So i've been chilling on showdown for the last few days and for some reason i just haven't lost with this team yet lol. it seems like a pretty strong team but also i feel like it definitely has some weaknesses. Basically just looking for 1) Advice on what the main threats to this team are and 2) If any of you guys have some advice on things to switch. I'm gonna write a little blurb on each mon as well.
"Steve" (Corviknight-Gmax) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Lax Nature
- Bulk Up
- Brave Bird
- Roost
- Defog
Steve is a great excadrill switch in and runs defog to negate hazards since i'm aware that my lack of hazards is a weakness here lol. He's also generally able to take 1 hit from just about anything except for maybe a bolt break or some sort of banded/specs fire move. I'll typically switch this into hazards to take a move and then just start setting up bulk ups, which scares a lot of players. Basically this thing has enough stalling moves to keep it alive in sticky situations, capitalizing on bulk up's atk/def boost in a conkeldurr-esque way to be a sort of convertible threat and take out a few opponents.
"Hangin" (Toxapex) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Toxic
- Liquidation
- Baneful Bunker
- Recover
This is just your run-of-the-mill gen 8 toxapex, and the objective here was to be as annoying as possible. I'll literally throw it in and just click toxic bc people tend to try and hit it with their strongest move, which normally I can take. It still takes psychic fangs from Dracovish/Barraskewda and it's main threats are probably duraludon and hatterene, or just anything with a supereffective special move. Regenerator is probably the most annoying part about this guy too. Health for days.
":3" (Darmanitan-Galar) @ Choice Scarf /// is this banned now?
Ability: Gorilla Tactics
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Icicle Crash
- Flare Blitz
- Brick Break
- Earthquake
Only thing of note here is that I run earthquake which helps 2HKO/OHKO lots of steel types. not running close combat allows some of the bulkier guys to live a brick break but earthquake hits a little harder. Brick Break for the screeners running around these days.
"April" (Hatterene-Gmax) (F) @ Aguav Berry
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 SpD
Gentle Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Dazzling Gleam
- Psychic
- Mystical Fire
- Calm Mind
runs a berry but I have thought about doing an assault vest instead of the calm mind. reason against the vest is that this can help against toxapex esp. after calm minds. Most toxapexes aren't running big poison moves these days but if they were that would def be a concern of mine. April can also eat up a special move pretty well, and the berry helps a lot with live preservation bc Hatterene has like no HP as we all know. Also the Magic bounce helps a lot against hazards.
"Length" (Centiskorch-Gmax) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Crunch
- Fire Lash
- Power Whip
- Leech Life
I used to run a team where this was my main sweeper and it was banded, but the lack of hazard prevention kind of forces me into HDB now. The last 2 mons on this team are kind of just type coverage. This one in particular has a great time against ferrorthorns. I've considered dropping the speed EVs for something else just in case they're running Gyro ball but it hasn't really had a big effect. Crunch helps against ghost-types while leech life gives some more longevity (haha length). Power whip is helpful against slower water types, and it has a little synergy with max overgrowth -> toxapex/Corviknight for maximum health regeneration but this is the main mon right now that i feel I lack a use for. The bug typing only helps sometimes and a court-change Cinderace might be a better fit here. lmk!
"haha" (Gengar-Gmax) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Cursed Body
EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunderbolt
- Sludge Wave
- Shadow Ball
- Giga Drain
This along with toxapex is my rain team check, which is a large proportion of the threat teams running around OU rn. Tbolt for the pelippers/toxapex/mantines and Giga drain for the gastrodons/seismitoads. been considering a life orb on this too so I can keep selection diverse. It sometimes gets outsped and doesn't deal very well with the likes of dragapult etc. but it's a good surprise to people lol.
LMK what yall think! appreciate all constructive feedback :) i'm very new to competitive but this is what i've come ups with so far.
