Hey everybody ! Let me tell you a story about this team that I want to improve !
First, if there is some grammatical mistakes in this RMT, I'm sorry for that =(
I consider myself as a noob at teambuilding, everytime I make a team I get swept ... I have some wins with this team so I want some help to improve it and learn some tips about the art of teambuilding ;)
--- At a glance ---
--- Building Process ---
This team has a story behind it. I wake up this morning and I was under the impression that Lightningrod Zapdos was released. I was thinking about it and an idea pops in my head "A specially defensive set of Linghtningrod Zapdos will check the two rain genies". So i decided to create a team on the paper with this Zapdos.
Zapdos is weak against Ice and Rock, and Stealth Rock annoys him. Always thinking that Zapdos has Lightningrod, Tentacruel was the ideal partner : resisting Ice, spinning away those rocks and Lightningrod Zapdos immune to Ground and Electric. Moreover, Toxik Spikes can be good with my specially defensive Zapdos with Substitute and Roost.
To complete this two guys, I need another guy which can resist Psychic moves aiming Tentacruel, set up Stealth Rock and also resisting powerful Dragon type attacks. Ferrothorn does the job quite well and feels secure from Fire and Fighting moves with the help of these two guys. Here comes Ferrothorn.
Then I realise that I can benefit from the Rain. So i decided to put Politoed on the team.
At this moment, I began to think about the offensive. I was looking for a sweeper that can give me a nice sweep as well as dealing with Sun teams. DD Dragonite with Lum Berry can do this job.
Finally, I need a Pokemon that can do damages to Ferrothorn because he's a huge problem to my team. I will not run a Fire move in the rain obviously, so I have to think about a Fighting type. I was hesitating between Bulk Up Breloom and Bulk Up Conkeldurr. Having one grass pokemon by the form of Ferrothorn, I decided to put Conkeldurr in the last slot.
Then I remembered one thing : Toxicroak. He can benefit from the rain, set up on things with Substitute and Bulk Up and be a pain to kill with Dry Skin + Black Sludge + Drain Punch. Toxicroak, welcome to the team !
My team ready to fight, I went on PO and ... WTF this thing hasn't Lightningrod !!! I decided to try this team anyway and I did better than usual, but I know this team isn't perfect at all. At this point, I'm stuck, so I ask you guys for help ;)
Then Shining Latios rated this team and give me some nices advices, he suggested a SD Scizor on Toxicroak because Latios, Reuniclus and other pokes that Scizor takes care of were threatening my team. Thanks Shining Latios and here comes Scizor !
--- The team ---
Politoed @ Leftovers
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Scald
- Hypnosis
- Perish Song
- Protect
Description : The standard defensive Politoed concerning EVs/Nature/Ability/Item. The moveset is a bit funky thought : instead of running Toxik, I decide to run Hypnosis. Two reasons for that choice : Toxik Spikes already do the job on non-levitating Pokemons and make a Pokemon asleep is a huge handicap thanks to sleep turn reset and give me opportunities to set up a Dragon Dance with Dragonite or a sub with Toxicroak/Zapdos on a sleepy thing. Perish Song and Protect are here to stop a Pokemon setting up.
Zapdos @ Leftovers
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 248 HP / 236 SDef / 24 Spd
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Thunder
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Substitute
- Roost
Description : This set is inspired by the UU Specially Defensive set. However, I run HP Ice over HP Flying just to take care of Thundurus-T and Dragon when I'm safe behind my sub. Thanks to Substitute and Roost, Zapdos can abuse the Toxik Spikes set up by Tentacruel. It does a great job against Tornadus-T. Maybe I should run Thunderbolt over Thunder to be less weak against Sun teams, I don't know ...
Tentacruel @ Leftovers
Trait: Rain Dish
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 16 Spd
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Rapid Spin
- Toxic Spikes
Description : My spinner. This is the standard set for Tentacruel. Spinning helps for my Zapdos and my Dragonite. My team likes T-Spikes a lot : Ferrothorn and Politoed have Protect, Zapdos has Substitute + Roost, Tentacruel has nice recovery in the Rain and Dragonite/Scizor finish the job with ExtremeSpeed/Bullet Punch. Scald is here for STAB and chances to burn and Ice Beam for Dragons.
Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 200 Def / 56 SDef
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Stealth Rock
- Leech Seed
- Protect
- Power Whip
Description : Stardard set too ! Ferrothorn is great ! How many times did I forget the Iron Barbs when a low health pokemon hits that derpy coconut =D Stealth Rock obviously, best move in the game. Protect to abuse Toxikstall and regain HP with Leech Seed. Power Whip is here just to hit things, don't know if Gyroball is better or not =/ The credits for the evs spread goes to emerinho, the goal is to make Ferrothorn a great Physical wall.
Dragonite @ Lum Berry
Trait: Multiscale
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Outrage
- Waterfall
- ExtremeSpeed
Description : This ! This is what you call a monster ! Nothing much to say : DD for setting up, Outrage for kill, Waterfall to abuse rain (credits goes to Shining Latios) and ExtremeSpeed to be sure that Dragonite outspeed things (Scarf Users that outspeed me, even at +1). Rapid Spin is good with this Dragonite because it allows me to keep my Multiscale and Lum Berry heals me if I get poisonned/burned/slept. The combinaison of Multiscale and Lum berry is great : if my opponent status me --> Lum Berry, if he attacks me --> Multiscale and I keep my Lum berry for an Outrage confusion ! If played correctly, I can get one DD for sure.
Scizor @ Life Orb
Trait: Technician EVs: 144 HP / 252 Atk / 108 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- Bullet Punch
- Superpower
- Bug Bite
Description : I used to run a Bulk Up Toxicroak on this slot. Scizor dropped #2 in the usage stats, but that doesn't mean that he's not good anymore. Techincian is a worderful ability, even more combined with a STAB priority move called Bullet Punch. The repart is quite simple : Adamant + 252 Attack EVs for boosting the offensive, 108 Speed evs to outspeed Heatran with 8 Speed EVs and the rest in HP for bulk. Scizor is design to late game sweep against weakened pokemons thanks to poison. The credits for this pokemon goes to Shining Latios.
--- Conclusion ---
Thank you for reading this, I hope you enjoy this RMT.
Please leave me some advices on how to improve this team. I need it to be better at team building and hope you guys can help me. I accept all changes of pokemons/sets but they must be justified, that will help me a lot =D
Looking at it (and after some tests), it seems that I have a weakeness against Latios (I have to wear him down where a Sucker Punch will kill it), Sub CM Jirachi and ... I don't know ^^' I count on you ;)
Thanks !
