When everything stood still!

Introduction

Yo Smogonites! I actually wanna do the first RMT for NU but since that team was just fucking bad, I decided to forgo that team and make a new team, but this time with some help from NOMONEYNOPRBLM in the Smogon server. He helped me shitloads and I kinda like how the team is going right now, but with a few things not in place. NU is a tier completely new to me and is the tier I am most comfortable with(apart from LC <3). To me, only two words can describe NU: Endless possibility. With the amount of Pokemon in the tier, every Pokemon can be viable. Some not as viable as others, some more viable as compared to others. And my goal for NU, is to know the meta, know all the Pokemon and what they might be using. Devise a strategy and win. But the problem now is, I am far from that. My team can only check a few common ones at best. And I really want to improve my skills. I tried to join Battling 101, but didn't due to personal reasons; I just didn't have the time. So all I can do is come to this RMT section and seek helps from the pros. This team is based on Quick Feet SD Ursaring suggested by NOMONEYNOPRBLM. As so, Ursaring is an extremely frail Pokemon, and can only sweep, When everything stood still(I have no idea how that phrase came about so ignore me).

The Team

@ Eviolite
Trait: Lightningrod
EVs: 160 HP / 252 Atk / 96 Def
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Megahorn

This is my lead 90% of the time. It's nothing special, I tried to invest some of the EVs into the SpD side, but seems like it ain't helping me tank any shit at all. I considered running 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Atk but it will lack significant firepower but since it's Atk is already high enough, it doesn't really matter. I'm bad at EVs so I would appreciate some help here. SR is a neccessity due to the lack of Rapid Spinners in NU. To be honest, there are some really good Spinners in NU, but because sometimes, due to the amount of things you have to check in NU, fitting one is really a task. I've tried and failed. It's probably me. I don't know lol. Anyway, EdgeQuake combo + Megahorn. Simple stuff. Megahorn helps me hit Slowking hard and yeah, that's all.

Side note: I've realized that Rhydon isn't pulling his weight in the team. Yeah he's tanking stuff but really, I can't do much with him. EdgeQuake hits hard and all. I really don't know what am I doing wrong.

@ Toxic Orb
Trait: Quick Feet
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- Close Combat
- Facade
- Shadow Claw

May I present to you, the master of all Motherfuckers. The elite of elites. Quick Feet SD Ursaring. To be completely honest with you, even though this is the star of the team, I am not completely happy with him. He lacks too much staying power. He cannot stay in at all. Like really. Even if you predict a status switch in and then SD up, you have to take 1) Hazards damage. 2) The attack of the opponent. 3) Toxic Orb. And if you are experienced in playing against such opponents, you know you can play around it. Protect, smart switching etc. But once it starts to get a SD up, he is geared up. He can OHKO - 2HKO the entire tier. I might be exaggerating(:P) but I haven't found anyone I cannot OHKO / 2HKO. Close Combat is just those pesky Rocks / Steels. Facade generally wins. Shadow Claw is for Ghosts. Even though there's Crunch...Shadow Claw sounds better. And since I'm not nabbing any significant KOs with Crunch, might as well use Shadow Claw which works as well.

Side-note: I really, really love to use Ursaring. He is like...so fucking good! He once took out 4 Pokemon on the opponent's team and let my Tangela + Flareon combo stall them out and to be honest, he's a great Pokemon but the problem is he is too squishy and lacks staying power. Even though a Flareon can pass Wishes(which I have), but it is EXTREMELY difficult to pass a Wish to Ursaring as any attack and blow through him. So suggestions is very, very appreciated. I will switch him out if you guys have a better alternative.

@ Eviolite
Trait: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Leech Seed
- Sleep Powder
- Giga Drain
- Protect

May I introduce to you, the King of the Walls in NU. This little guy beats every single Wall in terms of walling. Hands down. Even though he's EV'd towards the Physical spectrum, he can take Special attack extremely well too and that is something I must emphasize on. Mesprit dealt 96% to him using Ice Beam. That shows how BULKY this guy is. Unless it's a Magmortar or some sort, taking down this guy is tough shit. With Regenerator, it's pure win. Leech Seed + Sleep Powder is always nice. Oh yeah you have a counter to Tangela? Sleep Powder(bar Magmortar, which is imo a true counter to Tangela). Other than Grass types, Leech Seed away! I can always count on this guy to fan out hard shits. Protect is for that stalling and Giga Drain is overall helpful. I have no complains towards this guy. He is just absolutely fabulous.

@ Leftovers
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Wish
- Protect
- Lava Plume
- Roar

Second part of my absolutely fabulous defensive core(/claim credits). Flareon. Flareon + Tangela has absolutely no weakness(except for Poison and some other junk lol which both of them takes like a champ) and is one of the sturdiest walls to take down. Flareon is surprisingly bulky on the Special side and I have no idea as to how bulky this thing is! Wish is for healing himself and other teammates(generally for Ursaring but...read the Side-note for Ursaring). Protect is to stall out a turn. I picked Lava Plume for the Burn chance and after the opponent is burned, Flareon acts like a pseudo-mixed wall. Roar is for fools that think he can set up on me. I have no complains towards this guy too.

082.gif
@ Eviolite
Trait: Magnet Pull
EVs: 252 HP / 80 Def / 176 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Flash Cannon
- Hidden Power [Fire]

Ultimate Klinklang counter and Swellow check. I randonly spread my EVs out so it's kinda balanced but overall, it's working not TOO bad for me. Thunderbolt + Volt Switch is STAB and Thunderbolt hits kinda hard. Volt Switch so pussy out when situation is bad. Flash Cannon is to hit the Rocks etc and HP Fire to absolutely murder Klinklang(which is pretty OP) and opposite Magneton. Not too much to say here but it tanks shit pretty well. I'm generally happy with this. If anybody can offer a replacement, I will gladly take it but since this is my only hope for Swellow + Klinklang...

467.gif
@ Choice Scarf
Trait: Vital Spirit
EVs: 24 HP / 252 SAtk / 232 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Overheat
- Thunderbolt
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Yo Tangela. Come at me bro. Magmortar is the bane of all Tangelas. Vital Spirit is a huge boon to this guy. Me and NOMONEY think that since we have no Scarfers, why not use this guy? It's the only "real" special attacker and Scarf Magmortar is one of the Pokemon that can outspeed a lot of Pokemon. Overheat > Fire Blast because since I'm trapped in a move, why not use the move that really blows instead of Fire Blast? Thunderbolt is to hit Water types which will wall me to no end. Focus Blast. Hey Miltank. Yeah you. I'm talking to you. HP Ice is for Dragons and Grass and whatnot. Generally, I don't quite use it.

Yeah, that's all for my NU team. I really like the tier and wanna get into it as soon as possible. I am tired of continuously making teams thay don't work. I would like to settle down with one and tweak it accordingly.

Definitely gotta agree with the Hp Fire/Ground comment. As is, stab TBolt has 2.5 more bp than a SE Hp Fire, so it's actually a worse option v.Klinklang. Hp Grass/Ground allow you to hit Lanturn fairly hard, as well as putting a nice hole in Quaggy or opposing Magneton, respectively. Anywho, your team looks pretty solid, but I feel like I'm staring at a big CS Sawk sweep waiting to happen. With enough residual damage on Rhydon and Tangela, Sawk can basically CC spam your whole team to death. Similarly, Scollipede looks like he can be a huge problem, should he be played well and avoid pointlessly getting revenged by Magmortar. The best remedy I can think of the top of my head would be testing around with physically defensive Misdreavus. Something like dis:
[SET]
name: Physically Defensive (support?)
move 1: Shadow Ball
move 2: Will-O-Wisp
move 3: Pain Split
move 4: Heal Bell / Taunt
item: Eviolite
ability: Levitate
nature: Bold
evs: 252 HP / 232 Def / 24 Spe
Jacked this off Zebraiken's analysis, cuz I'm too lazy to make one myself :3 But in all seriousness, this set is extremely solid (from experience here), and allows you to adequately check some rather potent offensive threats. Anywho, gl with ur teams, and I hope was of some assistance.

Thanks for the rate guys! I would definitely replace HP Fire with Ground as Lanturn likes to come in and wall me to no end. But Misdreavus over who? Tangela? And btw, any suggestions for Rhydon and Ursaring? Rhydon really isn't pulling his weight and Ursaring dies too fast. I really need help with that.

Nice team, I suggest running HP fire over Protect on Tangela, to become a solid counter to Klinklang (If Magneton dies or something) and also prevents from being set-up fodder for other Grass-types,

i'd have to say on ursaring, ursaing gets access to crunch, which has more base power than shadow claw and doesnt mean a free switch in to a normal type such as swellow

imo i'd put crunch over shadow claw on ursaring, no illegalities :D

First off, let me preface this post by saying I'm not very experienced in NU, but I noticed you weren't happy with your Rhydon set, and I was curious if you've considered a bulky Rapid Spinner / SR Armaldo lead. Rock/Bug is arguably better typing than Rock/Ground, allowing Armaldo to lose the 4x weak to Grass and 4x weak to Water, both of which were a huge pain in the ass for Rhydon. Armaldo is decently bulky by NU standards with base 75/100/80 defenses, and can run an effective support / lead set in NU. Something like:

Armaldo (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Battle Armor
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Adamant / Impish nature (+Atk/Def, -SAtk)
- Stone Edge
- X-Scissor / Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Rapid Spin

Armaldo is one of the top 6 leads for good reason. He deals with the top 5 leads very well (bar Smeargle), arguably deserving a higher place. The top 5 leads according to November usage are Mesprit, Scolipede, Smeargle, Snover, and Pinsir. Armaldo threatens Mesprit with STAB X-Scissor, deals with Smeargle differently depending on the set (Lum Berry is a possibility for Spore users), threatens Scolipede with STAB super effective Stone Edge; the same goes for Snover and Pinsir. Also, considering a crucial member of your defensive core is weak to Stealth Rocks, as well as your main Tangela check(s), a spinner would be a boon to your team.

Try it out.

Just wanted to say that Impish Nature on Tangela is dumb, since your attacking move is a Special Attack, and Crunch is a much better option on Ursaring instead of Shadow Claw, meaning that Swellows can't get a free switch in. Crunch is also stronger...

Otherwise I have a custum EV's spread that I've been using on my Team, (read the Thread: Competetive NU!) and I really think that you can use that set on your Magneton :)
