Xbox 360 Coolers

I bought an Xbox 360 Pro way back in October at EBGames. Now I've been hearing a lot of Xbox's overheating and get the three red rings but the guy at EBGames said it probably wouldn't fail and I could get a cooler to increase the life of the Xbox 360.

Now I searched online before but I can't seem to get a straight answer from anyone.

So Smogon, whats the best cooler? Mentioning the developer and even a simple picture from google would help.

Or is it better to not have a cooler?

Edit:

Here are some coolers

Just keep your xbox in a vertical position as to allow the removal of more heat since the major vents are on both sides. Don't keep the discs in your console when you turn it off. Also make sure it's in an open location without too much shit around it. Also, don't connect the AC adapter to any extention cords, plug it into the wall directly.

Another thing that really helps is to have a hairdryer with a "cold air" function. Blow cold air into the air vents of your Xbox every month or so to remove dust and lint, but make sure it's cold air ONLY. Hot air will cause damage.

Doing these thing will prevent Overheating and red ring for a long time, no need for a cooler :)

I already know about everything you mentioned in your first paragraph but that hairdryer trick sounds pretty good. It would be a pain to keep one of those handy; I'd have to steal one from my Mom.

I've already read tons of tips and weird ways about keeping your Xbox cool, but what I need to know is what types of Xbox 360 coolers you guys have tried and know are good. Or ones that you know are bad.

Can you just buy some sort of internal / external fan?

I don't know about the 360 but I put a better fan in my PC to keep the graphics card from overheating and stuff as it is slightly 'modified'; I believe the same idea will work with the 360.

The very second you modify your Xbox, or even take it apart your warranty is no longer any good.

Then can't you just put a fan outside the 360 without modifying it?

Just point a fan towards it ._.?
I don't have a fan that I can just put right next to it. (Nor do I even have the space) I would simply rather spend $20-$30 on one of these coolers made specifically for the Xbox 360. I just need to know which one is best.

The best cooler is no cooler. Don't bother with that crap. You bought it in October 2008 which means you got a Falcon unit with two heatsinks. Just take care of your unit. Do what Olie said in his first paragraph minus not keeping discs in when it's not in use. That's just stupid. Keep the discs in. It's probably better not to keep opening and closing the tray anyway. Do NOT move the 360 when there's something in there though.

RRoD is a major problem with first generation 360s. Falcon units are generally okay and the new Jasper units should be even better.

PS: I mean it when I say the best cooler is no cooler. There are reports that some of the coolers actually help RRoD a system -_-

Coolers make it easier to RROD, don't bother. Also last time I put mine vertically it fell and the disc that was inside broke. 2008 models shouldn't be RRODing anyways, so you should be ok.

Nyko Intercooler is actually the one that is reported the most to cause the RROD although I wouldn't trust any other cooler because they can all have the same chance of screwing up your console.

Check out this old article about the irony of Nyko Intercooler.

What is worse about the coolers is if your console does get the RROD through using a third-party device, Microsoft won't repair your console because it voids your warranty. Probably best not to buy a cooler, especially since you should have the Falcon model as mentioned earlier.

You could always consider taking one of the plastic covers off letting TONS of cool air to flow in and out. (you can put it back in if needed, and nobody would even know so no warranty problems).

I've been using Nykos and it has been working fine so far.
