XY OU What Gyara Does - Balance Your Way Into Gyarados, Through Volt/-Turning! (Not a Volt/-Turning Team)

Introduction:
The motivation behind the team was that I'd been scrubbing around alot lately (not being very focused nor competitive at the game), and I wanted to become competitive again. So I sat down, and tried to come up with a competitive team that suited me. This is the final result. Well, it's not completely final. Because I'm coming here, asking: "Maybe people know how I could make it even better?" And here I am! Enough introductions, here's the team at a glance:

Heatran @ Air Balloon
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 212 HP / 252 SpD / 44 Spe
Calm Nature
- Lava Plume
- Stealth Rock
- Taunt
- Will-O-Wisp

First things first, every team needs a Rocker, and Heatran sports an amazing typing and moves so for me it was pretty straight forward choice. Lava Plume is played over Fire Blast for the added burn chance. Taunt is there to stop other Rockers in the tier from setting up their rocks, or stopping Mandibuzz from Defogging, Clefable from setting up and just not dying, and finally, taking care of Venusaur-Mega (beware of EQ). It will always beat them 1v1! This makes it a surprisingly efficient stallbreaker. Lastly, WOW is there to cripple huge threats such as Bisharp or DD, Mega-Tyranitar. The EVs in speed are there to outspeed 40 Speed EVs Heatran (carrying them to outspeed Mandibuzz). Then it's Sp.Def is maxed up with the remaining EVs going into HP. Making this my main special wall, hazard setter, stallbreaker, and sometimes a crippler.

Venusaur @ Venusaurite
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 16 Spe
Bold Nature

- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Leech Seed
- Synthesis

Next up, I needed something that would pair well with my specially defensive Heatran, and seeing as how Venusaur-Mega walls the majority of physical threats in the current metagame, it was an easy pick. Moveset is pretty standard, but you're probably noticing it's missing Earthquake. I mean, you only really play it for Heatran, Magnezone and Bisharp, but Heatran and Magnezone are not really too threatening to this team. Bisharp is though, but Giga Drain still does around like 30% to it, and in combination with Leech Seed it adds up. So Leech Seed is the move I picked instead. it forces swithces and recovers team members who lack reliable recovery (mainly Heatran). The damage of Stealth Rocks, WOW and Leech Seed really adds up. 16 EVs are given to its speed to outpace max speed, adamant, Bisharp. Then I've made it as physically defensive as I could.

Zapdos @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 240 HP / 184 Def / 68 SpA / 16 Spe
Bold Nature

- Roost
- Defog

- Thunderbolt
- Heat Wave

Although I don't think a Defogger/Rapid Spinner is absolutely neccesary, I really wanted one. And besides, since this thing checks and counters Pinsir-Mega and helps with Bisharp, I figured: "Why not?"
The 16 EVs in speed are there to (once again) outspeed max speed, adamant, Bisharp. And the 68 Sp.Atk EVs are there to 1 hit KO Mega-Pinsir with Thunderbolt (without rocks up). And then I made it as physically defensive as I could to check stuff like Mega-Pinsir and Bisharp easier. Notice the "easier". That implies Zapdos is not meant to be a dedicated Bisharp check! It can if forced to, though. It's my dedicated Pinsir check still. Finally, Heat Wave provides excellent coverage again't steel or/and ground types, primarily Excadrill and Ferrothorn.

Landorus-Therian (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature

- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Knock Off
- Rock Slide

In my opinion every team needs a Scarfer. And Landorus-T has a wide plethora of useful properties that makes a Scarfer good - Great typing, great ability, U-Turn and Knock Off as well as great STABs and coverage. It's also a great pivot switch against SO many different, common Pokemon in the tier. Namely: Excadrill, Landorus-T, Gliscor, Heatran, Venusaur-Mega, Zapdos (unless Scarfed), Conkeuldurr (watch out for Ice Punch), Heracross and Skarmory - Just to name a "few".
Its amazing synergy with Magnezone also provides an extremely solid offensive Volt/-Turning core. And with the added up damage of Stealth Rocks, WOW, Leech Seed, U-Turn and Volt Switch, it will slowly but surely widdle away at the opponent until you can find the perfect time to start setting up with Gyarados.

Magnezone @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Flash Cannon
- Hidden Power [Fire]

Ok, you can probably understand why I want atleast one Scarfer, right? But two? The reason behind this is that I wanted a special attacker that had good synergy with Landorus-T, it can also trap steel types such as Ferrothorn that are hindering my Gyarados from setting up. But why the Choice Scarf? You see, it catches a lot of people off guard (even though Scarfed Magnezone is a thing my opponent wouldn't expect both Landorus-T and Magnezone to be Scarfed). Excadrill is one example, Mega-Gardevoir is another. It is worth noting it doesn't outspeed Latios, Latias, Gengar, Talonflame and Greninja. Even with the Scarf. But hey, what can you do?

Gyarados @ Leftovers
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 88 HP / 252 Atk / 168 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Substitute
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Bounce

This is the crux of the team - Its wincon, its sweeper, its cleaner. Your primary goal should always be to setup with Gyarados and win (that might change during the duration of the battle, though. Keep that in mind). The main way of doing it is through skillfull pivoting and initiating switches. Prediction is also a big part of it. But before setting up you have to make sure that the the things that check this and hinders its sweeping is gone. the 168 speed EVs are there to outspeed (for the third time) Max attack, Adamant, Bisharp. Then I made it as offensive as I could and threw the remaining 88 EVs into bulk. One final thing worth noting is that Moxie is played over Intimidate because of frickin' BISHARP. -.-
