Wonderguard evades the Attack!

Hello! When I went out to make an OU team I decided to make use of at least one of my favorite pokemon Shedinja or Persian, and since Persian is outclassed in every way except for hypnosis (which is bad move) by Ambipom, I decided to go with Shedinja.

Unfortunately Shedinja is a very high matinence pokemon, it needs a permanent non-damaging weather effect and a spinner to do its job. Ninetales shares a weakness with Shedinja and a Sun Team needs fire types which makes even more rock and stealth rock weaknesses, so I decided to make this a rain team. The idea is to have a bunch of U-turn/Volt switchers who can make free switches through Shedinja and keep my momentum going. I’ve been hovering around a 1350 rating on the PO Wifi ladder and I have come to Smogon to get some valuable critique and hopefully improve it. Without further ado here’s what I got so far. :)

Politoed.gif

Politoed @ Leftovers
Timid (Drizzle)
252 Spec. Att./252 Speed/4 Def.
Hydro Pump
Ice Beam
Hidden Power
Encore

A standard Politoed, its just here to get rain up, but it can mess up fellow leads with encore and it gets good coverage with 3 attacks. I’m open to suggestions for politoed, as I really don’t know what would work best for this team.

Rotom-W @ Choice Scarf
Modest (Levitate)
252 Spec. Att./252 Speed/4 Def.
Thunder
Hydro Pump
Volt Switch
Trick

The first of my volt switchers, it works great in the rain and cripples walls with trick, this guy is necessary for the team he just checks so many things with his power, bulk and added speed with choice scarf.

Magnezone @ Choice Specs
Modest (Magnet Pull)
252 Spec. Att./252 Speed/4 Def.
30IVs in Def/Spec.Att./Spec.Def./Speed
Thunder
Volt Switch
Flash Cannon
Hidden Power (Fighting)

This guy is essential to beat nattorei who otherwise messes up my team pretty bad. His spec.att. is huge and he provides another volt switch to the team which helps immensely in scouting. I am not at all happy with the EVs on this guy, the max speed definitely feels like a waste, suggestions?

scizor.jpg

Scizor @ Choice Band
Adamant (Technician)
248HP/252 Att./8 Speed
U-Turn
Bullet Punch
Super Power
Pursuit

Generic Scizor set but what can I say? Its just too good :P Its got a powerful U-turn and a handy Priority move.

donphan_dea_by_karikat-d3go48u.png

Donphan @ Leftovers
Impish (Sturdy)
252HP/128 Att./128Def.
Rapid Spin
Stealth Rock
Ice Shard
Earthquake

I used to have Hitmontop in his place, but I desperately needed another Gliscor check along with Rotom-W as it was walling my whole team if it died. Its got bigger Attack, Defence and HP but I miss the Special Defence boost and intimidate, as well as Hitmotop being my Breloom counter. Otherwise this a good solid standard set, not much to say.

shedinja.png

Shedinja @ Focus Sash
Lonely (Wonder Guard)
252 Attack/252 Speed
Toxic
Protect
Baton Pass
Shadow Claw

This here is the lynchpin of my team, it walls so many OU threats my team otherwise couldn’t handle, like Thunderus, Rotom-W and Kingdra. The best move on this set that makes Shedinja not suck is Baton Pass. When I bring Shedinja in on a choiced poke on a wrong move or something it completely walls I hit that Baton Pass :D When they switch out I get to empty baton pass to its counter and hopefully Volt Switch/U-turn and keep my momentum going. The only time I don’t is when they have nothing left to hit Shedinja or I know they are going to Toxic, in which case I just switch to Scizor

Offensive Threats

Latios – Shedinja non hpfire, Scizor, Donphan Ice Shard

Xatu - Rotom-W, Politoed, Scizor, Donphan, Magnezone

Zapdos – Biggest problem to face, I got nothing if its lighting rod with toxic reeeeally need help here.

This Team is very Um good, but your Shedinja Move set is very good because you never know when you will come across a pokemon with the move Gastro Acid or you get your Ability changed to Normal. The best way to stop that if you use Toxic or evade with Protect. But it's rare to see someone with that move or ability. Nice team and set.

Edit: I think having Thunderbolt instead of Thunder is way better because it helps more if you are up against a sand storm team and your Politoad has fainted You won't be able to get a 100% chance for thunder hitting. You should really think about that.

I give your team a rating of 4.5/5.

I know the standard Magnezone set that works well for me is 40 hp/252 spA/216 spe with a naive nature. gives it a little bulk, and has plenty of speed

That Shedinja set is weird, since if you're going to just kill all the Shedinja counters anyway, why not use a sweeping SD set? It's tons more frustrating. Add some Baton Pass with SD for unexpected Scizor rape.

Use Hidden Power Fire on Magnezone so you can crush Scizor.

In the rain its 140bp SE against Scizor, Thunder is 180, against Nattorei HP Fighting does exactly the same amount as HP Fire so it doesn't really matter.

You can try something like this:

252 HP / 252 SpAtk / 4 Def

or you can make a Physical Wall with this:

76 HP / 180 SpAtk / 252 Def

this is the only ideas i have in the moment

as for team:

VERY COOOOOL! \o\

Thanks lol and I was looking for a bulkier spread I'll try it out.

Shedinja learns swords dance by waiting until level 25 to level up as a nincada and having it carry over from ninjask, and since thats how I also have baton pass I can't have both moves. I could BP Hone Claws but I find it to be too slow and nothing benefits from the accuarcy boost so its best to go with protect to scout.

Have you ever tried Wing Attack Scizor for those pesky Fighting types? It is extremely helpful for me. For example, I have OHKO'ed Machamp with it, and in a game, it is a level up move, which is easy to get.

Dugtrio (M) @ Focus Sash Trait: Arena Trap

- Stealth Rock
Rotom-W @ Leftovers

Sassy Nature (+SDef, -Spd)
- Thunder
- Protect

My approach to this strategy.
Using Shedinja as a phazer as well as a strong attacker.

Over Magnezone, I use Dugtrio to counter opponent weathers.

Nice team; I like the Shedinja. Instead of Donphan, I would test a more offensive spinner with Starmie:
move 1: Rapid Spin
move 2: Surf
move 3: Ice Beam / Thunder
move 4: Recover
item: Leftovers / Life Orb
ability: Natural Cure
nature: Timid
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

Starmie gives you another check to Thunderous and Gliscor. Breeloom can be somewhat taken care of if you opt for ice beam; Starmie also can absorb status for Shedinja due to its natural cure ability. It also has staying potential due to recover, allowing you to spin and switch in multiple times. It also abuses the rain boost with surf. You can test and see what you prefer between life orb and leftovers (I recommend leftovers for survivability).

I do like the idea of trick however no baton pass doesn't work for me, I might adopt a set of Trick, Baton Pass, X-Scissor and Shadow Claw though. Nice team.

That is a really excellent idea, it fits right in with the rain team and helps against gliscor as well. I'll probably go with Ice Beam as I only have one other ice move, thanks for the feedback!
