Wombo Combo (Peaked 1644 on Showdown)

HELLO PEOPLE

Welcome to this rmt post on smogon! I'm Zeta5 and I'll be your host through this thread! I was sitting around, thinking, HEY I got an idea and so I went, after a a rugged teambuilding session. This team went on a win streak comparable to my Neptune Team. Eventually I did lose but i thought this team would be nice to share since it's always nice to improve.

The Process:

So I started off with Scizor, i haven't used him in awhile so i decided to give him a spin

I added Rotom-W to get that voltturn going, Then I needed a scarfer, why not Terrakion? This got me on a roll

Tyranitar looked like a nice option since he compliments Terrakion quite nicely as well as giving me some bulk

knowing my team got smashed by fighting types, I added Gliscor to keep them at bay

Alakazam was my choice for another special attacker. He has some decent coverage and is very powerful

So with my team in hand, I set off on showdown.

Wombo (Scizor) (M) @ Choice Band
Trait: Technician
EVs: 108 Spd / 252 Atk / 148 HP
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn
- Superpower
- Quick Attack

Classic banded Scizor. 108 EVs in speed sacrifices bulk for the power to out speed the standard specially defensive Heatran allowing me to score a KO with superpower. BP and U-turn are the go to moves for Scizor. Superpower helps hit most pokemon that resist my STABs. Quick Attack is my choice for the final slot since it can hit pokemon that Bullet Punch can't. For an example a damaged Volcarona who tries to set up will get beaten inwards by the surprise Quick Attack. Thundurus-T Also can get hit by it aswell. While not mostly used, Quick Attack is an asset to my team.

Horse (Terrakion) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Justified
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 HP
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge
- Rock Slide
- X-Scissor
This guy saves me over so many times. Scarf Terrakion is definitely a key player in my team. CC is my primary move. destroys so many things. I carry both Stone Edge and Rock Slide. Rock slide doesn't miss (at least not to often) and stone edge hits harder and is used when needed. X-scissor finishes off the sets by hitting Celebi as well as other psychic types.

rotom_w_by_xrainxwhenxixdiex-d333xuy.png

Combo (Rotom-Wash) @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 184 HP / 144 SAtk / 176 SDef / 4 Def
Modest Nature
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split
If you didn't notice by now, Scizor is nicknamed Wombo and this Rotom-W here is called Combo. these 2 make up my voltturn combo and they compliment each other well. The set is pretty standard with volt switch and hydro pump. Will-O-Wisp dishes out the burns to halt those sweepers and Pain Split keeps this guy around for as long as possible.

EoAhd.jpg

Aggro (Tyranitar) (M) @ Chople Berry
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SDef / 4 Atk
Adamant Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Pursuit
- Crunch
- Earthquake
The massive Tyrant gets his place on this team and uses it well. Stealth Rocks is my entry hazard of choice to cripple the flying types and I guess Volcarona. We have Pursuit to keep those psychic guys here to perish and crunch for more damage output if needed. In place of stone edge i run Earthquake to catch some unsuspecting pokemon like Heatran, Tentacruel, Jolteon, Metagross and if I'm in a predicting mood, the Terrakion himself! the adamant nature also helps dish out more pain as well.

Gliscor_by_vitzzz.jpg

SKARNER (Gliscor) (M) @ Toxic Orb
Trait: Poison Heal
EVs: 252 HP / 76 Spd / 180 Def
Impish Nature
- Toxic
- Earthquake
- Protect
- Taunt
My designated physical wall. toxic gets the residual damage going. Earthquake for some form of damage. protects gets my toxic orb up as well as helping me stall and scout. Finally, taunt stops anyone who attempts to set up up, whether it be hazards, stat boosters, baton pass maybe? Taunt puts a stop to that quickly.

Ice Cream Salesman (Alakazam) (M) @ Focus Sash
Trait: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Psychic
- Focus Blast
- Shadow Ball
- Energy Ball
I needed some form of special attack outside rotom-W. I opted for Alakazam since he's pretty fast and has special attack only beaten by Chandelure and Porygon-Z(OK THEY ARE TIED BUT PZ HITS HARDER WITH ADAPTABILITY TRI ATTACK). psychic for the stab. focus blast hits steels pretty well. shadow ball nails ghost types and opposing psychic types. Energy ball was my last move since Gastrodon would take a huge dump on my team if i didn't have it.
Magic guard is such a good ability, that combined with the focus sash just keeps me there for at least 1 turn, I love it :toast:.

To further inform you on this team, I have a Video Prepared!

AND THAT's THAT people. This was a long typing process and my left arm is aching a little. Leave your thoughts, suggestions and hate(no jk don't) in the comments below. I hope you enjoyed and remember to luvdisc! (you know you want to)

THREAT LIST

Keldeo is the main problem to my team. Only Rotom-W can sponge the powerful hydro pumps but other than that I have a hard time

Skarmory has an easy time with my team other than Rotom-W. Gliscoe cannot touch it.

I guess I'll add others when i find them or when told of them. post my friends!

hay zeta! So i sort of have a lot of ideas about the team, so here we go:

How would you feel about changing alakazam to a CM/Roar latias? you can set up all day on keldeo, and because you're faster, you're roar will go before skarmory's whirlwind, meaning it can't phaze you out and you can continue to set up on it. You can also SOMEWHAT set up on things like gastro, which you said completely wall your team. Gastrodon brings me to my next suggestion, which is to change terrak from banded to scarf. it 2HKOs nearly everything, including skarmory and gastrodon, and with the sp. def boost from sand, gastro really can't do anything back unless they are old school and run earthquake (which still doesn't OHKO iirc). With this change, you wouldn't have a scarfer anymore, so I would probably make Ttar scarfed and give rocks to your gliscor. Scarf ttar takes care of lots of things. you still easily kill both the lati twins as you did before, as well as, again, hitting things like gastro and jellicent, who by the looks of it also gives you some headaches. I have a few other ideas like adding a scarfed keldeo to help with opposing rain teams and junk. But i feel as though i've changed the team enough from your design already. so i'll leave it at this. Good job buddy! :]

Hi Zeta5 !

This is an interesting Sand Team, using pokemons that I love like Alakazam, but I see a way to improve this team.
Here I go.

The weaknesses :

- First, Grass moves seem REALLY threatening, and Breloom will be a MASSIV THREAT to your team. It kills Ttar, Terrak, Rotom-W, Gliscor and does a big chunk to Scizor and Alakazam if the Sash is lost. You need to fix this weakness asap !

- Then, as you said, Scarf Keldeo is the other #1 threat to your team, scoring a really nice number of kills. Basically it can kill anyone. This means that the opposing team just has to let Keldeo enters, and kill someone in your team. You need to fix this weakness asap aswell !

- This leads me to realise, that you're just weak in general to Grass and Water moves. This is a common weakness in Sand Teams, you can't put Terrakion Ttar and Gliscor in the same team like this or you will start collecting a bunch of common weaknesses. A Weavile could do a ton by the way, and a Terrakion also since Gliscor is a shaky check to him.

So, let's start by balancing your weaknesses, here are my changes :

Zapdos over Rotom-W

At this point, you better have someone both able to take Hurricanes AND Grass moves. Zapdos can deal decently with Breloom since he also has a resistance to Fight (you need it definitely).
Moreover, Zapdos performs pretty well as a bulky SpD pivot given his instant recovery move in Roost. He can also be a part of your Volt-Turn combo, but I really don't think that you need it, I'll still slash it on the set.
If the Rain is up, Zapdos takes around 63% from Scarf Keldeo HPump, so you can Roost off the damages untill he's out of PP thanks to pressure. You'll need to be full HP for this obviously, and SR damages make this a little harder, but it is a last resort, and we can't clear the SR case later.

Because the second change to me is Tentacruel over Gliscor

Okay, you need a resistance to Fight I get it, but Gliscor wasn't softening your weakness to Water and Grass move, that's why it was not a good idea. You're not Thunder weak at all, however the Ground weakness that he brings is a little annoying. BUT I don't see many EQ users that could annoy you. RP Landorus seems taken pretty well by Zapdos so it should be fine.
So moreover, Tentacruel is not weak to Grass/Water moves and will be a huge asset against Rain teams.

These two changes make you weaker to another common threat for the Sand team : Mamoswine. This being said, Scizor can deal with him with Bullet Punch, and Terrakion outspeeds him. Alakazam can be your last resort with Sash against him so you should be fine.

Hippowdon over Tyranitar seems now needed.

But, now that your SpD side is far more solid, I don't see why Tyranitar. That's why I would change him to a Hippowdow. Now you're not so weak anymore to Ground pokemons (Think about Duggy). He will mitigate the departure of Gliscor. This change is just a matter of preference, given the other changes that I advised you, Tyranitar is not anymore the Sand Streamer that you need. Hippowdon and Tentacruel will be your new answer to Terrakion, knowing that Scizor can solve the case anyway in case of set-up.

Usually I shouldn't tell you to changes three pokemons, but well Hippowdon over Tyranitar will not change much in this case.

Now Breloom is taken by Zapdos and Tentacruel will take care of Keldeo decently. They form a pretty sweet defensive core against Rains.
Since you win three resistance to Fighting, maybe Alakazam will not be anymore the best special sweeper ever, but well, it's up to you to change him.
Another thing that I'd do is change Alakazam for a scarfer and switch Terrakion to another set but, it's all about my personal taste.

That being said, if you lose Tyranitar, you need Pursuit over Quick Attack on Scizor in my opinion. Terrakion can come on Volcarona and kill it anyway so it should not be so important.
Now that I look at it, your invesment in Speed on Scizor is bad. Let's explain why I think so : since you will be locked in a move, the only situation when this invesment is good, is when you switch Scizor on Heatran when he SR or Toxic for instance, and attack next turn. There is no good player that will let his Heatran against your Scizor if they see you switching in. So you better only try to attack the Heatran when HE switches in because the situation when you both switch and find Scizor against Heatran is unlikely. Finally, any decent Heatran player (and especially bad ones in fact), use Protect to scout your move (especially if they see that you're CB). Better move this speed in HP on Scizor.

Hm, and I don't know if killing Gastrodon worth the cost of this moveslot on Alak that could be used to revenge kill Dragons or Steel like Jirachi. It's your personal taste I guess.¨

The SETS :

gbc145.gif

Zapdos @ Leftovers
Pressure
248 / 244 SpD / 16 Spe
Calm Nature
- Heat Wave
- Discharge / Volt Switch
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Roost

The speed in here for neutral base 70 like Adamant Breloom, 248 in HP to allow to come 4 times on the field, rest in SpD.
You can call Zapdos Lux by the way :)

gbc073.gif

Tentacruel @ Black Sludge
Rain Dish
252 HP / 240 Def / 16 Spe
Timid Nature
- Scald
- Rapid Spin
- Toxic Spikes
- Protect

Classic set, Speed for Jolly Breloom, rest in HP and Def.

450.gif

Hippowdon @ Leftovers
Sand Stream
242 HP / 248 Def / 12 SpD / 4 Spe
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Slack Off
- Roar

I took some EVs from HP to hit a 16+1 number and allow me to get the +12SpD and the +4 Speed useful against another Hippowdon trying to Roar you.

I hope I helped, good luck !

TL;DR
Zappy > Rotom-W
Tenty > Gliscor
Hippy > Tyranitar
Pursuit > Quick Attack on Scizor and Speed EVs in HP

The biggest problems in your team, as already noted, are the general weakness to Water attacks (and secondarily to Grass, too) and the fact that only Gliscor can take strong Fighting attacks; this makes Breloom and Keldeo quite dangerous, especially the latter. To fix these problems, you could swap Alakazam for a Offensive Celebi. Alakazam is indeed nice, however any hit will break its Sash and basically make it useless, since it's so weak that it will be hardly able to tank any attack while switching around. Celebi, instead, has quite a good synergy with the rest of your team: it provides a much needed Water, Grass and Fighting resistance, has still a good amount of offensive prowess thanks to LO and high powered moves like Leaf Storm, can reliably recover HP lost to Sandstorm and Life Orb, can act as a status absorber, and can even provide an additional U-Turner if you need so. Leaf Storm and Psychic provide quite good coverage, although you can use Earth Power, and HP Fire too, in place of Psychic, to remove the things more threatening for your team. The last two slots are for Recover and a move chosen between U-Turn, Baton Pass, and Thunder Wave (Baton Pass helps escaping Pursuiters, although it's quite antisynergic if you BPass the SpA drop, so...use it at your own risk). Grass Knot can be used as an alternative to Leaf Storm if you don't like the SpA drop, however it's pretty useless against Rotom-W so...well, it's up to you. Your team, in return, already takes care of many things that usually threaten Celebi: Volcarona is destroyed by Terrakion, Rotom can handle almost all those Fire, Ice and Flying types (see below), and Gliscor can take strong U-Turns from physical threats, and strong Physical attacks in general.

251.png

Celebi @ Life Orb | Natural Cure
Modest | 56 HP / 252 SpA / 200 Spe
- Leaf Storm
- Psychic / Earth Power / HP Fire
- Thunder Wave / U-Turn / Baton Pass
- Recover

To further consolidate your defensive core, I'd chance the Rotom-W set to the Specially Defensive one (248 HP / 28 SpA / 232 SpD Calm), since it's an effective answer to Tornadus, one of the few rain threats that Celebi can't handle, and is also a back-up solution against RP Landorus-I, since Focus Blast barely 2HKOs while Hydro Pump OHKOs cleanly.

Another little thing I'd change is the last coverage move on Tyranitar. Superpower is usually superior to Earthquake, since it allows you to hit basically all those poeks that you have listed (except for Tentacruel, but that's not a huge problem when you can double switch to Celebi and OHKO if you predict that) and more (Balloon Heatran, all Ferrothorns, and opposing TTars, for example). Okay, it lowers your defenses, but TTar is not going to stay in a lot anyway since its crippling weaknesses will more likely than not be exploited anyway, so that's not a downside at all. Superpower also hits stringer neutral targets, and is not exploited so easily with Levitate / Flying types switching in.

Hope my rate was helpful. Good luck.

Hi there zeta5, you have a very solid team, however I think a couple of changes could make it better.

There are a couple of changes to your EVs that I would make to your team out of personal preference. The first is changing your scizor to the standard spread of 248 hp/252 att/ 8 spd. Scizor has respectable bulk and the extra hp EVs allow you to take one or two extra attacks. However speed on scizor isn't bad and if you prefer that spread, that's fine. The second change to your Evs come on your rotom-w. Almost every non-heavy offense team nowadays needs a special bulky water type to combat rain. Rotom-w is one of the best in the current meta since it also has volt-switch to deal super effective to water types, torn-t and gain switch initiative. I would change rotom-w to a special defensive set to help your team combat rain.

Now some changes to your team. Remedy and ganj4IF's suggestions are very good and there's not much to say here. If you do choose to follow these changes, I would keep rotom-w as a special defensive set over zapdos to minimize the weakness to ice that all of these changes could create. Also a LO latias could be used over offensive celebi if you want to retain some of the power that alakazam provided while covering nearly the same things that celebi would cover, type wise at least. If you feel that Gastro still gives your team problems, celebi would still be valid as well as the fact that it has access to u-turn to give your team a bit more volt-turn initiative.

Changes:
Physically defensive Hippowdon > Tyranitar
Specially defensive Rotom-w > current spread
Standard Scizor > Current EV spread
Standard Tentacruel > Gliscor
LO Latias/Offensive Celebi > Alakazam

Sorry for making so many changes to your team, I usually don't like doing that, but I think that a lot of these small changes could help your team greatly. Also if you follow these changes, remember to thank Remedy and ganj4IF, as the majority of these changes were suggested by these two.

I knew i made a good decision in making this rmt. i will definitely try out most these suggestions since they all look very interesting. I'm not quite sure about Celebi over zam since I get destroyed by the faster pokemon of the tier without a single fast pokemon of my own. Latias maybe though. I guess I will switch scizor to the standard one. I haven't used hippo too much, I think ill try. tenta seems like a good idea. thanks gain folks
