Hello! Thanks for taking the time to look at my first sixth gen RMT, which is an offensive team focused on Charizard-Y and to an extent anti-leads. I started playing competitive towards the tail end of gen 5, during which time I considered weather when teambuilding but never utilized a weather starter in OU. It might be the hipster in me, I'm not sure, but when X/Y came out with a cool new weather starter and a nerf that decreased the popularity of the playstyle, weather control became attractive to me. I have had some success with this team and am slowly climbing up to the 1800+ range. Progress has slowed for me with this team and I'd like some more eyes on it to help me notice dead spots and help me to fix them so that I can see how bright Y-zard can really shine.
Without further to-do, here's the team:
Latias (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Thunderbolt
- Healing Wish
- Defog
Latias has good special bulk with helpful resistances for this team. Its dragon typing resists the water damage that gets directed toward Rhyperior or Charizard as well as the electric attacks that might harm Charizard or the fire attacks directed at Genesect or Venusaur. I have speed and special attack maxed because I need some speed on this team and Latias does have the stats and movepool to force switches and do damage. Defog is one of two hazard clearing moves I use on this team (the other is Cloyster's Rapid Spin) and is incredibly useful in removing Stealth Rocks which can stop Charizard or Cloyster before they even get going. The main reason I chose Latias however was its access to Healing Wish, a move I fell in love with when I was using GGolbat's double dancer Landorus-T team last generation. Healing Wish letsme get more longevity out of Y-zard and Drought or bring back any of its other teammates who have been crippled or worn-down. Healing Wish is the only clerical type support I have on this team and it has turned games around for me.
Venusaur @ Black Sludge
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 HP
Adamant Nature
- Power Whip
- Earthquake
- Sleep Powder
- Hidden Power [Fire]
Originally when I picked Venusaur for the team I thought it might play head games with the opponent and make them wonder which pokemon on my team was my mega when they looked at the team preview, but I think having a Venusaur and a Charizard on the same team probably gives away what mega I'm using more than if I just had Charizard. That's not why I picked Venusaur though, I picked him because he has a typing that has good defensive synergy with Charizard, has respectable bulk, can utilize the sun set up by Y-Zard and resists both STABs from common threats like Azumarill and Rotom-W (I don't usually switch Venusaur into Rotom-W however since it's a physical moveset and would be crippled by Will-O-Wisp.) I'll lead with this if I see a Smeargle on the other team to absorb the sleep I also really like to use. I don't have Growth on here because the sun Y-Zard puts up doesn't last long enough for me to switch in Venusaur and then start setting up. I have Earthquake on here as my funny way of getting past non-scarf/balloon Heatran. I chose to go Physical with Chansey/Blissey in mind, although it hasn't been that useful for me to that end. HP Fire is -natured and there because I didn't know what else to put on there and I didn't want to change the nature to diminish Venusaur's natural bulk, since I don't invest EVs in it. HP Fire on this Venu 3HKOs Ferro I think, and I think that's outside of sun.
Cloyster @ Focus Sash
Ability: Skill Link
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 HP
Adamant Nature
- Icicle Spear
- Rock Blast
- Rapid Spin
- Shell Smash
Cloyster has been super useful for this team. When I saw that Deoxys-S and Deoxys-D were OU I copped smogon's uber anti-lead set from last gen. It's really nice having multiple ways of clearing hazards, and with the sash this thing can usually take at least one thing down. At times when looking at the opponent's team preview I'll decide that Cloyster will be my main sweeper.
Rhyperior @ Choice Band
Ability: Solid Rock
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Rock Blast
- Fire Punch
- Megahorn
This is my unstealthy rock. I had Talonflame in mind when I picked Rhyperior for my team. Unless the opponent predicts my Rhyperior entering on their Talonflame and they use U-turn, Rhyperior can eat anything Talonflame throws at it and hit the opponent's team with a huge choice banded attack that will leave dents in pretty much anything. With the sun up Fire Punch can be a fine attack to be locked into, and if I get lucky with RNG Rock Blast will straight up kill things that don't resist it. It also absorbs Thunder Wave and is pretty much the only thing that forces Blissey or Chansey to switch out.
Charizard @ Charizardite Y
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Fire Blast
- Roost
- Solar Beam
- Focus Blast
Using Charizard Y makes me feel like a Pokemon master. In mega form with the sun up, Fire Blast can 3HKO uninvested Latias and OHKO uninvested Kyurem-B. It has impressive special bulk and with the sup and full HP it's not going to be OHKOed by much outside of a rock type attack. EVs are to make Charizard as fast as possible. Roost is used to give it longevity, since sometimes I may just want to get some sun up for Venusaur to do work. Solar Beam is a powerful coverage move in the sun and Focus Bust is for T-tar but more specifically Heatran, since if T-tar is still around threatening my Charizard before I bring him in, I've fucked up. If Charizard ends up standing alone past Drought or another weather inducer does switch in, this moveset has an accuracy problem.
Genesect @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Download
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 Atk
Hasty Nature
- U-turn
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
- Flamethrower
I love Genesect, he's so bad. This is a pretty standard set. He's my scout and revenge-killer. The moveset and EVs are special inclined since his special movepool is much better than his physical IMO. I felt like I needed some U-turning or Volt Switching on my team and Genesect is always the first pokemon that comes to my mind when I consider that playstyle. He can make a great cleaner as well.
The team in action (for now these are just battles that I've won since I didn't keep the links to any that I lost before this, but I'll be updating this to show how hard it is for me to play around some threats. This just shows how I'm playing with the team:)

Threats as I've so far identified them:
Mega Lucario: If this thing sets up a Swords Dance I can only hope that my Genesect is still alive and at full health.
Greninja: It outspeeds most of my team and can hit me hard.
Chansey/Blissey: These blobs kill the momentum of my team.
Heatran: Other than Focus Bust, this guy resists everything my main sweepers run.
THANKS FOR ANY HELP!
