, Kyurem-B, M-Lopunny, and more. You also should run Soft-Boiled instead of Moonlight on Magic Guard Clefable due to it having more PP, and also not being affected by weather conditions. I'll leave the set for Magic Guard Clefable below.

036.png

Clefable @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 172 Def / 84 SpD
Calm Nature
- Moonblast
- Calm Mind / Stealth Rock
- Flamethrower / Thunder Wave
- Soft-Boiled
For a main primary win condition that deals with stall and balance builds better, you should run Tail Glow Manaphy > Serperior. Tail Glow + Rain Dance matches up amazingly against stall, whereas Tail Glow + 3 Attacks matches up better against bulky offense and balance. You can try out both and see which one your prefer. Frankly Serperior just added to your weakness to Heatran, and HP Ground is a subpar option on it since it leaves you walled by Skarmory, Scizor, and Ferrothorn, and only really deals with Heatran and Bisharp, whereas on HP Fire beats all of them as well as Bisharp, but only misses out on Heatran. Manaphy overall is just a more reliable balance / stallbreaker than Serperior since it's harder to immediately check, whereas SpDef Heatran, SpDef Talonflame, and Assault Vest Tornadus-Therian are very common and all can check Serperior with ease. But if you do opt to continue to run Serperior, you should run Taunt instead of Mirror Coat on to allow it to deal to break Unaware Clefable, SpDef Skarmory, and Chansey, as well as Leftovers or Miracle Seed instead of Assault Vest since you have Unaware Clefable and SpDef Talonflame as it is for solid defensive components as it is.

Next, provide you with a Stealth Rock setter as well as something to to help deal with M-Pinsir, Thundurus, Landorus-T, Sand Rush Excadrill, SpDef Heatran, Charizard-X, Raikou, etc. while also stopping VoltTurn that can easily wear your team down even without hazards up, you should run Hippowdon > Milotic. This still permits you to check Talonflame, Bisharp, Dragonite, and numerous other physical attackers, while also checking electric types like Thundurus and M-Manectric to stop them from starting a VoltTurn chain around your team. And lastly, you should run Starmie > Latios since this gives a more consistent and reliable Keldeo check, as well as a form of hazard removal that can spin on stuff like Heatran, offensive Landorus-T, and Mold Breaker Excadrill that can get up hazards on M-Sableye. It also helps you deal with stuff like Gliscor, SpDef Talonflame, and Stallbreaker Heatran better while additionally providing you with a status absorber.
