"XBXRX: an animalistic seizure of grunts and yips. No redeeming value, but it’s interesting to note that even after enduring their assaultive, dry-humping-of-the-ear “songs”, everyone applauded politely. I did as well, but I kind of really meant “fuck you”. Nice ties. Lucky for them I had already paid. I felt sorry for the mothers of the guys in XBXRX. It must be hard to watch your children grow up and then follow their dreams and go off into the world to perform music, when it so totally blows."
hahaha, what an amazing review. im not sure that many of you are going to like this band. in fact, i doubt that many of you will. but i know for sure there are some on this forum that will definitely be intrigued if they havent heard of XBXRX already (spies, ecnemalas, possibly xerces). XBXRX have been around for awhile, and have toured with some awesome noisy semi-hardcore legends like holy molar/the locust/some girls.
anyhow, if you like really weird, thrashy, garagey shit, then this is for you. theyre kind of like the blood brothers, only with a way more rough sound, and way more punk-influenced. i saw them live once, and was blown the fuck away, especially since it was at the most personal venue in existence. curiously, i discovered this band after downloading what was labelled a xiu xiu album. i was thoroughly surprised and impressed.
myspace: http://www.myspace.com/xbxrx "make force" and "beat rolls on" are the tracks of choice here, although sadly their myspace doesnt do them justice.
videos: http://youtube.com/watch?v=DPYKZTsZdoY pigs wear blue is a sweet song, but once again, nowhere near the best off the album sixth in sixes.
downloads: http://www.albumbase.com/download-268829-xbxrx-wars-m1-freemp3album sadly enough all you can download off albumbase is wars (since i cant find the mistakenly labelled sixth in sixes, as they must have taken it down), but i'll put up sixth in sixes shortly, as that is their best album, i find.
i dont know wars well enough to comment on many or any tracks of choice, but if you can get your hands on sixth in sixes before i put it up, or if you have a way of downloading individual songs, get "gold cross", "fabricated progression", and "hope until we can't".
