wow
This is how I felt when I discovered the Doubles aspect of Pokemon, a whole new way to battle. Way more strategy involved, with the Bring 6 Pick 4 method, and so many more Pokemon become viable. This team is dedicated to a meme that portrays the awe I felt introducing myself to the metagame: doge.
I like to know exactly what I want to do right from the team preview (doesn't everybody?), so I wanted to make a routine team with two focuses, so I can know my gameplay and get better at it. From the preview, I pick either Sun or Trick Room. I have 2 Pokemon meant for Sun, 2 Pokemon that perform well in Sun and Trick Room, and 2 Pokemon meant for Trick Room. Without further ado, here is the team.
such plant (Venusaur) (M) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Chlorophyll
Level: 50
EVs: 8 Spd / 252 HP / 240 SAtk / 8 SDef
Modest Nature
- Giga Drain
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Sleep Powder
- Protect
Used in Sun only
After lurking for a little bit, I found a bunch of Venusaur sets, and a lot of them had their pros and cons. I feel like this Venusaur set puts has all of my favorite features. The 8 Speed EVs allows him to speed creep Jolteons, the 240 SpAttack allows for a guaranteed 2HKO on a Calm Specially defensive Rotom-W. The rest gets dumped into HP and SpDef. I love that this Venusaur outspeeds everything (besides Scarfed mons, which I haven't seen much of at all in Doubles), and can cripple them with Sleep, or pop 'em with 2 nice attacks.
very dragon (Charizard-Mega-Y) (M) @ Charizardite Y
Ability: Drought
Level: 50
EVs: 252 Spd / 184 SAtk / 72 HP
Timid Nature
- Heat Wave
- Solar Beam
- Air Slash
- Protect
Used in Sun only
Pretty standard MegaZardY, the EVs ensure that he isn't OHKO'd by Greninja Scald, and the completely maxed speed is for dreaming that Lando and Chomp are running Adamant so I can outspeed. I think I want a new move in replacement for Solarbeam, but I'm not sure. I have Venusaur's Giga Drain for that. Maybe if I were to replace it I'd put Focus Blast, but seeing as it has pitiful accuracy, that might not be a viable option.
so night (Umbreon) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
Level: 50
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 184 Def / 144 SDef / 180 HP
Impish Nature
- Foul Play
- Taunt
- Protect
- Moonlight
Used in Sun and TR options
Ok, I have this Umbreon waiting in White 2 for me, it was RNG bred for me by a friend on PokeCommunity. He EVed it himself, so I don't know if he had a certain survivability strategy in mind, or he just made it look pretty, because the Defense and SpDef stat are the same. If anyone has a suggestion on new EVs, I'm all for it, I can re-breed or breed egg moves if anyone sees fit, as it is a female. Anyway, this Umbreon has nice taunt support, can Foul Play Swords Dancers, and heals 2/3 health in the sun.
much heavy (Aggron-Mega) (M) @ Aggronite
Ability: Filter
Level: 50
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 HP / 252 SDef
Careful Nature
IVs: 0 Spd
- Iron Head
- Protect
- Brick Break
- Dragon Tail
Used in TR only
This Aggron is a support Pokemon hidden behind attacks. Dragon Tail gets sweepers out of there, Brick Break deals with Screens, and Iron Head can flinch when in Trick Room. All of these do lots of damage too, with MegaAggron sporting a base 160 attack if I'm not mistaken. After lots of testing, this Aggron is doing it's job fantastically, but I haven't used the move Protect once. However, a CB Darmanintan took it out from 84% health with a Flare Blitz, so I'm thinking about putting more defensive investment.
can u not (Slowking) (M) @ Mental Herb
Ability: Regenerator
Level: 50
EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP / 4 SAtk
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spd
- Trick Room
- Slack Off
- Scald
- Psychic
Used in TR only
My Trick Room setter. That's really all there is to it. I just kinda like Slowking. I don't really know where I'm going with this, but I need Trick Room for part of my team, and Slowking is a nice bulky setter that has nice synergy with Aggron. The Mental Herb just prevents me from being taunted before I set up TR, because Slowking is, well, slow. I also feel that when Slowking attacks, the damage output is underwhelming. Might want a replacement, and definitely want a new EV spread.
doge (Stoutland) (M) @ Chople Berry
Ability: Intimidate
Level: 50
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 96 Def / 160 Atk
Brave Nature
- Fire Fang
- Crunch
- Play Rough
- Return
Used in Sun and TR options
much meme
very pokemon
such lame nickname
wow
This Stoutland is awesome. Great Intimidate support, with a Chople Berry for obvious reasons, but I was thinking I might switch it to an Assault Vest. However, with the Chople Berry and Intimidate, this doge BARELY GETS 3HKOD by an Adamant 252 Attack Scrafty HI JUMP KICK. It definitely helps with the Fighting types that cripple my main walls in Umbreon and Aggron, and can fire back with a Play Rough. It also has a Sun boosted Fire Fang that hits pretty hard, and can flinch or burn.
This is my first ever serious Doubles competitive team, so I'd really appreciate any help I can get. The main things I think I need help with are new EV spreads for Umbreon, Aggron, and Slowking, possibly a new item for Stoutland, a replacement move for Zard's SolarBeam, and maybe a replacement for Slowking. Any help will be taken into account, even if it doesn't fall into one of these categories. Thank you!
