ORAS UU Whispers in the Dark: First UU Team

So this is my first serious UU team so please go easy one me :D. Im sort of unfamiliar with the threats present. Its based around the defensive core I like to call Whispers in the Dark, which consists of Dusclops and Umbreon
roserade.png

Byakuya (Roserade) (M) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Toxic Spikes
- Extrasensory
- Sludge Bomb
- Giga Drain

Roserade's main purpose it to patch up Darmanitan's weakness to bulky water and ground types, and it also functions as an effective counter to faries. It is also a potent special sweeper and can set up toxic spikes which hampers stall and puts a timer on anything that wants to switch in.

umbreon.png

Zenith (Umbreon) @ Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Wish
- Protect
- Payback
- Heal Bell

The first part of my defensive core, Umbreon is a fantastic special wall that acts as a cleric/support to my team and punishes those who would attack it with status. Combined with Toxic Spikes from Roserade and Umbreon is very good at stalling out specially offensive mons. Unfortunally it has a weakness to fighting types and U-Turn

dusclops.png

Spectre (Dusclops) @ Eviolite
Ability: Pressure
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 124 Def / 132 SpD
Impish Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Will-O-Wisp
- Siesmic Toss
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

The second part of my defensive core, Evolite Dusclops loves to both switch into those fighting type attacks and U-Turns that hamper Umbreon, then burn whatever it can. It has the unfortunate weakness of being unable to heal without rest, but Umbreon helps this by throwing wishes its way.

darmanitan.png

Son Goku (Darmanitan) @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Flare Blitz
- U-turn
- Rock Slide
- Superpower

Pretty standard Darmanitan build, which occasionally pops up in OU. Sheer Force+Life Orb make it a force to be rekoned with. This thing can demolish most pokemon and fits my role as primary physical sweeper, but gets walled by Bulky water types like Milotic, Swampert, Slowking, Suicune and Vaporeon, which is why I have the Roserade and Empoleon to mitigatae their threat

aerodactyl-mega.png

Terrordactyl (Aerodactyl-Mega) @ Aerodactylite
Ability: Tough Claws
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stone Edge
- Aqua Tail
- Wing Attack
- Roost

Arguably one of the best Megas in UU, Mega Aerodactly is a scary physical sweeper. It takes out grass types and flying types with ease because of its amazing speed stat and has Aqua Tail to clear out bulky ground types.

empoleon.png

Napoleon (Empoleon) @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 212 HP / 252 SpA / 44 Spe
Modest Nature
- Scald
- Flash Cannon
- Defog
- Stealth Rock

Basically here to finish of a Fire/Water/Grass core that I am so very fond of, Empoleon is my defogger as it resistes both stealth rocks and is completely immune to toxic spikes. It also pressures Slowking with knock off and can knock off a leftovers from a Suicune, Milotic or Vaporeon, which are issues for my Darmanitan. It is also one of my two means of checking faries

SpDef Rose is mediocre in this meta. Being outsped by Gyarados, Mamo, Heracross, Chandelure is awful, and without SpA investment you actually struggle to break the bulky Waters Rose is supposed to check. Anything with some semblance of special bulk and takes neutral damage from Rose's coverage can switch in with ease (think Defog Emp) and proceed to utilize free turns. Max SpA and Speed with a Timid Nature and LO is a must for those reasons. Even though you miss out on living some hits, the current spread leaves us with very little options to do anything meaningful back besides set up T-Spikes. Speaking of which, Spikes > T-Spikes is another must change since they are just sooo much more consistent and deadlier with the tier's lack of decent hazard removal. Spikes are also incredible for Aero, who's checks are all grounded sans Bronzong. A single layer puts things like Pert and Suicune under pressure (no pun intended ho ho ho) so Aero can just lay waste to the enemy team.

Your moveset could be improved. Leaf Storm > Extrasensory so you can beat +1 Suicunes and have a nice nuke to fire off when you have bulky threats like Nidoqueen staring you down and to put a big dent in some Steel-type switch-ins like Doublade or Coba. Extrasensory only really hits Crobat which is eaten by M-Aero.

To maximize the synergy with Spikes Rose, run Hone Claws > Roost. This gives you a wincon the team needs that easily cleans after its checks are whittled by Spikes. Another nice thing is that most of Aero's checks are Roserade fodder (every bulky Water ever), giving you multiple opportunities to lure them in with Aero and Spike up.

To be blunt, Dusclops is bad in UU. With Knock Off being one of the best moves in the game, you aren't switching into any Fighting-types, but a Spinblocker would still be nice to prevent annoying Forrys from ruining your hard work. Thus, SubCM Chandelure > Dusclops is a good change to make. It serves as a decent Cobalion check which wants to come in a lot on Umbreon and M-Aero and abuses Forry moreso than any other mon in the tier. Spikes + Candle makes stall matchups a joke while still giving a great option vs balance with the rise of Sylveon (complete set up fodder if defensive, and Hyper Voice doesn't even do damage to the sub!).

Chandelure @ Leftovers
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Substitute
- Calm Mind
- Flamethrower/Fire Blast
- Shadow Ball

Flame Body because you'd hate to be hardwalled by Trace Porygon2s, and also burning stuff like a U-Turning Hydreigon is hilarious lol.

With Chandy, having two Fires is a bit redundant and stacks too many weaknesses. Although Chandy is an OK check, it straight up dies to Stone Edge Cobalion which gets free set up against Umbreon, Rose, and M-Aero. You definitely need more counterplay and a sturdier Fighting/Fire check, so try Slowking > Darm. It's one of the best partners for Umbreon in a defensive core since it checks all the Fighting types not named Heracross while Umbreon soft checks Electrics and switches decently into Dark types in M-Sharpedo and Krookodile. Here's the set:

Slowking @ Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Slack Off
- Dragon Tail
- Psyshock

Dragon Tail is so that you mitigate free switchins from Drei and Electrics, which are some of the team's biggest threats right now while also giving the team a method of phazing to rack up hazard damage. Also it stops CM Psychics and Curselax from getting out of hand early game

197.png

Foul Play > Payback is a must. Payback does zero damage and Foul Play is a godsend to mitigate passivity from really bad Attack set and punish set up sweepers from DDing or SDing on Umbreon.

395.png

Shuca Berry > Leftovers so things like Mega Pert and Mamoswine don't get a free kill if they come in on Empo and Ice Beam > Flash Cannon to emergency check DD Mence while also dealing good damage to Hydrei and KOing Sceptile, two threats to the team since they can break Umbreon.

Hope I helped! I'm still uncomfortable with how the team can beat CM Psychics, if they are too much trouble you can try running Taunt on Umbreon with T-Wave support from Slowking so you can outspeed Cress and beat it 1v1. Taunt Umby can run Moonlight and still serve as a cleric, or if you still want WishPass, then Wish+Moonlight with Taunt over Heal Bell can work.

Thanks for the rate. Im definitely enjoying the Roserade and Empoleon sets over the old ones. However I don't think CM/Sub Chando really works on my team. How do you think Jellicent or Cofarigus would work out in place of dusclops? Or straight up swapping Clops for Slowking

Jelly can work, but you don't wanna run it with Slowking due to too much overlap between their roles. So you can run something like CB Ape with Mach Punch for an offensive check to Hydreigon and to retain something similar to the original team with a physical Fire. Although CM Cress would still be a problem since it outspeeds Jelly. Maybe a Dread Plate Krook with Taunt and SR can serve as the team's needed Electric check and Emp can replace SR with coverage like Grass Knot or Toxic (note that this doesn't help much with LO Drei but you definitely have ways to beat it).
