Hi all,
After struggling with Gen 6 for a few days, I've found a team that has met with pretty solid success on Showdown. The crux of it is the once-feared Wobbuffet; using its classic mechanics and combining them with the rest of the team, I've found myself getting sweep setups rather easily. Anyhow, here's how the team looks.
Genesect @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Download
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 Atk
Hasty Nature
- U-turn
- Ice Beam
- Flamethrower
- Iron Head
Genesect is here because, like in the BW gens, he provides amazing momentum and utility. I've encountered a lot of trouble with Gliscor in particular, and Genesect's ice beam always takes care of that. Additionally, Genesect is always able to put a dent in opponents, hurting Mega Tyranitar pretty hard and OHKO-ing Mega Alakazam (not sure why people use it) and Mega Garchomp. I can also OHKO Mega-Gardevoir, Mega-Heracross, and most importantly, Mega-Lucario. I haven't fought a Mega-Scizor yet, but based on statistics, Genesect would win that fight. Iron head is there as Fairy insurance and utility STAB.
Azumarill @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
IVs: 30 Atk / 30 Def / 30 SAtk
- Belly Drum
- Play Rough
- Waterfall
- Aqua Jet
I love Azumarill. After getting a free switch-in from Wobb, Belly Drum makes this guy a nigh-unstoppable monster. When Pokes do stop it, it's generally at the cost of a huge chunk of their team AND that Poke's health (thanks to Aqua Jet). Opponents tend to throw their strongest wall out to try to stop him, and in the event that it works, the wall becomes easily pickable next turn by maybe Genesect or Garchomp. Additionally, should my other Pokes fail, Azumarill has enough utility on its own without the Belly Drum boost to cause some serious damage.
Garchomp @ Leftovers
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 HP
Naive Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Outrage
- Fire Blast
- Earthquake
Aah yes Garchomp, the legend. This might seem out-of-place on this team, but Garchomp is indispensable. Without him, my team has some trouble with fire types and moves, but Garchomp tanks those rather easily and hits back, hard. Also, Chomp is an incredibly reliable Stealth Rock user, but can also barrage through opponents with STAB Outrage/Earthquake. Fire Blast is for Trevenant, Ferrothorn, and the myriad of bug-types that are finding their way onto the tier, as well as Lucario/Scizor. Should I find myself looking at a Poke I can't really beat, I can just switch him out to something else and keep him as an emergency button sweeper. But, his role is really more of a pivot than anything, oddly enough.
Lucario @ Lucarionite
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Close Combat
- Bullet Punch
- Bulk Up
This guy is honestly a monster on any team, but here, he finds his true niche. First of all, Lucario's synergy with Wobbuffet is amazing. When an opponent uses a dark-type, Wobb can usually take it, and I switch out to Lucario and nab the boost. Justified is why I use Atk, not SpA, Lucario. You may also be wondering why I have bulk up instead of swords dance. The main reason is for other Lucarios; usually unboosted when they try to nab my Lucario, the bulk up boost saves me by a few and allows me to OHKO back. I know that Close Combat is unorthodox with bulk up, but I've found that the immediate raw power of close combat is unmatched by, say, Drain Punch. Lucario is a hard-hitter, and he isn't meant for longevity. Bullet Punch is for utilities and pesky fairies, and Earthquake is largely for Aegislash, who otherwise walks all over Lucario.
Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SDef
Careful Nature
- Spikes
- Thunder Wave
- Leech Seed
- Power Whip
Ferrothorn, oh, Ferrothorn! Besides the fantastic synergy with Wobbuffet and Garchomp, Ferrothorn serves as my status-inducer. He's my best check to scarfed mons and Ditto with T-wave. Additionally, leech seed helps me to dig into opposing defensive Pokes while giving health to Ferro. However, Ferro is most interesting in offensive situations. For example, he works wonders against Ttar, and is my only answer to Rotom-W. Ferrothorn is more or less my panic button because he is so reliable.
Wobbuffet (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Shadow Tag
EVs: 242 SDef / 28 HP / 238 Def
Bold Nature
- Encore
- Mirror Coat
- Counter
- Safeguard
And now for the star, Wobbuffet! Like the days of olde, Wobbuffet's movepool is concise and deadly. My favorite way to use him is to set up on a sweeper or hazard setter. Using encore, I bring out Azumarill or Lucario and begin to set up myself. In both cases, this always leads to an at least partial sweep. I also use Wobbuffet as an offense counter. Wobbuffet actually likes Talonflame because Talonflame gives it options; I could either KO Talonflame (more likely), or use the repeat attack to bring out Azumarill (less likely). Safeguard works against mons like Klefki who like to spam thunder waves, as it prevents Azumarill or Lucario from getting statused. Wobbuffet is truly a monster, albeit a pocket-sized one.

This team has been successful, but my ranking is creeping up unusually slowly, so I haven't really battled anyone good. Any thoughts or advice? Or, any Pokes that I'm obviously not addressing that could kill me?
