What is fair?

Hi,

I am pretty much completely new to the world of competitive pokemon and only picked up Platinum recently. I have played Diamond and all the other games before so I have a basic knowledge about pokemon but my question regards Wi-Fi battles and the usage of Action Replay tools.

Do you use them? Do you consider them "fair-play"?

I recently talked to a guy who already had 900 hours of playtime on his Platinum version and now I ask myself: "Do you all really invest that much time with breeding, tutoring, driving up and down the road to hatch egg after egg after egg or do you simply look at the pokemon that you want and edit them via Action Replay module?"

Afterall, I wonder if this time commitment really measures the skill of players or just shows how much free time they have.

I would like to play tournaments but if this community does frown upon people who use e.g. pokesav then I would rather go the normal way and train my ass off.

Please give me some input about this.

I think this should be in Stark Mountain or Wi-Fi, but my philosophy is that if you want to cheat and hack shit, play Shoddy because no one will care whether you have flawless events and whatnot.

Most people here play Shoddy anyways so the issue is largely irrelevant outside of Wi-Fi.

Fairness is an illusion that people hold onto for whatever reason.

It doesn't actually exist.

EDIT: oh, this was about Pokemon :(

the way I see it is that the game of pokemon is a game of battling, the methods used to obtain the pokemon are irrelevant.

Other than the fact that this shouldn't be in Congregation, there is no generally accepted definition of "fairness".
