Whimsicott has a small niche in UU thanks to its usefulness as an anti-hyper offense Pokemon with Prankster Encore, being a great stop to Pokemon like Polteageist and Barbaracle. Its typing also allows it to act as a decent check to threats like Choice Band Pangoro and Rotom-W, although it must watch out for Iron Head from the former. Unfortunately, compared to other Grass- and Fairy-types like Celebi and Sylveon, it is rather passive and reliant on U-turn and Knock Off to not offer constant free switches. U-turn in particular allows Whimsicott to maintain momentum against its many common switch-ins like Escavalier, Bronzong, and Roserade, while Knock Off is the preferred option in the last moveslot, allowing it to further punish such Pokemon on switch-in and making them unable to reliably pivot into Whimsicott as consistently. Energy Ball is an option that allows Whimsicott to put more pressure on Rotom-W, check Barbaracle if it does not use Shell Smash, and OHKO Inteleon, however this leaves Whimsicott unable to deal with Escavalier and Roserade. Giga Drain can also be run instead of Energy Ball to provide more longevity, but has the same issues and cannot OHKO Inteleon. On teams lacking any entry hazard removers, Whimsicott can optionally choose to run Defog, but it struggles with common entry hazard setters like Roserade, Bronzong, and Gigalith. 208 Speed EVs with a Timid Nature ensure that Whimsicott can outspeed Pokemon such as Heliolisk, Cobalion, and Espeon, while 204 SpA EVs with a Pixie Plate enable Whimsicott to OHKO Flygon. The remaining EVs are put into HP to better enable Whimsicott to check Rotom-W. Leftovers can be run instead to provide more longevity, but this makes Whimsicott even more passive and unable to OHKO Flygon from full.

Whimsicott fits on more offensive teams that have difficulty dealing with set up sweeper like Barbaracle, and appreciate a pivot into Rotom-W. Teammates that can pressure Steel-types like Escavalier, Bronzong, and Copperajah are very important, wallbreakers like Swords Dance Incineroar, Pangoro, and Machamp are nice options, and appreciate being brought in on them with U-turn; the latter two also appreciate being brought in on Gigalith. Incineroar can also check Chandelure, which Whimsicott appreciates, and it return can pivot into Rotom-W for Incineroar. Whimsicott struggles with and lets in common entry hazard setters like Gigalith and Roserade, which can hinder its ability to check Rotom-W, so it appreciates hazard removal support from teammates like Blastoise and Noivern. Blastoise can also help to check Darmanitan for Whimsicott, while Noivern can help to pressure Escavalier and Roserade that Whimsicott brings in with U-turn. Gigalith and Rhyperior are useful teammates, being able to check Noivern and Incineroar for Whimsicott, and setting Stealth Rock to chip its switch ins like Escavalier; Gigalith can also help to check Chandelure. Copperajah and Escavalier can switch into Roserade for Whimsicott, and pressure other switch-ins like Rhyperior and Gigalith; Copperajah can also provide Stealth Rock and help to check Noivern. Both greatly appreciate Whimsicott pivoting into Rotom-W for them.

Unfortunately, compared to other Grass- and Fairy-types like Celebi and Sylveon, it is rather passive and reliant on U-turn and Knock Off to not offer constant free switches. mention somewhere in this paragraph how it absolutely SUCKS to be a fairy that can't check noivern bc that's a huuuuge reason to not run whimsi

mention other water types here too, im not gonna go through every example but as of rn you just say it pivots into rotom - it's a decent pivot into milotic and vaporeon too, and the less relevant ones like mantine and jelli
