XY Double Battle Team

Alright, so I remade the team a bit with some suggestions from Pinoy Pwnage and I'll try to go into more detail. I'm new here and 6th gen is my first time competitive battling, so I'm still getting the hang of things. I'm also super new to doubles, so I need to start thinking differently with my setups to start doing really well.
P.S. I personally use these EV spreads to improve the stats I want my Pokémon to have. I've been battling for a while in 6th gen, and the 252/252/4 just doesn't always flow with me so I get a little crazy from time to time.

THE TEAM
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
LEAD
006.gif

Charizard
@ Charizardite Y

Nature:
Timid Ability: Blaze/Drought EVs: 252 Speed/252 Sp. Atk./4 HP
Moves
Heat Wave
Solar Beam
Fire Blast
Protect

Basically, Charizard is here to set up sunny weather and hit powerful Heat Waves on the opponent. With sunny weather, Water types have trouble hitting him hard and he has Solar Beam to get rid of them quickly. Flamethrower is a more powerful attack for when I want to hit a single Pokémon real hard, assuming it hits.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sweepers
212f.gif

Scizor
@ Choice Band

Nature:
Adamant Ability: Technician EVs: 252 Attack/248 HP/8 Speed
Moves
Bullet Punch
U-Turn
Pursuit
Brick Break

I replaced Tyranitar with Scizor because I feel he gives better coverage while having less troublesome weaknesses. He's here to team up with a boosted Haxorus and take care of Fairy and Ice types with Bullet Punch. With Choice Band and an Adamant nature, Scizor hits really hard and gets priority on his main stab. U-Turn is for Grass types and possibly Tyranitar that I don't feel will get taken down with Bullet Punch, or just for easy switch ins. Pursuit traps weak Psychic and Ghost types while Brick Break hits Tyranitar real hard (I worry about T-tar because I know his power).
612.gif

Haxorus @ Lum Berry
Nature:
Adamant Ability: Mold Breaker EVs: 252 Attack/136 Speed/120 HP

Moves
Dragon Claw
Earthquake
Poison Jab
Swords Dance

Haxorus has the highest base Attack stat of any non-legendary dragon, and that's something to be scared of! The reason I choose Adamant nature and these EVs is because most people don't lead with their Garchomps or Dragonites, so it gives Haxorus a chance to set up. Maxed out attack lets me know he can OHKO any Dragon out there after the Swords Dance. I replaced Outrage for Dragon Claw to be able to switch targets and know who I'm hitting. Earthquake needs almost no explanation, but Haxorus' Mold Breaker lets him hit Pokémon with Levitate and don't think they need to worry about it. Poison Jab is to make absolutely sure Haxorus doesn't get walled by Fairy types and can get a quick KO on unsuspecting Fairies.
065.gif

Alakazam @ Focus Sash
Nature:
Timid Ability: Magic Guard Evs: 252 Sp. Atk./252 Speed/4 HP

Moves
Psyshock
Shadow Ball
Dazzling Gleam
Focus Blast

Alakazam is hit hard and fast before being taken down. With Life Orb and Magic Guard, he gains the attack boost without the recoil. He can also take any status, including Infestation, other than Paralyze well as he will take no damage from them. Psyshock lets Alakazam hit STAB with his high special attack while taking down special defense tanks. Shadow Ball and Dazzling Gleam cover his and his teammates' weakness to Ghost and Dark, as well as his own. Focus Blast is saved almost entirely for Tyranitar.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stall Wall
trevenant.png

Trevenant
@ Sitrus Berry
Nature:
Adamant Ability: Harvest EVs: 252 HP/180 Deffense/96 Attack

Moves
Protect
Horn Leech
Will-O-Wisp
Leech Seed

Here's where Charizard Y's Drought comes in handy. With Harvest in the sun, Trevenant has an unlimited supply of Sitrus Berries, and getting Leech Life on an opponent while using Horn Leech means he will almost never faint. Shadow Claw is there for a good physical STAB move and to deal with Psychic types. Will-O-Wisp cripples physical threats like Mega Mawile, Mega Lucario, and Garchomp. If the sun is up, Trevenant can work well with any other Poké on the team by distracting the opponent and letting it's partners scare out his weaknesses as Charizard Y scares away Ice, Haxorus hits Fire hard with EQ, Scizor hits Ice with Bullet Punch and Dark with U-Turn and Brick Break, and Alakazam takes out Ghosts with Shadow Ball and Dark with Dazzling Gleam of Focus Blast.
468.gif

Togekiss @ Leftovers
Nature:
Calm Ability: Serene Grace EVs: 248 HP / 136 Sp. Def. / 124 Deffense

Moves
Thunder Wave
Air Slash
Follow Me
Dazzling Gleam

For this I'm trusting in Pinoy Pwnage entirely. Togekiss is here to let Haxorus get a Dragon Dance or two in before starting a sweep by using Follow Me. Thunder Wave paralyzes opponents to ensure Haxorus goes first and Air Slash gets them ParaFlinch hax going. Helping Hand is also illegal

dude edit your sets explanations, otherwise this thread will get locked. i cant rate your team until you fix that.

Hey, welcome to Smogon! And I'm glad to see more people are getting into Doubles now. :D This rate will be a little critical, but don't be offended; just trying to help out.

First Impressions

By looking at your team, I notice that it is built with a mindset of a Single Battle rather than a Double Battle. I can also see that you don't carry Protect on any of your Pokémon, which is an absolute staple to any team in the Doubles metagame. Without utilizing Protect, I can guarantee that you won't win matches consistently; many players use Protect to outplay and outpredict their opponent, as well as to scout and disrupt double targeting. Move choice is also a little strange on some of your sets, as well as your item choice. Like I mentioned earlier, your team looks more Singles-based and it doesn't seem too suited in Doubles.

Set Changes

To start off, I recommend replacing Dragon Pulse with Fire Blast on Charizard, as you already have Dragon-type coverage with Haxorus and Alakazam. Although you already carry an effective STAB spread move in Heat Wave, Fire Blast is a hard-hitting STAB move that can ignore common Wide Guard users such as Aegislash and Hitmontop. I also suggest that you take out Roost for Protect; you aren't utilizing a bulky set on Mega-Charizard-Y and its purpose is to act as special attacking sweeper. Protect allows for scouting and can mess up common double targeting strategies against Charizard. Furthermore, seeing as you haven't added natures to any member of your team, Charizard should carry a Timid nature to hit the base 100 speed tier and to match the speed of Jolly Mega-Kangaskhan.

As for Trevenant, the EVs you put on him are a little weird; I would consider using a spread of 252 HP / 96 Atk / 160 SpD along with an Adamant nature to maximize its offensive potential. The EV spread provided allows Trevenant to survive a STAB Shadow Ball from Modest Mega-Gengar and it also allows Trevenant to somewhat become a specially defensive wall that's difficult to take down. Also consider Protect > Leech Seed for the purpose of stalling while harvesting a Sitrus Berry or even stall out burn damage from its Will-O-Wisp. Substitute is also a viable option to shield against attacks that would otherwise OHKO it, and when paired with Harvest + Sitrus Berry, it makes for an annoying combination.

Since you are using a Dragon Dance set on Haxorus, your EV spread should be 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd with a Jolly nature to magnify its offensive capabilities and speed. I see no purpose of 120 HP EVs on him; he is just not bulky enough to withstand most attacks with or without that EV investment. Outrage in Doubles is an absolute no-no; you never know which opposing Pokémon you will hit, making it highly inconsistent. Dragon Claw > Outrage due to the fact you can't decide who you will attack with Outrage. Also, consider replacing Poison Jab with Rock Slide; Rock Slide guarantees that Volcarona, Talonflame, and Mega-Charizard-Y will be OHKO'ed and you also have some nice Bug-type and Flying-type coverage.

In my opinion, the Doubles metagame is far too fast paced for phazing such as your Stealth Rock + Whirlwind strategy. You should not be stalling (besides Trevenant) or phazing in Doubles; it just doesn't work. Skarmory also carries a measly base 70 Special Defense stat, and weaknesses to Fire-type and Electric-type moves make it prone to common attacks in Doubles such as Heat Wave and Thunderbolt. Therefore, I suggest taking Skarmory out of your team and replacing it with a Follow Me Togekiss.

468.png

Togekiss @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 248 HP / 136 SDef / 124 Def
Calm Nature
- Thunder Wave
- Air Slash
- Follow Me
- Helping Hand

Togekiss has amazing synergy with Haxorus; it allows Haxorus to set up a Dragon Dance by using Follow Me to redirect super-effective attacks such as Draco Meteor and Dragon Claw to Togekiss, who is immune to those Dragon-type moves. The given EV spread + Sitrus Berry absolutely amplifies the survivability of Togekiss due to the fact it can take a number of strong attacks. Thunder Wave is great for speed control, slowing down potential threats and crippling powerful sweepers and when paired with its Serene Grace ability and Air Slash, it is difficult for the opponent to even have a chance to launch an attack. Helping Hand gives your partner a nice 1.5x attack boost which is useful for greater offensive power. You should highly consider using this guy. :D

The only change I would make to Alakazam is to give it a Timid nature and use a Focus Sash. The Timid nature lets Alakazam outspeed most Pokémon in the Doubles tier and the Focus Sash ensure he will be able to launch at least one effective attack.

Finally, if you are going to use a Choice item on Tyranitar, a Choice Scarf should be utilized instead of a Choice Band. Tyranitar already has a high enough attack stat at a powerful base 134 Attack, and a Choice Scarf allows him to outspeed and deal significant damage to the opponent before taking damage himself. By the way, Pursuit isn't viable in Doubles (mostly on Tyranitar) due to the fact people don't switch out as much as they do in Singles and given the fact STAB Crunch is much more consistent.

248.png

Tyranitar @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Unnerve
EVs: 76 HP / 182 Atk / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Rock Slide
- Crunch
- Low Kick
- Ice Beam

STAB Rock Slide is great spread move and since Tyranitar will most likely outspeed, you might even get that occasional flinch hax. ;) Low Kick allows Tyranitar to OHKO Bisharp while also dealing heavy damage to opposing Tyranitars. You can also use Superpower if you want more power (120 BP) but the downside to this is a -1 Atk and Def drop. Ice Beam is great for coverage against threats such as Landorus-T and Garchomp, 2HKOing both of these threats. The invested 76 HP gives Tyranitar a little added bulk and the Unnerve ability won't interfere with Charizard's Drought while also preventing your opponent from eating their precious berries.

Final Comments

Anyway, good luck with your team! Hope I helped bro. :)

Ok this has to be quick since i have to go in like 30 min

1. Use Helping Hand on Togekiss, it isnt illegal.
2. Replace Horn Leech / Shadow Claw on trev for Protect, Change Leech Life to Leech Seed.
3. Replace Life Orb on Alakazam for Sash and give him Timid. Do as pinoy said.
4. You might want to change Scizor to Talonflame since he deals with Fairies just as well, and priority kills Skymin and some other things, also doesnt gets hit by Haxorus EQs.
5. Give Togekiss a Sitrus berry

That's all that i can think of at the moment, if you dont know the set for Talon just say it and i'll give you some options

I edited the first post, so now Alakazam has the Focus Sash. I can't get Togekiss with Helping Hand because she can only get that move from DX and I don't have that game or a way to transfer one with it to my game. I'm giving Togekiss Leftovers because my Trevenant has Sitrus Berry and it's essential to how I use him as it covers up for his less than phenomenal bulk. Also, Leech Life was supposed to be Leech Seed. Typo on my part.

I believe Helping Hand is legal on Togekiss if you receive the special Togetic from Pokémon Colosseum. You can easily use a Helping Hand Togekiss if you are battling on the Pokémon Showdown! Server but if you're playing the game on cartridge then yes; it's near impossible to get a Togekiss with Helping Hand.

Anyway, let's get back to rating. :D I understand you're a little new to the competitive battling scene and that you're a little adamant on simple 4 / 252 / 252 EV spreads, but most really do work. Just because they are simple doesn't mean that they aren't effective. I still don't see the purpose of investing 120 HP EVs onto Haxorus. Haxorus carries an average 76 / 90 / 70 bulk and since you are using him as a physical sweeper with Dragon Dance, I highly recommend that you use the 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd spread I suggested in my previous post along with a Jolly nature. Poison Jab is okay, however consider Rock Slide because it's a great spread move for Flying-type and Bug-type coverage and you might even get that occasional flinch hax.

As for your newly added member in Scizor, the Choice Band set you have on him is pretty solid, but I just want to offer some other possible options you can use on him. You can also use a Life Orb so that Scizor won't get locked into a single move and this also allows him to utilize Protect. Superpower (120 BP) hits threats such as Tyranitar and Heatran pretty hard but at an expense if a -1 Atk and Def stat. Bug Bite (90 BP with Technician) is also a pretty powerful STAB move that deals significant damage while taking away common held items such as the Sitrus Berry and Chesto Berry. Also note that Max Attack Scizor with a Technician-boosted Bug Bite 2HKOs Max HP and Max Def Cresselia with a Bold Nature 68% of the time.

One nitpick I have on Trevenant is to seriously change his EV spread to the one I recommended in my last post; a 252 HP / 96 Atk / 160 SpD with an Adamant nature. In the XY Doubles metagame, Shadow Ball and Heat Waves are much more common than Flare Blitz and Shadow Claw. Besides, most physical sweepers can be crippled by his Will-O-Wisp anyway. Not only that, you should really give Trevenant Protect > Leech Seed. Protect is an absolute staple to the Doubles meta and you already have good recovery with Horn Leech and Sitrus Berry + Harvest. Protect let's you have a free turn to recycle an already used Sitrus Berry and you can stall out burn damage you've inflicted onto the opponent.

Overall your team is looking pretty solid! Looks like you're gonna turn into a pretty good Doubles player. :)

From my personal use, the boost for Haxorus' HP and a Defensive based Trevenant have helped me so many times. Leech Life was supposed to be Leech Seed and he now has Protect instead of Shadow Claw. Haxorus' upped HP helped him tank hits I don't think he could have taken otherwise, so it does come in handy and after a Dragon Dance or 2, it doesn't matter what EVs are in Speed. Thanks for all the suggestions and I will keep them in mind, but this team is working for me right now.

No problem. :) But one more thing, if you do add Talonflame you're gonna end up having three members on your team weak against Rock-type moves such as Rock Slide (Talonflame and Mega-Charizard-Y are 4x weak). I suggest you keep Scizor because you already have Togekiss for speed control and support. Togekiss also has access to Tailwind if you want another option for speed advantage.

OK, since lots of people said things I wanted to say.

1. I think Deo-A would be better. A Psycho Boost/ Knock Off/Superpower/Protect set woud be great. Kill stuff with phycho boost, knock off items and psychics, and superpower for dark types

2. On Scizor, Superpower would be good over brick break. the damage output is much larger and after 1 attack scizor is probably going to switch

3. This one is entirely up to you. you can replace twave for roost or protect. haxorus' speed is boosted so i think protect would fit better as protect lets you take attacks if your opponent predicts follow me

gl!
