XY overused - Kanto Themed - First Team

Hello everyone, I'm new here and I would really appreciate it if anyone could rate my Competitive Kanto Themed XY Team. I am open to improvements and constructive criticism. If you are suggesting a different pokemon please make sure it is from the Kanto Region due to the fact that O am trying to make a competitive Kanto Themed Team as suggested above.

Team Overview

Venasaur
@ Venasaurite
Ability: Thick Fat
EV's: 252 HP/ 252 Sp. Def/ 4 Def
Calm Nature
- Sludge Bomb
- Giga Drain
- Leach Seed
- Synthesis

Venasaur is my mega because I really like the bulk of Venasaur as well as it's stalling capabilities. He is a special wall and is very capable of taking stab special fire and ice moves if he needs to due to his thick fat ability. He knows sludge bomb for stab as well as the odd poisoning. Giga Drain is stab and I can gain a large amount of HP increasing venasaur's durability. Leach Life can set up a gradual HP gain for other pokemon if I switch out. Synthesis is my last resort move if Venasaur really needs some HP back fast.

_______________________________________________________________________________________

Lapras @ Leftovers
Ability: Shell Armour
EV's: 252 HP/ 252 Sp. Def/ 4 Def
Calm Nature
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

I chose Lapras due to its bulkiness as well as it's walling capabilities. It completely walls special attacks and can take a thunderbolt if it needs to. Leftovers allow Lapras to regain HP each turn to increase its durability. I have Surf and Ice Beam for stab as well as coverage. Rest allows Lapras to regain HP and whilst also ridding itself of any status problem like poisoning. Sleep talk allows Lapras to attack whilst he is asleep.
_______________________________________________________________________________________

Alakazam @ Focus sash
Ability: Inner Focus
EV's: 252 Sp. Atk/ 252 Speed/ Sp. Defense
Modest Nature
- Psychic
- Psyshock
- Dazzling Gleam
- Focus Blast

I chose Alakazam so I can use him as a fast special sweeper. The Focus Sash allows him to live and get at least one attack in before he faints. His moves are mainly for coverage. I am using Psyshock so I can break special walls like Blissey and Mega Venasur.
_______________________________________________________________________________________

Gengar @ Black Sludge
Ability: Levitate
EV's: 252 Sp. Atk/ 252 Speed/ 4 Sp. Def
Timid Nature
- Sludge Bomb
- Shadow Ball
- Substitute
- Confuse Ray

Gengar may be one of my favourites on this team. He acts as an annoyer/sweeper. He can hide behind a substitute then confuse his foe whilst also poisoning with stab sludge bomb. Shadow ball is also for stab and coverage. Gengar had the black sludge so that he can regain his lost HP from the substitute. In my humble opinion this set works well and has saved me in quite a few matches.
_______________________________________________________________________________________

Dragonite @ Muscle Band? (Thinking about a life orb)
Ability: Multiscale
EV's: 252 Atk/ 252 Speed/ 4 Def
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Outrage
- Earthquake
- Fire Punch

I chose Dragonite so I can use him as a physical sweeper. If he gets a chance to get a couple dragon dances he is quite good. Not sure whether a muscle band, life orb, or something else would be an appropriate item? He knows fire punch for coverage as he is basically my only counter for pokemon like scissor and ferrothorn.
_______________________________________________________________________________________

Tauros @ Muscle Band (open to suggestions with item as I'm not too sure. Perhaps life orb?)
Ability: Intimidate
EV's: 252 Atk/ 252 Speed/ 4 Def
Jolly Nature
- Giga Impact
- Wild Charge
- Earthquake
- Zen Headbutt

I chose Tauros as it is a reasonably fast sweeper with great move coverage. I am open to suggestions with item though as I'm not too sure. Wild Charge, Earthquake and Zen Headbutt are strong moves I use for countering pokemon that my other team member cannot. Giga Impact is my stab last ditch effort attack I use when I am about to faint.

Thanks in advance for the suggestions. I have been playing pokemon for 11+ years however only just got interested in the competitive battling side of things so am very new to this. I did my best with the explanations so I hope this is adequate.

Venusaur seems fine, Lapras set is OK although personally I find Lapras is unfortunately a bit underwhelming in OU you could perhaps replace it with something like zapdos who is fairly bulky with a solid recovery move.
With gengar I recommend Will o wisp over confuse ray as that is too situational for my liking.

I recommend you use this for Dragonite, a fairly standard set:
Dragonite @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Multiscale
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 HP
Adamant Nature
- Extreme Speed - Priority for revenge Killing
- Dragon Dance - Set up move prior to scale being broken for needed speed boost
- Outrage - Stab
- Fire Punch - Coverage

I would personally replace Alakazam with starmie who is somewhat similar but provides rapid spin which would be helpful for making sure Multiscale doesn't get broken:
Starmie @ Life Orb
Ability: Analytic
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Timid Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Psyshock
- Rapid Spin

With tauros i would personally go with something like this:
Tauros @ Choice band
Ability: Intimidate
EV's: 252 Atk/ 252 Speed/ 4 Def
Jolly Nature
- Return/Frustration
- Wild Charge
- Earthquake
- Zen Headbutt

These are all just suggestions, So take what you think helps :)

For one thing, you have two special walls, Venusaur and Lapras, but no physical walls. Either change venusaur to a mixed/physical wall or possibly replace lapras. A good replacement for lapras that would be a physical wall, following your theme of course, would be blastoise or weezing.
A possible set for Blastoise would be:

Blastoise @ Leftovers
Ability: Rain Dish/Torrent
EVs: 252 hp/252 defense/4 sp defense or 4 sp attack
Bold Nature
- Iron Defense/Rapid Spin
- Scald
- Roar/Dragon Tail
- Toxic

This is a stalling blastoise, with iron defense to boost its defense, or rapid spin to take out Stealth Rocks/sticky webs.
Roar/Dragon tail to get rid of set up sweepers and people you can't stall, like heatran/aegislash. And toxic is the move to that lets you stall them out.
A possible set for Weezing would be:

Weezing @ Black Sludge/Salac Berry
Ability: Leftovers
EVs: 252 hp/252 defense/4 sp defense
Bold Nature
- Will-O-Wisp/Toxic
- Clear Smog
- Pain Split/Destiny Bond
- Fireblast/Thunderbolt/Destiny Bond

This is a stalling weezing. Bold to boost its defense while lowering one of the stats it doesn't need. Use salac berry if you are using destiny bond. Salac berry makes you move first if you are at (1/3 I think) Health, letting you destiny bond before the opponent attacks you, killing your attacker. Will-o-wisp is best when used against physical attackers, but it is good against anybody but fire types. Toxic deals more damage over time, but doesn't work as well against physical attackers, poison types, or steel types. Clear smog is to get rid a setup sweeper's bonuses, and can be used while effected by taunt.

For dragonite, I would make his set look more like this:

Dragonite @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Multiscale
EV's: 252 Atk/ 252 Speed/ 4 Hp
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance/ExtremeSpeed/Roost/Earthquake
- Outrage/Dragon Claw
- Earthquake/ExtremeSpeed/Roost/Dragon Dance
- Fire Punch

This one can tank a super effective hit because of the multiscale. If it gets hit super effectively on the first turn, weakness policy puts you at 2x attack and 2x sp attack. I would pick dragon claw over outrage for the reason that they might switch into a fairy type, and you don't have a lum berry, leaving you to hurt yourself. Earthquake can be interchangeable with Extreme speed, as Earthquake has more coverage but Extreme speed has priority for when you are at low health. Roost can heal you up. This is a pretty standard dragonite set, so people will expect it. That is the main problem with the set that I listed.
Another set could be:

Dragonite @ Lum Berry
Ability: Multiscale
EV's: 252 Atk/ 252 Speed/ 4 Def
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Outrage
- Earthquake/ExtremeSpeed/Roost
- Fire Punch

That team uses Outrage, one of the most powerful dragon moves. The only difference from your set is Lum Berry to cure your confusion/burns.

For Tauros, I would probably give him life orb, as you mentioned. Or maybe choice scarf/band? But the choice removes all versatility from it, and negates the need for giga impact.

Keep in mind that these are just suggestions and they may/may not work the way you want them to. You do not have to make these changes, but take them into consideration at least.

You're missing out on Tauros' power! Sheer Force is an amazing move on him. With the ability, you get a boosted Rock Climb, Zen Headbutt an Rock Slide which is pretty nice coverage. Plus that's coming off of a nice attack and speed. I'd recommend a set like this:

Tauros @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EV's: 252 Atk/ 252 Spe / 4 HP
Jolly Nature
- Rock Climb/Return
- Rock Slide
- Earthquake
- Zen Headbutt

This makes use of Tauros' amazing ability. Return does less damage than Rock Climb but it has perfect accuracy if you are worried about that. Double edge is also an option if you aren't worried about recoil.

Thanks everyone so much for the help so far. I really liked the option of using Starmie and Blastoise however I think Blastoise may suit my team better as it is a physical wall whilst also being a rapid spinner. I'm also going to use one of the Dragonite sets and Tauros sets that was suggested. I will post my updated team movesets but it would be great to hear opinions on what to replace Alakazam with as I am not entirely happy with it and I feel as though another pokemon may fit my team better. I was thinking about Clefable (Life Orb?) as a replacement however I am not sure whether this would be appropriate for my team or not? updates will be in bold.

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Thanks for your help in advanced.

Clefable can play two roles effectively due to two abilities it owns. Magic guard clefable is great for switching into things that want to use status which is helpful as you have stall on your team whereas Oblivious clefable can easily switch into anything that has had a chance to set up.
Clefable @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SAtk
Bold Nature
- Calm Mind
- Moonblast
- Soft Boiled
- Flamethrower
Is the standard magic guard set, calm mind helps buffen up Special defense and as such the EV's are better placed in defence, Clefable is great this gen especially at blocking outrage and setting up :)

the oblivious set comes in handy as well, but it depends more on if you give your opponent a chance to set up.

Hm,the sets have to be fixed quite a bit.
