In Gen VII, Game Freak introduced us to the concept of 'regional variants'. Pokemon that are mostly the same species, but have slightly different stat distributions, abilities and typing that suit the way that they have adapted to their region.
If they had come up with this concept back in the older generations, which pokemon do you think would be variants?
For instance Beartic and Cubchoo might be an Unovan Teddiursa and Ursaring. TBH a lot of Gen V pokemon could be variants.
Those Pikablu rumours might have been closer to the mark, if they had made a Johtonian Pikachu instead of the marill line line.
