  • Deoxys-S's blistering Speed and access to both Stealth Rock and Spikes make it the most efficient entry hazard setter in the metagame. Stealth Rock is a valuable and hard to come by move in XY DOU, weakening prominent Pokemon such as Volcanion, Thundurus, and Kyurem-B. Spikes allows Deoxys-S to weaken grounded foes even further, limiting the number of times foes will want to switch and setting up pins for its offensive teammates. Deoxys-S also has a decent offensive presence, as most Pokemon that don't resist Psycho Boost will take over 50% from it.
  • Psycho Boost OHKOes Deoxys-A and most Mega Gengar variants and deals massive blows to Assault Vest Conkeldurr and Amoonguss. Ice Beam can be used to threaten the omnipresent Landorus-T as well as Mega Salamence.
  • The Speed investment allows Deoxys-S to outspeed Mega Swampert in rain and OHKO Choice Scarf Landorus-T 13/16 of the time as well as 252 HP Mega Gengar. Maximum HP is mostly to have a solid benchmark defensive investment, but it is worth noting that this lets you survive Choice Band Talonflame's Brave Bird from full health.
  • Rocky Helmet chips Mega Kangaskhan, which would otherwise use Fake Out against Deoxys-S freely. Rocky Helmet also punishes other contact hits that will OHKO or significantly damage Deoxys-S like U-turn from Landorus-T and Genesect, Brave Bird from Talonflame, and Knock Off from Conkledurs. Lum Berry allows Deoxys-S to absorb status effects one time such as Thundurus's Thunder Wave or Amoonguss's Spore.
  • Deoxys-S thrives as a lead, prioritizing setting hazards that weaken many common Rock-weak foes in the metagame for its teammates to capitalize on later in the game. Its respectable bulk should let it set multiple hazards or threaten sizeable damage after setting Stealth Rock.
  • As it has a very vast movepool, Deoxys-S can run a variety of fourth move options over Spikes, such as Taunt, Hidden Power Fire for Genesect, Energy Ball for Mega Swampert and Gastrodon, Flash Cannon for Mega Diancie, and even the safe Protect. If you opt for a more offensive moveset, consider increasing your Special Attack investment and running Life Orb or Expert Belt to achieve your specific desired benchmarks.
  • Mega Kangaskhan is one of the best Pokemon to pair with Deoxys-S, as it can use Fake Out on the first turn to allow Deoxys-S to set Stealth Rock. Mega Kangaskhan can then finish off weakened foes with Seismic Toss late-game. Genesect, Talonflame, and Choice Scarf Landorus-T are fast and powerful attackers that can claim KOs much easier thanks to the hazards Deoxys-S provides. Bulky Assault Vest users like Volcanion and Conkeldurr make great teammates, as they excel at winning trades against chipped enemies. Aegislash is effectively a hard counter to Deoxys-S, so teams should prepare counters such as Overheat Volcanion, Life Orb Landorus, or Life Orb Bisharp to check it.

The HP and Defense (see note at end of line) investment is calculated to survive a Brave Bird from Choice Band Talonflame. The remaining EVs are placed into Special Defense, which lets Deoxys-S survive two Heat Waves from Volcanion. ("Its Defense investments lets it take a Choice Band Talonflame's Brave Bird, while its Special Defense investment survives max Special Attack Volcanion's Heat Wave twice.") is imo more succinct
  • Rocky Helmet is used as the item to chip chips Mega Kangaskhan who would otherwise Fake Out Deoxys-S freely. It also punishes other contact hits that it baits (clarify by changing it to phrasing like "common physical attackers that can OHKO/2HKO/KO/significantly damage") such as U-turn from Landorus-T and Genesect, Talonflame's Brave Bird, and Conkledurr's Knock Off.
  • Deoxys-S thrives as a lead, prioritizing setting hazards which weaken many common Rock-weak foes (and pivots) in the metagame for its teammates the rest of the team to capitalize on later in the game. Its bulk is respectable, meaning it respectable bulk should let it be able to set multiple hazards or threaten sizeable damage after setting Stealth Rock. In general, setting Stealth Rock should be the first priority for Deoxys-S, due to the numerous Rock-weak Pokemon in the metagame.
  • Mega Kangaskhan is one of the best Pokemon to pair with Deoxys-S, as it can use Fake Out on turn 1 (is this official terminology or do we use 'first turn' in analyses?) to allow Deoxys-S to set a hazard (wouldn't you say stealth rock here here? i think its rare you opt into spikes t1) and finish off weakened foes with Seismic Toss in the late game (it reads here like deo-s finishes off weakened foes, you can deduct from context its kang but i'd still make it a separate line or converge it w the next). Genesect, Talonflame, and Choice Scarf Landorus-T are fast and powerful attackers that can take KOes much easier thanks to the hazards Deoxys-S can provides. Bulky Assault Vest users like Volcanion and Conkeldurr make great teammates, as they excel at winning trades against chipped enemies.

  • Lum Berry is worth an item slash next to Rocky Helmet, not only for Thundurus but also to make Deoxys a more reliable Amoonguss check.
  • The listed spread is good, but I prefer an EV spread of 248 HP / 8 Def / 24 SpA / 4 SpD / 224 Spe to outspeed Scarf Landorus-I and OHKO it 13/16 times with Ice Beam. That speed investment also has the benefit of beating Mega Swampert in rain. Your call though.
  • Deoxys has a wide movepool with lots of useful options, so I think it'd be worth adding a bullet point on alternative moves over Spikes such as Flash Cannon, Energy Ball, and HP Fire.
