What're Their Lasts?
Back in generations 1-4, team preview did not exist, and as such it was vital to be able to discern what the opponents remaining Pokemon were. Even though we are now blessed with team preview, the ability to work out which Pokemon would be the best choice for the last teamslot(s) is a vital question during the teambuilding process.

In this project, every week the hosts will post a team that a player has built, but with two of the Pokemon missing. It is your goal to suggest which Pokemon would fit best in these last slots. There will be two stages each week, a nominations stage, where you will be able to submit your suggestion, and a voting phase. The person who recieves the most votes will win the week, and be added to our hall of fame, along with their submission!

At the end of each week, we will also reveal what the original Pokemon were. Even if you did not guess these Pokemon however, this does not mean your choice was wrong. Teams may have multiple paths to fill their weaknesses, and you may have found an even better option than the original builder.

Hopefully this project will help any aspiring builders improve their teambuilding skills! If you would like to submit a team to be used in an upcoming week, please PM Estarossa on Smogon or Discord (
Saria#4720), providing us with an import, and a short building process for your team! We can't promise your team will be featured, but it is worth trying!

Rules

  • Please only post viable Pokemon in the UU metagame. In general one can refer to the Viability Rankings thread to get a general idea of this.
  • Exceptions will be made on a case by case basis if enough evidence is provided to support why your nomination is a viable choice, eg. overlooked Pokemon you believe to have a niche. Replays and calcs are highly advised in this scenario, on top of a detailed explanation.
  • For any other nomination, a small paragraph will suffice for a nomination. You may choose to add calcs and replays too to strengthen your arguement if you like however. One-liners should be avoided.
  • Do not post unviable sets. Alternative coverage options or items may be permitted if within reason, however they should not negatively affect a Pokemon in terms of other matchups greatly.
  • You may submit the same Pokemon as someone else, provided at least one of the sets are different. For instance, if someone has already submitted special Victini + Zeraora, you may still submit Choice Band Victini + Zeraora.
  • NO slashing is permitted. You may not have 5 moves, 2 abilities, 2 items etc. in a match, the same should be true here.
  • Reservations are permitted provided the post is complete within 24 hours. After this time limit, anyone may take your reservation freely. Please post your sets when posting a reservation, eg. Swords Dance Tapu Bulu + Grassy Seed Reuniclus.
  • Each person may only submit once per round.
  • When choosing a Pokemon and set, try to analyse what the team is weak to or is unable to break before submitting. Don't just submit a random Pokemon for the sake of it.
  • You may not change any of the provided sets on the other 4 Pokemon in order to better fit a submission. You should instead submit based upon the given sets.
  • During the voting phase you may only vote for one person unless otherwise instructed. You may not vote for yourself.

:ss/zeraora: :ss/salamence:

Zeraora @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Volt Switch
- Play Rough
- Knock Off
- Plasma Fists

Salamence @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hurricane
- Draco Meteor
- Flamethrower
- Roost

The current team, while having priority in Scizor's bullet punch, is quite slow. Zeraora makes up for this while creating a VoltTurn core with Scizor. Play Rough Zeraora is particularly helpful here as the team struggles to switch into Kommo-o. Salamence rounds this team off nicely with a strong check to opposing Scizor, and something capable of greatly pressuring Amoonguss and Rotoms for Scizor, and Grass-types like Tangrowth and Tapu Bulu for Zeraora.

Current Team - Week 3

"This team is built around the combination of CB Crawdaunt + Future Sight Teleport Slowking, an incredibly dangerous wallbreaking duo that can shred all sorts of defensive cores. Slowking and Salamence provide a nice defensive backbone, checking all sorts of threats like Victini and Kommo-o, while providing teleport and defog support respectively. Nidoqueen provides an offensive rocker and offensive check to Zeraora that can further help put pressure on defensive backbones. What are my lasts?"

Welcome back to the 2nd edition of What's Their Lasts? this generation, for the DLC2 metagame! This first week's team will be provided by yours truly. Reminder that you need to submit a core of 2 final Pokemon that best fit this team!

Week One

:ss/salamence: :ss/palossand: :ss/slowking: :ss/umbreon:

https://pokepast.es/82f66bed4d256643

"This semi-stall team is designed around the combination of Umbreon + Palossand. Umbreon is a really nice special wall atm that provides one of the single best Latias answers, alongside being a great answer to threatening Pokemon like Nidoqueen, Dragon Dance Gyarados and Kyurem (also beats SubRoost not just Choice Specs unlike Chansey because Foul Play does A LOT to Kyurem with its 130 attack stat). Toxic over Heal Bell makes sure it's not constantly giving free momentum to threatening wallbreakers like Azumarill, Terrakion, and Kommo-o. Palossand is a fantastic teammate to it that stonewalls Terrakion, and provides a nice Zeraora check for bulkier teams that actually blocks its momentum. Salamence provides a great check to Pokemon like Scizor, Tapu Bulu, Victini and Conkeldurr for this core, and Defog support. Slowking offers an aditional check to Pokemon like Victini and Keldeo; a Calm Mind set also allows it to become a nice win condition for such a bulky team, while letting it really nicely check Pokemon like Calm Mind Slowbro-Galar and Calm Mind Suicune. What are my lasts?"
Submissions are due by Monday 1st February, with Week 2 due to start after Latias suspect results!

Skarmory @ Rocky Helmet

- Brave Bird

Vileplume @ Black Sludge
Ability: Effect Spore
EVs: 252 HP / 152 Def / 48 SpA / 56 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Aromatherapy
- Moonblast
- Sludge Bomb
- Synthesis

Since this is hosted by Estarossa I think it's safe to say that Vileplume is the obvious choice here for one of the last mons. It supplies much needed Aromatherapy support, absorbs toxic spikes, and threatens things like Crawdaunt and Azumarill which really do a number on the original team. Vileplume being somewhat offensive also saves this team from being a totally 100% gross stall team. Skarmory offers Spikes support and can whirlwind out problematic sweepers like Gyarados, Azu, Scizor, or Demon Mew which would otherwise 6-0 the entire team. Both of these also help with the Grass matchup so that Salamence is not your only answer to those (in particular Bulu which runs through Palo/Slowk/Umbreon).

Congrats to BigFatMantis for truly knowing the unviable favorites of esta, the originals were vileplume and skarmory. I'll be cohosting this and providing this week's team! Reminder that you need to submit a core of 2 final Pokemon that best fit this team!

Rotom-Wash @ Choice Scarf

Scizor @ Metal Coat
Ability: Technician
EVs: 120 HP / 252 Atk / 136 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- U-turn
- Bullet Punch
- Roost

Terrakion @ Life Orb
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Stone Edge
- Close Combat
- Megahorn

I made this build around Life Orb Krookodile, it's pretty strong and can lure Tapu Bulu and Tangrowth with Sludge Bomb. Scarf Rotom-W is able to provide speed control and support with Thunder Wave. T Scizor can form a Voltturn core with Rotom-W and can clean up late game with Swords Dance potentially. Terrakion appreciates Krookodile and Scizor wearing down Tangrowth with Sludge Bomb. Terrakion itself does a good job breaking with Life Orb and Swords Dance too. What are my lasts?

thanks avarice for proving you are stinky for providing a great 4 but with the worst sets.
:bw/victini: :bw/amoonguss:
special pivot tini is broken with scizor and will vortex every team and keep in check some mons like sciz that rwash cant since its the awful set. amonguss adds a bulky grass so you are not 6-0ed by zera among other things.
i have this team in my builder but with the good sets : https://pokepast.es/0951d5a211c525ac l2b

Skarmory @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 120 Def / 136 Spe
Impish Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Body Press
- Spikes
- Iron Defense
- Roost

Slowking @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 232 Def / 24 SpD
Calm Nature
- Scald
- Future Sight
- Slack Off
- Teleport

These pokemon help this offensive based team by providing spikes support in the case of skarm, giving a daunt switch in that can outspeed it. Slowking is future port and a defensive water because scarf tom dosent count since its worn down so easily over the course of the game. It also gives a switch in into keldeo which this team really struggle against and helps to scout CB victini or check the special varient.

:ss/Alakazam: :ss/Salamence:

Alakazam @ Focus Sash
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Psyshock
- Focus Blast
- Shadow Ball

Salamence @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Defog
- Hurricane
- Fire Blast
- Roost

This team looks very offensive, so the best thing to do is keep up the pressure with more offense! Alakazam with Nasty Plot provides extreme Special force that the team otherwise lacks, and has a Sash for emergency situations so the team can have a bail-out. Mence is fully Special Attack invested as well to add some more Special firepower with Fire and Flying, which will ensure the grasses are never a problem. It also has Defog support since nothing has boots. So long as you constantly keep up the offensive pressure and skillfully pivot with Rotom/Scizor it's hard for anything to really gain a foothold on you.

Volcanion @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Steam Eruption
- Fire Blast
- Sludge Bomb
- Defog

Tangrowth @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Sleep Powder
- Giga Drain
- Knock Off
- Sludge Bomb

Skarmory/spikes in general really pressure the original 4, same with Ground types cuz Washtom gets worn down by repeated Knock Offs or whatever else. Since the original 4 pressure fat pretty well, I felt comfortable using unmon Volcanion to pressure Skarmory, function as hazard control, as also help not losing to Azumarill at preview. Tangrowth helps with Ground types, Azu, as well as gives the team an actual Knock absorber. I hate choice rotom

Congratulations to Ramolost on winning this week with their Amoonguss + Victini submission! As he points out Amoonguss provides a solid Zeraora check for this team, while Victini forms a nasty voltturn core with scizor and helps to check opposing Scizor which this washtom set struggles to do. As phobic is a weirdo, the original last two on this team were Offensive 3 attacks Spikes Mew and Noivern, so oddly enough no-one managed to get the originals this week '-'

Ramo - 2
Mantis - 1
Hydregionthechild - 1

This week's team comes from Monky25, ty for the submission!

Submissions are due by Sunday 28th February!

:ss/Zeraora: :ss/Tapu Bulu:

Zeraora @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- Plasma Fists
- Volt Switch
- Play Rough

Tapu Bulu @ Life Orb
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Horn Leech
- Close Combat
- Zen Headbutt

So Zeraora gives you much needed Speed Control, an extra elec immunity for Slowking/Crawdaunt, and an important extra pivot for you to switch into Queen when someone tries to switch Tang/Moonguss on you. Bulu's terrain helps this team tremendously, and it can stomach taking a Knock Off too better than Slowking can. More importantly, it helps against things like Azumarill that could otherwise run through this team, and with Swords Dance boosting it gives an extra wincon for endgame too.

Scizor @ Safety GOogles / Shed shell
Ability: Technician
EVs: 120 HP / 252 Atk / 136 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- U-turn
- Bullet Punch
- Roost
Alakazam @ Life Orb
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psychic
- Focus Blast
- Shadow Ball
- Knock Off

This team is literally 6-0d by Kyurem without a Scizor lawlss so thats pretty necessary. I opted for safety googles here because amoongus kinda owns by sleeping whatever it wants for free, and while it loses to foul play theres always the chance they dont have it and after 1 spore i can uturn out on their attack but its not perfect counterplay since i still risk sleeping a neccesary mon. shed shell is an option to avoid running into Kyurem Magnezone but of course it will be useless outside of that. I chose Alakazam as fastest mon because with Queen/Mence Zeraora shouldnt be too much of a problem and common scarfers lose to mence. Biggest problem is probably getting knocked by krook as mence but defog should save that if their rocker isnt rhyperior :D Zam outspeeds p much everything good and knock makes it own Stall(chansey) pretty easily while crippling some other shit. Jirachi @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Iron Head
- U-turn
- Healing Wish
- Trick

Tapu Bulu @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 252 HP / 112 Atk / 144 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Horn Leech
- Darkest Lariat
- Synthesis

Bulu and jirachi forms a nice core with the other mons, slowking and salamence provide them with a fire resistance, while jirachi is able to take toxic's, kyurem's stabs, is fast with a choice scarf, has healing wish to give mons such as nidoqueen and crawdaunt a 2nd life since they lack recovery and easily worn down. Tapu bulu provides grassy terrain for everybody besides salamence and gives them recovery to help them with not being worn down easily. It provides grassy terrain to members to nidoqueen, itself, jirachi and slowking to make them unkillable and also boosting its stab horn leech. This is an SD bulu to clean games after crawdaunt already punched big holes in the opponents team. Boots is here so it is not forced to use synthises as often and is able to constantly apply pressure without giving free turns to the opponent. While boots are important to it, it is able to afford to be the main dark resist of the team since the team so despiritly needs its own crawdaunt, and krookidile. And also gives an effectivly a ground resistance to all grounded teamates
