Writing this took me ages (UU rmt)

This is my third UU team for shoddy. Team looks pretty solid for me, the only problem is that I overpredict and make stupit moves (clearly: I’m bad in battling). However I want to know what you smogoners think about this team;

The team:

I’m ugly
@ Leftovers
Ability: Tinted Lens
Evs: Hp 196 / Spe 216 / SpA 96
Nature: Timid
- Bug Buzz
- Hidden Power: Fighting
- Roost
- Sleep Powder

This just-so-damn-ugly hornet is great leader. How it works is pretty simple; sleep the opponent at first turn and then fire bug buzz, or run away. Roost when necessary. I use hidden power fightning over sludge bomb, because bug buzz does all the same things that sludge bomb does. Hidden power also hits harder against normals and ices.

I’m ownage >:D @ Leftovers
Evs: Hp 252 / Att 252 / 6 Spe
Nature: Adamant
- Dragon Claw
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake
- Roost

Look how over-cute, lovable and wooly this lamb is. And still it kills almost entire team. Pretty much normal ”DD up and dragon claw stuff down” set, but Ev spread is more defensive, because altaria also works as switch-in against fire and grass attacks. Thats why I also gave leftovers instead life orb.

I’m slimy @ Leftovers
Ability: Sticky Hold
Evs: Hp 212 / Def 252 / SpA 44
Nature: Realxed
- Ice Beam
- Recover
- Surf
- Toxic

Standard bulky water. Gastrodon is pretty cool pokemon, because it learns recover. I don’t see point having earthquake (okay, maybe it’s good against poisons, but thats it) so I replaced it with toxic, which hinders walls that pops out.

I’m BIG BOSS @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
Evs: Hp 252 / Att 120 / SpD 136
Nature: Imphis
- Earthquake
- Explosion
- Roar
- Stealth Rock

My big and evil physical wall. Steelix has some great resistances, notably normal, poison and rock. First I thought put rest instead roar, but without roar Leafeon and Drifblim would have field day. Roar also works well with stealth rock. Otherwise pretty standard walling set, "lay rocks and then explode"

I’m little bit too fat @ Choice Specs
Ability: Thick Fat
Evs: Hp 64 / Spe 192 / SpA 252
Nature: Modest
- Hidden Power: Fighting
- Psychic
- Shadown Ball
- Energy Ball

I wanted hard hitting choice pokemon and this crummy pig magically kicks balls. Trick isn’t that helpful, so I replaced it with energy ball, which greatly helps against water/ground types.

I’m pedophile @ Leftovers
Ability: Scrappy
Evs: Hp 212 / Att 82 / Spe 216
Nature: Adamand
- Focus Punch
- Return
- Substitute
- Sucker Punch

I’m surprised how uncommon this beast is in Shoddy. Behind substitute, almost nothing can’t stay on without taking some hard damage, thanks to scrappy. Sucker punch really helps me against fast attackers.

Strategy:

In a nutshell, my startegy is to weaken opponents pokemons and then kill the team with hard-hitting sweepers.

The team is pretty defensive: many pokemons learns healing moves, it holds the most important
type resistances and it has sleeper, phazer, toxic and stealth rock support.

The team causes lots of switches and I get free turns to hurt opponent. Slowly, opponent loses health and then I set up hard-hitting sweeper and finish the weakened team.

Thread list:

I wrote only the most important threats:

Absol Steelix walls it and kangashan can try to focus punch it
Aggron Gastrodon can take aggron’s hits
Altaria Gastrodon can take some hits and blast ice beam
Ampharos Altaria, gastrodon and steelix

Blastoise Altaria can kill non-ice beam versions, gastrodon can toxic it and grumpig can energy ball it
Cacturne Kangaskhan and maybe Venomoth
Camerupt Altaria (if it lacks rock move), gastrodon
Claydol Gastrodon. Grumpig and venomoth also can finish weakened claydol
Clefable Steelix stops physical sets. Venomoth and grumpig can finish weakened clefable
Cloyster Stealth Rock hurts and kangaskhan can focus punch it. Grumpig also works
Gradily Steelix walls it, gastrodon can try to ice beam it
Dodrio Steelix walls it, gastrodon can take some hits and blast ice beam
Drapion Nothing I think
Drifblim Steelix roars drifblims out and grumpig can try to shadown ball

Electrode Altaria, steelix and gastrodon
Flareon Altaria and gastrodon
Froslass Kangaskhan sucker punch it
Gastrodon Grumpig’s choice specs energy ball hurts
Galceon Nothing really
Golem Gastrodon and sometimes steelix walls it. Grumpig can also energy ball it
Granbull Steelix can wall it and grumpig can try to hidden power it

Kabutops Steelix can wall and grumpig can try to energy ball it
Kangaskan Well, altaria resist focus punch
Lanturn Sometimes gastrodon, grumpig can really hurt
Lapras Kangaskhan can try to focus punch it and grumpig can try to energy ball it
Leafeon Steelix can roar it and altaria can switch into leaf blade
Lunatone Grumpig, gastrodon, kangaskhan’s sucker punch, steelix can roar it…
Manectric Gastrodon or altaria
Meganium Grumpig, venomoth and altaria
Nidoking Gastrodon, grumpig and sometimes steelix
Nidoqueen Same as above
Ninetales Altaria can take ninetale’s fire blast and energy ball
Persian Steelix. Grumpig and kangaskhan can try to hurt it
Quagsire Grumpig
Qwilfish Gastrodon, grumpig
Rotom Grumpig can try to shadown ball it
Sandslash Gastrodon, aybe grumpig
Scyther Gastrodon, sometimes steelix, stealth rock and sucker punch can finish it
Solrock Lol, gastrodon, steelix, grumpig
Steelix Gastrodon, grumpig and kangaskhan
Toxicroak Grumpig, if toxicroak doesn’t carry sucker punch
Venomoth Altaria
Vileplume Grumpig can psychic it, altaria resist main attacks

Pretty long list, huh? It was pain to write >.<

Now you can start posting :toast:

It seems that we are both revesed example of personal preferences. I personally always build teams who are more offense-based rather than defense, but great stall team regardless.

Whatever you do, do not Explode Steelix. It is your only answer to most Physical threats, so don't let it die.

BTW, this interesting set I devised in the "Creative Movesets" thread destroys this team: Surf/IB/HP Grass/Crunch Sharpedo. Kanga might be able to handle it though. Actually, without Steelix in good health, CB Crawdaunt or Sharpedo cause problems in general, since Waterfall easily 2HKOs, and Crunch maims everyone else.

You don't really have an answer to Fighting Pokemon. At all. Basically Altaria is your safest and only option, so I suggest throwing Banette or Rotom on here, depending on if you want an annoyer that is immune to sleep, or a sweeper.

Lastly, I think that Grumpig should go for a Restalker. You need him to cover a lot of special threats (namely Glaceon) so he'll appreciate the recovery.

I agree with skiddle. Steelix has turned a game around for me when the game was 2-4 I ended up still losing but by 0-1 with my oppenent's Lucario being at less than 50% Hit Points left.

Gastrodon is a good pokemon that can play in OU games as well and with Recover it's a beast but I use Substitute over Toxic. Yeah ..

Anyways, nice team.

I doesn't matter if he can switch. If Crawdaunt or Sharpedo get in, what is he going to send into them? If they chose Waterfall, Steelix loses most of his health, if you send in someone else, Crunch OHKOs. Steelix is weak to water moves so he's obviously not walling those.

Also, in case you didn't notice, there is no way that Steelix can handle fighting types, which is why another wall is needed. Hitmontop or Hitmonlee could scare off Steelix and Stone Edge Altaria. Grumpig is the only one who could take them on, and he doesn't even have a recovery move... he has Specs.

You joined here two days ago, and I've been here nearly a year... I'm pretty sure the people here know that Pokemon can switch and stuff. Of course, it doesn't matter if Steelix switches or not, because any player with prediction skills will either kill Steelix or kill the switch-in. You'll have to let something die to Crawdaunt or Sharpedo every time they show up with a team like this.

Yea, I disagree with these people that you need another wall. You don't need to switch into stuff at all to be able to take care of it.

I know you like Kangaskhan and its "awesome damage" or whatever, but I would recommend replacing it with something like Technician Top. Your team has Sharpedo issues, and a general high speed fighting issue (especially since Grumpig is a poor Choice to continually absorb Close Combats, and Venemoth and Altaria both go down to the combination o Stealth Rock and Stone Edge, a common move on Fighters).

Technician top with Fake Out + Mach Punch helps you with all these issues, and if you opportunity to swing the momentum back in your favor by requiring the opponent to switch because of you, as opposed to vice versa.

It adds a Flying and Psychic issue, but in uu (especially with Hypno losing Wish, at least for now), these are almost non issues.

Since you have 2 Stealth Rock weaks and no spinner, how about adding something to spin and also provide some bulk to fight things Steelix doesn't deal with well? I'll personally suggest Blastoise, perhaps over Grumpig. Consider running Hp Electric to better deal with other water types.

Thanks for feedback :)

Whatever you do, do not Explode Steelix. It is your only answer to most Physical threats, so don't let it die.
Now I realized, that Steelix really is the only answer against physical threats... So I tought to cover explosion with rest, it may help some.

I suggest throwing Banette or Rotom on here
Choice Spec rotom over grumpig? Rotom gives me some protection against normal, fightning and ground -type moves and it is able to sweep almost like grumpig. Something like this:

Rotom @ Choice Spec
Evs: hp 6 / SpA 252 / Spe 252
Nature: Timid
- Thunderbold
- Shadown Ball
- Hidden Power Grass
- Trick

Since you have 2 Stealth Rock weaks and no spinner, how about adding something to spin and also provide some bulk to fight things Steelix doesn't deal with well?
CB Crawdaunt or Sharpedo cause problems in general
How is about this over kangaskhan:

Hitmontop @ Leftovers
Evs: Hp 252 / SpD 252 / Spe 6
Nature: Adamand
Ability: Technician
- Rapid Spin
- Mach Punch/Close Combat
- Bulk Up
- Stone Edge

Bulk Up Hitmontop with Rapid Spin. This set would give some defense against physical threats and it still would sweep opponent team. Hitmontop without close combat may look like waste, but mach punch is against faster sweepers, like sharpedo, glaceon and crawdaunt.
