ORAS OU WIP: The Double Trap

Hi Guys, played Pokemon for years but took a long break and have come back trying to find something that works. This team is the closest I've found, but it needs tweaking and hopefully you can help.

Lopunny was originally Mega-Heracross, but he wasn't doing his job properly and I felt I needed some speed and threat to offense. Lopunny has been disappointing though. I can't find the mega to fit in this team.

The idea was to have the double trap system to make it much, much easier to open holes and sweep. Wobbuffet is the kingpin really, regularly taking down 1-3 'mons per fight and is incredibly useful against offense. He's also my main way of beating Lando-T - something I'll get on to.

THE TEAM:

Lopunny

@Lopunnite
252 ATK, 252 SPE, 4 DEF
Jolly Nature
- Fake Out
- Return
- High Jump Kick
- Power-Up Punch
I've spoken about my reasons for picking Lopunny after Heracross and also M-Garde failed, and I'm not massively impressed. Lopunny seems to always disappoint in terms of power. I should probably change PuP to Ice Punch due to my issues with Lando-T and Gliscor, but other than that I don't know how to improve it. I might change for something else but like having a physical attacker to utilise 'Zone's ability to ruin Skarm and Ferro, as well as Scizor. Breloom and one other can clean up that way.

Wobbuffet
@ Custap Berry
248 HP, 252 Sp.Atk, 8 DEF
Calm Nature
- Destiny Bond
- Counter
- Mirror Coat
- Encore
Everyone knows what it does, but that doesn't mean you can stop it. Shadow Tag is amazing, and trapping revenge killers is his main role in this team. As it was originally built around Mega-Hera, this was meant to take down fast stuff for him. It does that superbly, which makes Breloom a threat. Custap+DBond is amazing for obvious reasons. Defeats Defensive Lando-T (a massive boon for this team with or without Hera) as well as Scarf variants that tie into EQ. That's handy, as I have no flyers.

Magnezone
@ Choice Scarf
Magnet Pull
252 Sp.Atk, 252 Spe, 4 Def
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- HP Fire
- Volt Switch
- Flash Cannon
Standard Magnezone set really. Hits 358 speed I think, which beats non-scarfed base 110's, including Mega Diancie, who is wrecked by Flash Cannon. Most importantly, though, he serves as a wonderful Ferro/Skarm/Scizor remover, which brings Breloom into the game. I feel maybe I should try and build around 'Loom as he's a massive threat paired with the double trap, so any idea on that would be nice. Everybody knows what he does, and yet somehow he can still do it.

Hoopa-U
@ Assault Vest
248 HP, 252 Sp.Atk, 8 Atk
Mild Nature
- Dark Pulse
- Psychic
- Focus Blast
- Gunk Shot

Before you shit on it, you have to try AV Hoopa-U. His bulk is unbelievable and offers an incredible check to Pokemon who usually threaten offense teams, like Starmie, Latios, Mega Manectric, Mega Alakazam and Gengar. With 252 Sp.Def he can survive the 2HKO from Char-Y in the sun. Even without LO, nothing wants to switch into Dark Pulse, and even if they don't mind, Gunk Shot or Psychic normally deals with them. Obviously he gets destroyed by a physical attack, which can put some pressure on the team, but his ability to check Latios and MegaMane is invaluable.

Garchomp
@ Rocky Helmet
Rough Skin
188 HP, 120 ATK, 200 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Stealth Rock
- EQ
- Dragon Tail
- Swords Dance
Along with Lopunny, Garchomp needs changing. The EV spread maybe? The moveset? Either way, he's been disappointing. I might go full defensive in order to punish TFlame and the like who threaten Hoopa and Loom. I've experimented with Starmie, as I currently lack SR removal (though with this team it's not vital) but also not enjoying Starmie. Little bit of help would be great.

Breloom
@ Fist Plate
Technician
252 Atk, 252 Spe, 4 Sp.Def
Jolly Nature
- Spore
- Mach Punch
- Bullet Seed
- Swords Dance
Been a bit of a monster ever since coming in. Great check to T-Tar and Excadrill, and can get off a Spore or SD and proceed to rip some holes in teams. Mach Punch has some awesome power with Technician and SD as well as STAB and Fist Plate. I may change to Adamant as I'm not sure what 262 Speed actually is handy for, and that extra power might be handy.

So there you have it! That's my team at the moment. I've had a few ideas, like maybe putting Mega Venu in instead of Lopunny and becoming a more defensive team, but worried about the double Grass type, which would give Talonflame wet dreams.

Any help is massively appreciated. I'll leave an importable so you can try out the Wobb/Zone/Loom core, as well as AV Hoopa-U and see what you think.

Hey,really nice team here i really like the idea of the double trap but i think it can be even more better

I think Defensive Garchomp is better on this team since it can check many powerfull attacker which can be annoying for your team like M-Gross,M-Lopunny and Hoopa-U ..
I noticed a huge weakness to Zard-X so common way to deal with it in offensive team : using Landorus-T or having a prankster user which can t-wave him.

I would change Wobbuffet and Magnezone to Gothitelle which can trapkill same mon as them but it take you only one spot on your team.
I don't like this Hoopa-U set/spread,since you have some problem with Garchomp/Landorus-T i recommend to use hidden power ice on him.
As i said it before, you still have problem with Zard-X and this is why i recommend to use Klefki(over Magnezone since you will remove him) since it have acces to Prankster which is a really good ability, paired with Spikes/Toxic/Thunder-Wave/Magnet Rise,
Run a Defensive Garchomp with a defensive spread, you have some problem with Talonflame now this is why you can try Stone Edge > Sword Dance
Breloom is not a solid ground resistence and you only have one 'check' to Keldeo(Klefki) and you loose to the Specs/LO set,i recommend Tornadus-T AV which will be able to switch on his STAB and KO him back with Hurricane,it can also check thing like Serperior which is really good.

Good luck with your team.

Hi! I noticed that you said you didn't like Mega Lopunny on the team. I have a suggestion for you that I hope would help make it better, and that is to use Mega Altaria. Mega Altaria has good synergy with your team, and highly appreciates Magnezone support getting rid of steel types for it, so it is one of the best megas you can use for this team. It also helps you check things like Serperior and Garchomp, which you don't really have much for at the moment.

However, although I know you built this around double trapping, I really think that Wobbuffet is overkill. You really only need Steel Types gone, and Magnezone does that very well. One trapper is typically enough to break through the counters to a team, and I do not think you need Wobbuffet, nor do I think it is very useful here (it used to help you check Keldeo, but having replaced your Mega with Mega Altaria, you already have a solid check). I suggest you change it for Choice Band Azumarill. Azumarill has excellent synergy with your team, being able to lure in steel types that Magnezone traps, and in case they are holding a Shed Shell, weaken them heavily. Azumarill also helps you check sand teams.

As for your sets, I would use the standard Tank Garchomp set. This allows you to set up Stealth Rock, as well as provides you an additional check to Gengar, which is pretty threatening to your team. I would also use LO Hoopa-U and LO Breloom, but you may have already tried those sets, so these are only suggested but not mandatory :)

I hope this helps you! I'm still trying to improve my rates, so if there's anything you feel could be improved, please tell me.

I definitely agree with the Mega Altaria suggestion, as it definitely helps your team out. But you could use an offensive DD set if you want:
Altaria @ Altarianite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Return
- Earthquake
- Roost / Fire Blast
You could also try Bisharp

-----> Weavile,

as you already have a Steel type and Weavile helps with Ground types.
