Wobbufett

Wobbuffet is a competitively decent Pokemon. Wobbufett locks Pokemon in with the ability Shadow Tag, and can use Counter and Mirror Coat to KO it's attacker very consistently as long as you can predict if it will use an attack, and if you know whether it is a special attacker, or a physical attacker. If you can predict the enemy is using a status move, Wobbuffet can use encore to lock it in, giving you a free switch the next turn (unless they choose to dynamax, and if you can predict that, you can counter it with another pokemon), and if the opponent decides not to switch, you can possibly get a free status move yourself on the next turn. For Wobbuffets last move, destiny bond is great. With destiny bond, if the opponent is slower than you and you can predict an attack, they will get KOed with you. If the opponent is faster, it is harder to pull off because they will have to willingly attack you knowing the destiny knot is active. With that, you can almost assure they will switch or use a status move, so you can (most of the time) freely switch to almost any pokemon you want. Wobbuffet is a great first pokemon to send out, but it works just as well and possibly better if used later on. Wobbuffet can get at least one KO very consistently, and often gets 2 if used right and is great for countering many pokemon and slowing momentum. One thing to watch out for is attack boosts. Wobbuffet can survive most attacks easily and counter them, KOing the opponent, but if they get baton passed into a attack boost, you will die. However, if you can predict a swords dance and other such moves, you can encore them into it, either causing them to switch, removing the stat boost, keep using the move, letting you attack them and most likely KO them before they get out if the encore, or dynamax, which you can switch to counter just in case. I recommend running no item, because Wobbuffet is weak to Dark moves, so knock off, being a very common move, is a large threat and can one-shot Wobbuffet if you are using an item. Without an item, knock off usually won't KO. If you want to run an item, Iapapa Berry and Rocky Helmet are good options. Or, if you want to use Wobuffett to take out those boosted sweepers, swapping Wobuffet in with a focus sash would work great. Also, Wobuffett in a trick room does wonders with destiny knot, which can usually get Wobuffett 2 KOs pretty easily. Overall, Wobbuffet is an underrated mon and should be used more.

Here's a moveset with no item:

Wobbuffet
Ability: Shadow Tag
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Counter
- Mirror Coat
- Destiny Bond
- Encore

Hi welcome to Smogon! In order to write an official analysis for the PU tier, your request must be confirmed by one of the PU Quality Control members. Also, there are guidelines, templates, and formatting prompts which must be followed when writing an analysis. Please be sure to have a total understanding of the PU banlist as well, since Shadow Tag is actually banned! Thanks and have a nice day!
