MY POWERHOUSE TEAM

Hi! I've been battling competitively now for around 1 and a half years. I mainly focus on singles but I'm starting to learn vgc. I like to use powerhouse pokemon and water types because there are so many good ones. Please give some critiques down below. I would really appreciate it. Currently in ou I'm in the 1300-1400 range on the ladder and hoping to get to at least 1500.

Chomp champ
(Garchomp) (M) @ Rocky Helmet
Rocky-helmet.png

Ability: Rough Skin
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Outrage - Earthquake
- Swords Dance - Iron Head

Garchomp is here mainly for speed coverage but can pack a punch. Outrage is his main move and very powerful with a boost. Earthquake is his secondary move and is used when steel or rock types come out which helps counter Mawile and Aegislash. Iron head is for those pesky faries, Garchomp's speed utilizes Iron head's 30% flinch rate as well. The rocky helmet compliments Garchomp's ability rough skin to counter the multitude of physical counters Garchomp and my other members can face.

Frouge
(Greninja) (F) @ Expert Belt
Expert_Belt_Bag.png

Ability: Protean
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Extrasensory - Ice Beam
- Scald - Dark Pulse

Greninja helps with move coverage and can inflict freeze and burn to help with physical attacks. Extrasensory for poison and fighting, That speed takes advantage of the 20% flinch rate. Ice beam counters those dragon, flying, ground and grass types , giving great coverage, as well as having a possibility to freeze. Scald is great for those Talonflames and other powerful fire types, as well as rock coverage, also inflicting a 30% chance to burn. Dark pulse is to cover most of the types extrasensory can't like ghost and psychic. The expert belt goes well with all the types used for the moves. Protean adding that second boost and some mind games with the type shifting.

Dusk
(Gengar) (F) @ Wise Glasses
Wise_Glasses_Bag.png

Ability: Levitate
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Shadow Ball - Sludge Bomb
- Hypnosis - Focus Blast

Gengar is also very speedy and is good countering opponents in mid sweep. He's more of a revenge killer and someone to clean up due to her incredible speed. Shadow ball is a great, simple move that helps with aegislash and psychic types. I picked sludge bomb over sludge wave for that extra 20% chance for poison. Hypnosis is great for shutting down those threats mid game. Gengar's speed helps bring that sleep status faster. Focues blast for those steel, rock, normal, ice and dark types. Wise glasses helps boost that sp.atk even higher.

Sylph
(Sylveon) (F) @ Pixie Plate
Bag_Pixie_Plate_Sprite.png

Ability: Pixilate
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
- Draining Kiss - Calm Mind
- Hyper Voice - Shadow Ball

Draining kiss for when the other poke is under half hp for some addition hp and saves pp for my other moves. Calm mind adds a boost to her sp.atk and sp.def for additional sweeping power. Hyper voice is her main move. With it's power boosted by pixilate, then the pixie plate ,then by STAB AND possibly boosted by calm mind. Shadow ball adds coverage for pokemon that counter fairy. The pixie plate is mainly used to boost hyper voice's power. So is her ability.

shellfish
(Cloyster) (M) @ Focus Sash
Focus_Sash_Sprite.png

Ability: Skill Link
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
- Shell Smash - Rock Blast
- Icicle Spear - Ice Shard

My main guy. he's swept whole teams on his own, 3 times, I tend to use him as my lead to avoid him coming in to hazards and wear out the team for the others to finish off. Shell smash is that all-important move that helps him sweep I will almost always use this on the first turn of him out. Rock blast counters the fire types that icicle spear can't. Icicle spear is his main move due to STAB and more coverage. Ice shard is for priority if you know the next move the opponent is using a priority move that will knock you out you use this to add some extra damage before he dies. Focus sash allows me to set up and not die from thunderbolt or something of that nature. Skill link is of course to allow maximum damage to be dealt and break substitutes.

talonflame.gif

Pyro
(Talonflame) (F) @ Muscle
Muscle_Band_Sprite.png

Ability: Gale Wings
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird - Flare Blitz
- Swords Dance - U-turn

Talonflame covers those bug and grass types and is there generally because she's just generally good at being a great pokemon in OU. Brave bird is a great psychical move, and aided by gale wings and STAB it can be very powerful. Although the recoil for it and flare blitz isn't very good for her I didn't plan for her to stay in that long anyway, she's mainly for picking off one or two pokemon. Swords dance allows her to boost if I am able to get one off. U-turn adds extra coverage and momentum and maybe some mindgames. Muscle band increases the power even more. Meaning I could possibly 1HKO some pokemon.

CONCLUSION

I mainly have a powerhouse team revolving around setup with physical and special pokemon.
With Cloyster being the main ones to sweep, the others are mainly support and backup.

QUESTIONS

I know the main thing I have to do is get a wall but who should I replace?

Should I have a status and/or hazard pokemon?

What weaknesses does my team have?

What improvements should I make for my team?

Thank you for reading! Any suggestions would be great!

If you're gonna get a Fairy powerhouse, go for Gardevoir/Azumarill. Also, Landorus and Scizor can steamroll through your team with ease, Lucario is also a pain in the ass. Also, your team does not have much defensive synergy so STAB neutral attack and even coverage moves can easily rip through your team.

Hey stalagamite cool team! I do have a few suggestions however. Your team seems really annoyed by hazards, stealth rocks specifically as you have talonflame who takes over half upon entry and knocks itself out with its recoil moves. For this i sugggest rapid spin on cloyster over ice shard that way you can get off a last minute spin and better support the talonflame. I also suggest sky plate over muscle band on talonflame since the most likely move you will be going for is brave bird and with the damage output from bravebird + the fact you have uturn, you can bluff the choice item. Seeing as how hazards are a problem i think a taunt will-o-wisp set on gengar with shadowball and sludgebomb would better support your team. This also helps you catch those mons like scizor who try to set up on you and sweep you. Hypnosis accuracy is a bit too shake imo and burn benefits your team a bit more, giving easier set up for other mons. Black sludge over glasses can work for that added recovery. My last suggestion is removing irong head on garchomp and replacing it with stealth rocks as you have no hazards on your team and +2 eq should be enough for those pesky fairy types. Anyway man cool team and hope i helped!
