White Knight Chronicles [PS3 Exclusive JRPG]

Hey guys! I'm planning on getting a game called White Knight Chronicles for my PS3, and I was wondering if anyone else was getting it. Its made by Level-5 which is a pretty good and independent video game development company so we can expect a lot of good things out of it (they also created other great games like Dragon Age 8 and Jeanne de Arc) and it looks AMAZING.

There's also an online section of the game which is pretty much why I made this thread in the first place. xD You have to make a GeoNet account first, though, but that shouldn't be a problem since all of you SHOULD have internet if you're reading this and I would love to make friends online before the game actually comes out.

Here's the Wiki page and some Youtube videos:

I was really thinking of getting it, but it's coming out at a very bad time. I think the release date is at the end of this month which puts it a week before Bioshock 2 which I'm completely committed to buying and playing the crap out of. Seeing as I haven't even started my copy of Valkyria Chronicles yet (going to finish Lost Odyssey first), I think I have enough on my plate until March's release of Final Fantasy XIII. I don't generally like playing more than one jRPG at a time.

I know, right? There are so many good games coming out in the next couple of months. And the past 8 or so months there was like... NOTHING to do. D:

Star Ocean 4, Final Fantasy 13, Monster Hunter Tri, White Knight Chronicles, Pokemon HG/SS, etc. I seriously don't know which one to pick first.

But I'm really planning on getting WKC first because I think its the only one worth the $60. I expect Star Ocean 4 to hit the used section shelves pretty soon and FF, too. White Knight isn't really advertised as much so I'm guessing I should get it first (plus, I want a really cool online name ^^;).

If you get it, Firestorm, make sure to add me to your friends list!

I don't know, the storyline looks pretty weak, and given most JRPGs play like a storybook, the story is the only real source of enjoyment and distinction for JRPGs for me.

The battle system is the most enjoyable part of most jRPGs to me. In this case, it seems interesting with the online element but I asked around and most of my friends don't seem to be getting it so it loses a bit of its lustre for me.

Mmm well most JRPGs have like... the same storyline. o.O;;

The main character is always some guy with a sword and there's always the side female character that has either a bow or healing/magic and the guys rival (who also has a sword) who is supposed to be their friend but decides not to fight with them, etc. :P

Well the battle system is kind of slow and I think that's the part that kills it for most people. Do you suggest getting this first or Star Ocean?

I've never played WKC so I can't comment on the battle system or anything. Star Ocean has a fun battle system but the absolute worst characters and storyline. Horrible voicework and the script is disgusting.

If I have the money I'll get it. I mean I've been saving for a laptop and the fact that so many good games are coming out soon is breakin' my balls. Heavy Rain, White Knight Chronicles, and even Final Fantasy XIII coming in March (though there seems to be quite a lot of bitching about it).

The older Star Ocean games had good story/characters.

@Kristy: You clearly haven't playing the right JRPGs. :P

I played the first two Star Oceans. They had very cliche storylines. What jRPG does have a very different story anyway? They do seem to mostly fall along the lines of what Kristy said.

I know... I forgot about Heavy Rain. Looks a bit creepy (I definitely won't be playing it alone) but also pretty good. Too many games. >_<;

What do you suggest? xD

Hmm this game looks interesting, I will definitely look into it as I love JRPG's.

As for Star Ocean 4, it is ok, but not nearly as good as SO:TTeoT. I keep playing it on and off and haven't got very far yet as it can't keep my interest for long.

I do agree that most JRPG's fall along the lines Kristy said too. Anything by Square Enix most definitely does, all the way back to FF2.

A good one that is somewhat different storyline wise from that, and different in a few other ways, is Enchanted Arms, which is a great RPG.

Looks good. I like the online feature, but FF XIII comes out a month later. There is no way to finish White Knight before FF comes out.
