ORAS NU Ye Olde Mr. Skeltal' Pink Fiesta!

Ye Olde Mr. Skeltal' Pink Fiesta!

Hey guys, it's Jariibo with my second RMT. This time I made a NU RMT. This RMT is inspired by iplaytennislol; his tutoring in NU was insanely fun! It made me a lot better and I learned a lot. So now that that’s said, let’s get into the teambuilding.

Teambuilding progress:

So I really wanted to build around Haunter. I personally think it's a cool Pokémon and very underrated. If you don't have a good switch-in to Haunter, it can get a kill everytime it comes in. Haunter has access to a lot of cool moves such as Will-o-Wisp, Taunt, Destiny Bond, and even Subsitute and Disable. It’s just a very versatile Pokémon with good Special Attack and decently high Speed.

I needed a bulky Pokémon since Haunter is not able to suck up most hits thrown at it. Mega Audino is my choice because of its amazing bulk, and it's also a very nice Wish passer. Also, Mega Audino is able to take Ghost/Dark-type moves, which Haunter doesn't like.

My team was now really weak to Psychic-types, so I went looking for a Stealth Rock user that isn't weak to Psychic. Mesprit seemed to fit that roll perfectly, since it has good bulk to support Haunter. U-turn on Mesprit is really nice since you are able to U-turn on the incoming Xatu and switch to Haunter.

The team had no Water or Fire resists and opponents were free to Volt Switch around. I needed a Pokémon that was able to stop all of those. The Pokémon that fits all those rolls is Lanturn. Lanturn's good bulk and ability to be a resist to Water and Fire and its ability Volt Absorb is it just ideal for this team. Lanturn gave my team also VoltTurn action, which is nice.

My team had no Normal resist (Haunter is immune to Normal-types, but it's really easy to predict), which in this format is just needed with Pokémon such as Tauros, Kangaskhan, Swellow, and Zangoose. Then I saw a other weakness in the team: Grass. My only resist is Haunter, which doesn't even like to take a resisted move since it's so frail but it also gets crippled by its LO. So I needed a Pokémon that resists Normal and Grass. Ferroseed seems to fit that roll fine. With Ferroseed I can stack Spikes, which helps Haunter sweep even more.

Outside of Haunter I didn't had enough offense, and the team was also relative slow; the only fast mon being Haunter (which isn't even the fastest mon around). So I needed a fast, hard-hitting physical attacker. So it's was either Tauros or Archeops. I went with Archeops since I already had a Normal-type on my team. It also gives me a another (kinda since Archeops is relative slow) Normal/Fire resist, which is cool.

The Team:

haunter.gif

Haunter @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Sludge Wave
- Will-O-Wisp
- Taunt

Haunter is the Pokémon this team is build around; it's my main hard-hitting Special Attacker. Shadow Ball and Sludge Wave are Haunters main STAB moves and can deal massive damage to most Pokémon. Will-o-Wisp is there to cripple those physical attackers and to dodge Sucker Punch abusers such as Kangaskhan, Skunktank, Shiftry, or even Liepard if you can bluff the Choice Scarf. I choose Taunt as last move over something like Destiny Bond just to make Crodino useless, as well as a mind playing Stealth Rock users. Haunter is kinda hard to use but with the right player and support it can do a lot of work.

audino-mega.gif

Audino @ Audinite
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 232 HP / 132 Def / 48 SpA / 76 SpD / 20 Spe
Bold Nature
- Dazzling Gleam
- Wish
- Protect
- Grass Knot
Okay, Mega Audino is one of the bulkiest mixed walls in NU (if not the bulkiest), Mega Audino + Haunter also have nice typing coverage. 232 HP lets Audino get a little bit more HP from Regenerator if you switch out before Mega Evolving. I have put 132 Def and 76 SpD to make it a little bit more of a mixed wall, making Wish passing (or Wishing in general) easier. 48 in SpA is so Mega Audino is able to 3 hit KO Malamar. 20 Spe is so Mega Audino is able to speed creep other base 50 Speed Pokemon such as Hariyama, Regirock and other Mega Audino. Dazzling Gleam is standard on Mega Audino, while Wish and Protect are there since Mega Audino is my Wish passer and I want that Mega Audino can get a free Wish. Grass Knot is there for surprising Rhydon, which is on almost every team.

48 SpA Mega Audino Dazzling Gleam vs. 252 HP / 244+ SpD Malamar: 134-158 (35.6 - 42%) -- 87.1% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
48 SpA Mega Audino Grass Knot (100 BP) vs. 252 HP / 240 SpD Eviolite Rhydon: 216-256 (52.1 - 61.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
48 SpA Mega Audino Grass Knot (100 BP) vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Eviolite Rhydon: 316-376 (89.7 - 106.8%) -- 75% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

mesprit.gif

Mesprit @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 224 HP / 252 Def / 32 Spe
Relaxed Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Psychic
- Thunder Wave
- U-turn

Mesprit is my Stealth Rock user and my main Psychic absorber. U-turn is there to allow you to switch Haunter into Xatu and deal a lot of damage. Psychic is standard. With the spread I have, Mesprit it is able to take more hits and cripple threats with Thunder Wave. The spread is made so that it is slower then Skunktank, allowing them to use Pursuit first before Mesprit uses U-turn. But the spread is just enough to outspeed Malamar.

lanturn.gif

Lanturn @ Leftovers
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 104 HP / 152 Def / 212 SpD / 40 Spe
Calm Nature
- Volt Switch
- Thunder Wave
- Scald
- Heal Bell

If I have learned one thing about being Tennis tutee it is that Lanturn has to be on every team. Not really, but Lanturn on this team is so good; it gives this team VoltTurn, is a Water/Fire resist, and is able to stop Volt Switches, helping this team so much. It also sucks up special hits for days. With the Wish support from Mega Audino, it is able to stay in the battle for so long.

ferroseed.gif

Ferroseed @ Eviolite
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 240 HP / 48 Atk / 88 Def / 120 SpD / 12 Spe
Impish Nature
- Knock Off
- Spikes
- Leech Seed
- Protect

Ferroseed is my main Normal/Grass resist. The 48 EVs in Atk are used so it's able to break a Klinklang’s Subsitute after 2 Knock Offs. The rest is so Ferroseed is a mixed wall. Lastly, the 12 Spe EVs are there to outspeed other Ferroseed. Leech Seed is there to help Ferroseed to stay longer in the battle. Spikes is there to give me Spike stack and it is also a Xatu lure so you can double switch in to Haunter and get a huge hit off.

48 Atk Ferroseed Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 92 HP / 0 Def Klinklang: 39-47 (13.7 - 16.5%) -- possible 9HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

archeops.gif

Archeops
Ability: Defeatist
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Acrobatics
- Earthquake
- Roost
- Heat Wave

Archeops is my main wall breaker. With its insane Atk stat of 140, it's able to do huge damage, and with a Spe stat of 110, it's able to almost outspeed any Pokémon in NU (not counting scarfers). The rest my team has problems with other Ferroseeds, so I have put Heat Wave there so that Ferroseed isn't able to switch in on Archeops. Earthquake is there for coverage. Roost is so that Archeops doesn't get crippled by its Ability Defeatist, and it also helps with mind playing with Sucker Punch users.

4 SpA Archeops Heat Wave vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Eviolite Ferroseed: 228-272 (78 - 93.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Threatlist:
435.png
: This can be really annoying since it's able to Pursuit trap my Haunter and Mesprit, Poison Jab my Mega Audino, Fire Blast my Ferroseed, and Sucker Punch my Archeops. Lanturn also doesn't like to take a hit from Skuntank.
549.png
: This can literally 6-0 my team if I don't play carefully. It can switch in on something like Ferroseed, Quiver Dance, and sleep powder something and win.
601.png
: This can also 6-0 my team if it has the right support and there is some prior damage on Ferroseed and Lanturn.
467.png
: The mixed Life Orb set with Earthquake can do heavy damage to this team since the only switch in to Magmortar is Lanturn, which gets 2HKOed by Magmortar, you have to play around this Pokémon.

iplaytennislol Dude where to begin. Your tutoring was just awesome, fun, was very helpful and taught me a lot! (And considering you did this for the first time it is insane how good it was) Your way of thinking about some things is the same as mine, which helped a lot. The discussions we had about a certain predictions we could make minutes before what was the best play. The skype calls were so much fun. I am glad to say that I was your tutee.

Snowy. Yeah dude you keep coming back in this. You are my manager in the BLT. One of the best drawers when you need to draw Pokémon in gartic kuch kuch (not). The PM's we have are so weird and that it makes them so much fun. You are one of the best friends I made on PS and maybe for life as well, thanks for everything.

Blitzamirin Yeah well, where to begin with you. You talked to me when it went bad, you didn't panic when I went nuts, and above all, that you took care of me when I needed it. You have seriously such a good heart that I don't even know what to say about you. Dude you are great, you are a friend for life. Thank you.

Hey Bro,

Solid team you have here, I know tennis himself has been using it, so it must be good and looking at it, you guys incorporated a nice few lures and stuff here and there which allow you to nab kills on rising meta pokemon (such as Rhydon and Ferroseed). As far as weakness' are concerned, HP Fire Lilligant is the upmost problem for this team. With Haunter being extremely easy to get residual damage on through the likes of pursuit, with Archeops unable to a +1 Giga Drain and Ferroseed a +1 HP Fire, it can be a huge threat, despite the fact you have two Thunder Wavers to possibly cripple it, it can still use sleep powder and nab a Quiver Dance here and there, to be very threatening.

As a result, I'm going to suggest Eviolite Haunter > Life Orb Haunter. This is quite a small critique, but it gives you a Mon that can more easily take on Lilligant since it can eat up a HP Fire. It also means that you don't have life orb to punish you for making an attack and weakening your Lilligant check.

Eviolite > Life Orb on Haunter.

Good Luck in future endeavours
