XY OU Team #3 Nidoking Nuke

So this is my third team Ive been testing on showdown, and I have to say it might be one of the better teams Ive made since I started understanding the competitive side to Pokemon.

Anywho, when I was making my second team I ended up trying Nidoking as a special sweeper. He really didn't really work out on the team, but I was impressed with what I saw. So I ended up trying to build a team around him. It took a little time to figure out what to do. I originally wanted to boost both Speed and his Sp.Attack, but that would require a Baton Pass Chain, something I am not really interested in. So I stuck with Speed. I did try some defensive oriented pokes on the team, but they just didn't seem to sync with me or the team. Im not saying this team is hyper Offensive (im not really sure what a Hyper Offensive team is), but it defiantly leans to a more offense type team than a defensive one.

Any who, here's what Im currently running (All sets come from Smogon).

Nidoking (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature
- Earth Power
- Ice Beam
- Flamethrower
- Sludge Wave

I like how Nidoking works. As long as Im not up against anything Bulky, I can pretty much OHKO it. And with some Speed boosts under its belt, Nidoking is Near unstoppable. However, if I do find that he does have some difficulty with said Bulkier pokes.

Scolipede @ Black Sludge
Ability: Speed Boost
EVs: 248 HP / 208 SDef / 52 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Baton Pass
- Substitute
- Protect
- Megahorn

Scolipede is my Speed boost generator and 99.9 percent of the time, the poke I lead with. I originally tried Ninjask in this spot, but I found him to squishy. I went with a Baton Pass set so I could as many Speed Boosts as possible, and maybe even a sub to pass along. I opted for Megahorn in the last slot, as I found having a Full set of Support type moves crippled me far too often.

Heracross @ Heracronite
Ability: Swarm
EVs: 40 HP / 252 Atk / 216 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- Earthquake
- Rock Blast
- Pin Missile

Heracross is my Mega on this team. I solely use him for his Mega, so his ability when Not M.Evolved does not matter. Ive opted for CC over Sword Dance for another STAB move, plus I just wanna be able to start wreaking with him, rather than spend a turn on him to set up. As with Nidoking, this guy likes some speed boost passes. He is also my answer to other Baton passer teams, as he is bale to deal with Subs a bit easier thanks to skill link.

Goodra @ Assault Vest
Ability: Gooey
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SAtk
Modest Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Fire Blast
- Thunderbolt
- Focus Blast

Goodra is more of my Bulky Sp.Attacker. I also find that with Nidoking, they have rather good coverage. I am, however, not 100 percent sure id gooey is my best option. I have been thinking that maybe Sap sipper may be the better option, though in not really sure.

Bisharp @ Black Glasses
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- Sucker Punch
- Iron Head
- Pursuit

I am rather unsure of Bisharp's role on this team, But whatever it is he does it well. I went with Black glasses to up Knock off's and Sucker Punch's power, both of which have helped me greatly. I have been finding that pursuit has not really been useful to me. Dont get me wrong, there have been times where Ive gotten a few KOes off of it, but in general, I dont find it really helps me as much as it could.

Talonflame (F) @ Sharp Beak
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 192 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def / 60 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Brave Bird
- Flare Blitz
- Roost
- Swords Dance

TalonFlame is the newest addition. And well hes pretty straight forward. Revenge Killer/ Cleaner is his role. I personally prefer this set over the LO set, as I find the LO set has a bit too much recoil damage for my liking.

And there's my team. Some other things ive been thinking are as follows:

-Having a Defogger to clear entry hazards
-Stealth rock Setter for easier OH-KO's

As for a threat list, so far, Ive only really found that a more defensively built Heatran causes major problems to this team. (namely Air Ballon for item and them Torment/lavaplume/ Sub and Protect). Im not saying this is the only one, but in my testing, I found this one to totally just WREAK my team.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Two things I would recommend:
  1. Life Orb on your Bisharp. I know he has mainly dark moves, but if you're thinking of getting rid of Pursuit it might be good to look into so you can get bigger hits on all of your moves.
  2. Because you don't like Life Orb on Talonflame, you should try Choice Band for high damage with no SD required (though you'll need to change the moves) or Leftovers to heal off a bit of recoil.
If you're thinking about having a Defogger, I think you might want to look at Latios if you plan on keeping a focus on offence. You can replace Goodra, but then you'd be losing some of the bulk on your team, which it has very little of.

As for a Stealth Rocker, you can replace a move of your choice with it on Nidoking if you want. Another option would be to run Tyranitar over something on your team (probably one of your physical attackers) and have it with Stealth Rocks. He'll keep a nice focus on offence.

Thanks for input.

1. As I plan on making this team in-game at some point, I kinda have to follow the Item clause. I might end up keeping pursuit, cause if I change the team, maybe pursuit would then be handy to have. That said, Im not all really sure what would be good to replace pursuit with in the first place.

2. I personally have issues with Choice Band sets. I know 99 percent of the time im gonna be using Brave Bird, but I like having the option to switch my moves around freely. I have looked at leftovers, but Im still on the fence with that. If I go with Leftovers, would I have to change the Ev's at all?

As for Latios, I stay away from using Legends. Is there another option I could use here?

Id rather Keep Nidoking as is. I haven't looked into T-Tar as of yet. Now, do you mean Normal T-Tar or Mega T-Tar (As I am using Y, I don't have access to getting his Mega Stone if I use said team in game.) Also which of my physical attackers would be the best to replace?

If pursuit is not your thing on bisharp change it to swords dance this allows bisharp to come in on stuff like latios and lati@s and set up so it van maybe nab a few kills before its sweep ends. For a defogger how about trying tentacruel or empoleon over goodra because these are the bulkiest deffoggers Without using legendaries and empoleon can set up stealth rocks. Baton pass scolipede is terrible because it can be phazed away by almost anything that is bulky like heatran or skarm. To replace this set a swords dance late game sweeper would be a better option because of its speed and power.

Scolipede@life orb
Adamant
252 ATK/252 SPE/ 4 DEF
-swords dance
-megahorn
-poison jab
-earthquake

This set will struggle to get past skarmory but if you place well it should not be a problem.

Have fun making your team :)

Sword dance, Hm? Ill look into that.

Ah, Okay, Ill look into those two. Though I think I might lean a little more towards Empoleon. (Not really a fan of Tentacruel, that and I would have 3 pokes with the poison typing)

I understand what your saying about Scolipede. The thing is I that I find the Baton Pass set of Scolipede a major necessity to allow Nidoking to wreak things . When I made Scolipede I was well aware of this rather Major flaw.

Thanks for the advice and thanks!

I would just like to tell you that using Scolipede to baton pass to something who has really similar weaknesses is not to great, other than that great team even tough i have some nitpicks. Give ure talonflame either a shell bell or a choice band the latter makes u survive longer but the decrease in power is notable and this is why i prefer choice band. Its all up to u to but IMO Staraptor beats Talonflame( not one a 1 vs 1 tough) due to having much more power, its scarf set is actually more powerful then a banded Talonflame!!! It has much better coverage most notably CC which enables it to work past bulky rocks whereas Talonflame has to resort to shitty Steel wing.

Nidoking isn't the only one I baton Pass to. M.Hera and Bisharp are also recipitants of speed boosts and even a sub.

Ive already explained my standing on giving Talon a Choice Item, and I am also looking into a healing item on Talon, possibly.

And thanks, glad you like the team so far. I did actually end up putting Empoleon on the team (relalced Goodra ATM)to test out as a defogger. Im happy so far, but I might need to tweak it a bit before im 100% happy with it to actually say ill keep it permanently.

So I mentioned that I switched Goodra to Empoleon. Im currently using:

Empoleon @ Air Balloon/leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 76 SAtk / 180 SDef
Bold Nature
- Defog
- Scald
- Grass Knot
- Ice Beam

I went with Max Hp for bulk, 180 Sp.Def and a Bold nature to balance out his Defenses. 76 Sp.Att to give him at least a little bit of Oomph.

Defog is the reason why Im using him. I felt that trying to fit a Steath Rock user would be a little to difficult (though Im still looking into it). I feel the last three slots are pretty much standard, from other sets ive looked at. My only issue is the item at this point. I originally had leftovers, which gave him some more bulk and staying power. But I then noticed that my team is VERY weak to EQ. So I am currently trying an Air balloon (hence why it is first in the slash).

I am currently happy with how it performs, getting rid of entry hazards, and occasionaly getting a KO.
