My friend and I are shooting for the VGCs next year so we've been trying to figure out what team would be most successful and this one has come out on top by far. It focuses around Terrakion, boosting him up and sweeping, but can handle itself if he goes down. Sp far it has been very successful on PO and when executed perfectly, sweeps teams in 4 turns.

Whimsicott (F) @ Focus Sash
Trait: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Tailwind
- Beat Up
- Taunt
- Worry Seed
My first, and best support pokemon for Terrakion is Whimsicott. First, he sets up Tailwind while Terrakion protects, then he uses Beat Up to activate Justified and max out Terrakion's attack. The other 2 moves are open for discussion. Taunt helps take care of Subs and Trick Roomers which relly give mye a problem if I don't play them correctly. Worry Seed eliminates abilities like Levitate, Guts, Poison Heal and Prankster. Other options I've considered are Encore, Helping Hand, Stun Spore, Charm, and Endeavor.
Terrakion @ Leftovers
Trait: Justified
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Protect
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Close Combat
The main sweeper of the team. While at first, neitehr his 129 base attack nor his 108 base speed are spectacular, once they're boosted, he's unstoppable. Like I said before, protect to set up tailwind and then attack away mostly with EQ and Rock Slide. I rarely use Close Combat only because it doesn't hit both pokemon. I made him Adamant so Charizard can outspeed him (which I'll explain in a minute) but the problem with that is Jolly Terrakion can outspeed him outside of tailwind. As a result, I make tailwind a very high priority to get up. I tried Life Orb, but it didn't really give me any extra KOs that Leftover misses out on.
Charizard (F) @ Focus Sash
Trait: Blaze
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Beat Up
- Heat Wave
- Air Slash
- Tailwind
After getting banished to NU last gen, the fan favorite Charizard makes a comeback as a back up supporter on my team. In the case that Whimsicott faints on the turn it sets up tailwind, Charizard is right to take his place. He can use Beat up as well, activating Justified, and boosting Terrakion to +5 instead of +6 (i know, a real tragedy). Then he can also set up tailwind in case it runs out, is immune to EQ, and can do some significant damage on his own with Heat wave and Air Slash. Obviously any other special attacks can fall in there as well, but the STABs work the best in my opinion, taking care of Steels and bugs along with Terrakion.
Aerodactyl (F) @ Focus Sash
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Rock Slide
- Thunder Fang
- Tailwind
- Taunt
Admittedly, another rather unconventional supprt pokemon. Tailwind and Taunt are extremely inmportant to maintain my Terrakion's Sweep. Dactyl is faster than just about everything and then can even hit back hard with Rock Slide and Thunder Fang (for troubling waters). Only other options I can think of for him would be different physical attacks such as Crunch, Fire Fang, and Aqua tail for different threats.
Machamp (F) @ Lum Berry
Trait: No Guard
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- DynamicPunch
- Bullet Punch
- Ice Punch
- Stone Edge
These next 2 slots are awkward because I never have any idea what to put there. I basically fill them with any pokemon who's strong and effective. The one I'm using right now is a Machamp. Formerly a lead on a different team, this Machamp brings in the No Guard ability, which everything on the field to 100% accuracy, most notably Terrakion's Rock Slide and Thundurus's Focus Blast. Lum Berry cures any statuses that would hinder him and he actually outspeeds a lot of things i don't expect him to, and even more under tailwind.
Thundurus (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Prankster
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Thunderbolt
- Focus Blast
- Dark Pulse
- Hidden Power [Ice]
Also in an awkward position but rather effective. Immune to EQ, hits hard, hits fast, and has coverage. The problem I have with him is that he adds to my team's Ice and Rock weaknesses, which make me pee my pants when I see things like Weavile, Scrafty, and even Hariyama in team preview. I've considered utilizing prankster more and making aanother support guy but I haven't tried it yet. Maybe something focusing arounf T-ave, taunt, tailwind, and T-bolt?
Other pokemon I've rotated through those last 2 awkward slots are Extremespeed Dargonite, ParaFlinch Jirachi, Technician Scizor, Gengar, Extremespeed Lucario, and Eviolite Porygon 2. Which 2 would actually be best?
Things I have trouble with are:
1. Trick Room teams - i can taunt them to death, but if I don't see it coming and don't keep them taunted, then I have to stall out the Trick Room.
2. Poison heal Breloom - I can never tell what set it's running (SubSeed, SubPunch, or Spore) and they all scare the shit out of Terrakion. Charizard can OHKO him if he can get it soon enough, but they always give me trouble.
3. Multiple priority moves - Terrakion is weak to Vacuum Wave, Mach Punch, Aqua Jet, and Bullet Punch. he can take 1 if his HP is still decently high, but he gets into trouble if there's any more than that.
4. Focus Sashes - an important piece of this strategy is getting OHKOs. Somethign with a focus sash can take the hit from Terrakion and then hit back and KO him. maybe SR on Dactyl?
one more important thing is that this team is hopefully going to the VGCs this year which has an item clause so that means only 1 of these pokemon can get things like Focus Sash and Leftovers. Who should get them and who should get something else?
That's about it so tell me what you think and how I can improve. i really appreciate your help. :)
