Who Needs Weather? (BW2 Non-Weather Hyper Offense)

WHO NEEDS WEATHER?

Hello everyone… this is fatsnorlax. It’s been awhile since I posted a RMT, and I figured I liked this one. Now, I was thinking, and then it hit me… non weather is harder to pull off than a weather team because weather has the boost in power. I threw this together… it is fast enough to rival the pace of weather hyper-offense, strong enough to break stall, and just an all around good team. It has a Volt-Turn core (yeah, I know… totally unique), some wallbreakers, and some Pokes to clean up the mess… meet Who Needs Weather?!

Latios @ Expert Belt
Levitate
Timid Nature
4hp/252Satk/252spd
-Draco Meteor
-Thunderbolt
-Hidden Power [Fire]
-Recover

Latios was recommended as a replacement for Salamence to solve a little rain problem. That being said, Latios trumps Volt-Turn statagies as well using its moves and stats. Boasting a 130 Satk and 110 spd, Latios can tear holes in unprepared teams.

Draco Meteor is Latios's first attack, and what an attack it is! With 210 power factoring STAB and coming off of an enormous special attack, those that don't resist it will be pulverized. It is the sheer power of this Draco Meteor that got Latios nominated for Uber time and time again before the metagame could adjust to it. Thunderbolt fries water types such as Keldeo, Politoad, and Jellicent while Hidden Power kills Steels (most notably Scizor). Recover lets Latios last longer and lets it better check some threats.

Through and through, Latios is a hugely threatening Pokemon and a welcome addition to this team.

Rotom-W @ Choice Scarf
Levitate
Timid Nature
4hp/ 252Satk/ 252spd
-Hydro Pump
-Volt Switch
-Hidden Power [Fire]
-Thunderbolt

Remember my totally original idea of a Volt-Turn combo… well, this is part one, Rotom! Rotom is a useful little Pokemon to have, using its speed and moves to take on a variety of Pokemon including Tornadus-T, Thundurus-T and more. One weakness and a nice ground immunity give Rotom decent bulk, allowing it to take on more threats than if it didn’t have its typing, most notably Scizor. It makes a nice scout with Volt Switch and can cause headaches for some teams.

The movest is for the most part straightforward. Hydro Pump is a crazy good STAB killing Gliscor, Landorus, and Thundurus-T under the rain. Thunderbolt is a secondary STAB for when I feel like killing something and Volt Switch is for scouting. Hidden Power [Fire] surprises Ferrothorn switch ins and torches several other notable steels. Volt-Turn can put the hurt on many teams, and Rotom is a good part of it.

mamoswine.png

Mamoswine @ Life Orb
Thick Fat
Jolly Nature
4hp/ 252atk/ 252spd
-Ice Shard
-Icicle Crash
-Earthquake
-Superpower

Mamoswine started out as a Stealth Rocker, but quickly proved to mean much more than that. Simply put, Mamoswine is a monster, who’s sheer STAB coverage and powe make a lot of teams quiver. Jolly lets Mamo revenge kill things like Toxicroak and Breloom that could otherwise threaten this team.

Mamoswine’s moves are all standard for ummmmm Mamoswines. Ice Shard is wonderful, and revenges many of the top threats in the tier including Landorus (not T), Gliscor, Dragonite, Thundurus-T, Tornadus-T, Tornadus, Salamence, Breloom who think they can live, and much more. Earthquake is a nice stab, hitting a ton of Pokemon with 150 power, easily tearing holes in any team. Icicle Crash gives Mamo a better Ice STAB than Ice Fang, and Superpower takes out Ferrothorns expecting otherwise.

Mamoswine… such a beast.

726-1.png

Scizor @ Choice Band
Technician
Adamant Nature
252hp/40atk/216Sdef
-Bullet Punch
-U-Turn
-Superpower
-Pursuit

It seems that with every OU team I build, Scizor has some sort of purpose. Nice bulk, typing, and power make it my Latios counter of choice. Scizor is also able to take out a wide range of threats like Mamoswine, Reuniclus, Alakazam, Espeon, and more. The EVs give Scizor plenty of bulk and a nice 504 attack with a Choice Band.
Scizor’s movest is standard. Bullet Punch is a crazy good form of priority, taking on several dangerous Pokemon. U-Turn kills Psychics and dents just about anything that doesn’t resist it, all while scouting and annoying people with Volt-Turn between this guy and Rotom. Superpower kills steels that could switch in on this set and pursuit kills Pokemon *cough* Latios *cough* that try to flee.

Scizor is a great Pokemon, and is at the top of the tier for a good reason.

98-2.png

Forretress @ Leftovers
Sturdy
Careful Nature
252hp/120def/136Sdef
-Stealth Rock
-Rapid Spin
-Volt Switch
-Pain Split

I originally had Starmie in this spot with Mamoswine as a Stealth Rocker, but I decided I needed a more dedicated Rocker. Forretress does just that, but it also spins and Volt Switches away once it has done its duty, differentiating itself from Ferrothorn. Forretress has acceptable bulk, and does what it has to do at the pace this team wants.

Forretress’s movest has some changes from the standard. Stealth Rock is used over Spikes because Spikes is too slow for this team and Stealth Rock is better anyway. Rapid Spin gets rid of hazards, helping Salamence, Scizor, and Rotom out with their frequent switching. Volt Switch means Forretress has a quick way to leave once it has done its job, and lets it keep up with the team. Pain Split is a semi reliable form of recovery that mean Forretress can actually do some damage.

Forretress Rocks and Spins.

1155-1.png

Terrakion @ Choice Band
Justified
Jolly Nature
4hp/ 252atk/ 252spd
-Close Combat
-Stone Edge
-X-Scissor
-Quick Attack

Here’s a guy that’s shot up in usage in the last few months… and for a good reason too. Terrakion’s STAB combo, 129 attack, 108 speed, decent bulk, and 4x resistance to Stealth Rock all make it stand out. Terrakion can either clean up the mess my other Pokemon have created or start one of its own by bashing some walls.

The movest is actually pretty standard. Close Combat is Terrakion’s main STAB and destroys a huge portion of the metagame with a measly -1 in both defenses as a drawback. Stone Edge is the other half of the STAB pair, and this one also destroys what it touches 90% of the time. It 2HKOs Gliscor and bypasses what Close Combat might not. X-Scissor hits Psychic Pokemon a little harder than Stone Edge can and has better accuracy. Quick Attack can kill a weakened Pokemon that Terrakion would be outsped or speed tied by and not be able to take a hit.

All and all, Terrakion is a monster… easy to use and just as easy to decimate teams with.

Conclusion
Well, there's the team. I hope you enjoyed it. Feel free to rate/hate/steal/whatever.

Hi! Very nice team.

VoltTurn seems to be a problem for your team, especially since you have no Electric-type resists on your team aside from Mamoswine, who dies to Rotom-W's Hydro Pump, while Rotom-W resists Ice Shard, Icicle Crash and is immune to Earthquake. To fix this problem, I would recommend a Bulk Up Breloom instead of Terrakion. Bulk Up Breloom helps dealing with Scizor and Rotom-W, thanks to its nice bulk which accentuates after a few Bulk Up boosts. It resists Rotom-W's STABs, and is hard to take down due to Poison Heal's recovery. It also cannot be affected by status moves due to Breloom always being poisoned and getting healed, and it can also use Spore to incapacitate an opposing Pokemon, giving it time to set up. Drain Punch is a STAB allowing it to heal, while Seed Bomb is another STAB that hits Rotom-W and Gastrodon hard. The EVs grant maximum Poison Heal recovery. Finally, I would change Mamoswine's nature from Snow Cloak to Thick Fat. Snow Cloak is useless, and Hail is rarely found in this new BW2 metagame. Thick Fat reduces in half Ice and Fire-type moves directed towards Mamoswine, which is very helpful. The Breloom set can be found below. Cool team, and good luck!

Hello,

I second changing mamoswines ability to thick fat since this isn't a hail team. Also I second changing to breloom but bulk up is to slow. I would go with techniloom instead. A one turn setup + technician boosted priority stab would pretty much be gg should they not have an answer to it. I would use seed bomb in place of bullet seed just for consistency however it is your call on that.

Hi

It looks like some popular Rain pokemon, such as Rotom-W and Choice Specs Keldeo, can really give you a lot of trouble. With their powerful rain boosted Hydro Pumps they can tear through pretty much everything on your team considering your only Water resists, Rotom-W and Salamence, are slower and take a ton of damage from even a resisted Hydro Pump. Keldeo gets in easily against a weak resisted move like Scizor's Bullet Punch or Mamoswine's Ice Shard and can start firing Hydro Pump without really thinking, and maybe switch out everytime Rotom comes in. Substitute+CM Keldeo could be much more of an issue since that way it can kill Rotom with Mystery Sword without fearing it revenge killing. Everytime it comes in you're pretty much guarenteed to lose a pokémon. To me, this team's problem is Salamence. While MixMence is cool and all it doesn't really fit this team, as Terrakion is probably better at breaking walls (it can beat a lot that Salamence can, and this, with much better speed!) and stuff stuff like Gliscor just call for Mamoswine/Rotom-W to switch in. I think Life Orb Latios would fit your team much better than Salamence, because it has a lot better special bulk which means it can take Hydro Pumps, it can Recover the damage, it outspeeds Keldeo and resists its secondary STAB. It can also hit it hard with Psyshock, even the CM set which can be so problematic. Latios has similar defensive synergy as Salamence so you're not losing much on that point, except maybe the Pursuit weakness that can be a pain. Like Expert Physics said, your team is relatively weak to VoltTurn which is probably the dominant playstyle in OU at the moment, and Latios with HP Fire can be a great asset against it.

I also really don't see why you're running Explosion on Forretress, as the only thing you risk OHKOing in OU is Alakazam. I personally think it's a waste of moveslot and you should be running something much more useful -like Pain Split or Spikes- instead of a really weak suicide option. If anything this could harm your team as Forry has great defenses and can take a Draco Meteor or an Outrage.

Here's the Latios set you should be running:
Latios @ Life Orb
Levitate
Timid
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
-Draco Meteor
-Psyshock
-Hidden Power Fire
-Recover

Good luck!

Hi there, I back up Jirachi´s recommendation but I would use Expert Belt instead of Life Orb for various reasons. First, with an Expert Belt Latios can fool any player by mimicking a Choice set and pokemons like Scizor expecting to Pursuit Latios after a -2 Sp.Atk drop will be ravaged by Hidden Power Fire. Also Expert Belt doesnt not forces Latios to constantly lose HP, where Sand damage and Volt-Turn could wear him down. If you plan to run Expert Belt, you might want to run Thunderbolt over Psyshock as Dragon + Fire + Psychic has an awful coverage. Thunderbolt still hits Keldeo super-effectively where it still 2HKOs him even after a single CM boost [252 SpAtk Expert Belt Latios Thunderbolt vs 4 HP/0 +1 SpDef Keldeo: 56,17% - 66,67% (2 hits to KO)], and hitting harder omniprescent Water-types like Politoed and Jellicent. Hope this rate helps and good luck.

Jolly > Adamant on Mamo IMO to stop Toxicroak from sweeping. Volc also kills this entire team at +1 with Fire Blast, Bug Buzz, Giga Drain; thus I'd recommend changing to Scarf Terrakion. This may leave you weaker to stall, however, but I have few good suggestions in this regard.

I'm interested, because I'd rather be Volcarona weak than Stall weak. As of right now, I might have to play around it. Make sure rocks are up and do something like EQ it with Mamo when it expects a switch. It is also notable that if it has LO, I can kill it with Terrakion's Quick Attack after two non Giga Drain attacks.
EDIT: Will try Jolly on Mamo.

Hi! I have a couple of changes I would recommend. I think Latios would appreciate having Surf instead of Recover, since it allows it to get past Heatran with more ease, and can 2HKO Tyranitar (with Stealth Rock!). Finally, I'd change Scizor's EV spread from 252 HP / 16 Atk / 240 SpD to 252 HP / 40 Atk / 216 SpD. 216 SpD EVs gives Scizor just enough bulk to live 2 Focus Blasts from Virizion and Reuniclus, while placing the remainder of the EVs in Attack, giving Scizor a numerical attack stat of 341, for more power than the EV spread you are currently using. Finally, I'd recommend Earthquake over Quick Attack on Terrakion to beat Jirachi and Toxicroak with more ease. Just some thoughts.

Love the suggestions of Scizor spread, surf, and perhaps Rotom (I use Mamo 2 kill Genies). CS Terrakion would leave me weak Skarmbliss as I would no longer have a Pokemon that could single handedly kill the combination. It would help against Volcarona though, so I'd like some feedback on the decision. Otherwise, I'll be testing improved Latios and Scizor.

I don't think you have the room to be dropping Recover on Latios. If your opponent has a Specs Keldeo, all they need to do is predict your switch in and 2HKO you with Icy Wind, and it's pretty much game from there. Latios is already a shaky check, but in my opinion you absolutely cannot afford to lose Recover. Surf can be useful, but if you really want it it goes over Thunderbolt more than anything else.

At the moment, without the Scarf Terrakion change, the only thing you can really do about Volc is put Focus Sash on Mamo, and give it Stone Edge. This is obviously highly unreliable but I don't see much else that you can do. This is probably one of the most important threats you need to address, though, as Volc sets up quite easily on this team. I can't think of any particularly unobtrusive changes but I feel like you're making use of Scrotom just for the sake of it; perhaps there is room there for change.

@ Earthduster if Keldeo is 2HKOing me with Icy Wind, Latios will already be slower than it and Recover will be useless. I havn't run into Volcarona yet, but when I do there will be no room for error. Rotom-W realiably kills Starmie, Scarf Politoad etc.

Recover is for insurance against the likes of CM Keldeo. It'll keep you healthy throughout the game so you can at least check it. Since your team pretty much depends on Latios for a lot of key resistances, Rocks + Sand + random attacks is going to wear you down far too much. Though, it's your team, it's up to you if you don't want any protection against a very common and very dangerous threat.

I don't understand the need for draco meteor with expert belt latios. Expert belt won't boost your draco meteor and unless it guarantees a few ko's with t-bolt or HP fire on important targets I don't see it really being better than specs or life orb.

Life orb is great combined with recover. specs is just crazy power. If you are using expert belt just for the fake specs then a dragon fang may be viable, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Expert Belt allows for choice bluff (as you said, but is not as single purposed as Dragon Fang) and doesn't wear Latios down, allowing for a long sweep.

Hey I really like your team but I was still wondering how do u counter rain teams?
A choice banded empoleon can destroy ur last 4 pokemons with surf if its raining.
If rotom-W and latios r taken out what do you plan on doing? Am just thinking maybe u should give a focus sash to ur terakion so it'll at least land one hit and with its enormous attack probably take out a pokemon.

@DaveScottMustaine-CB Terrakion gives me a Poke that can reliably break Skarmbliss.
@Rainteams-Latios can take on most sweepers... as can Rotom. If I am careless enough to loose both, Terrakion/Mamoswine can mop up.
