Hello Smogon community. This is my second RMT, this time a 5th gen Sandstorm team :). I always loved using sandstorm, so I wanted to give it a try in this new gen! Lets go in-depth.
Gliscor (M) @ Toxic Orb
Trait: Poison Heal
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Taunt
- U-turn
- Ice Fang
- Earthquake
Allright so, heres one of my favourite Pokemon. I put him in the lead place because of his good typing, fast accest to Taunt and U-Turn. This guy is useful for Taunting later on in the game, as well as scouting, and absorbing Status, Earthquake as a strong STAB move, and Ice Fang for coverage, and since I dont have an Ice move in the rest of my team, why not?
The EVs are pretty simple, Bulk, Speed (for taunting, fast attacks, fast scouting).
The reason im not using a Fling-Acrobat set is because this set worked very well so far as a Status absorber, Taunter, and scout.
Finally, I don't start with Hippowdon or Tyranitar, so that way I dont reveal right away its a Sandstorm Set.
Tyranitar (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 156 Atk / 100 SAtk / 252 Spd
Naive Nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Crunch
- Substitute
- Focus Punch
- Thunderbolt
One of my two Sandstorm summoners, and my Wallbreaker. Sub up when I force a change, I see what they send. I have a really nice coverage, and it worked for me so far, Crunch works as a reliable, powerful STAB move, Focus Punch behind a sub is pretty simple, and sure hurts a lot. Finally thunderbolt, for even more coverage, and hurting those physically bulky walls.
Max speed for...a fast tyrant? :P. I wanted more Atk EVs because, thunderbolt hits bulky waters pretty well already. Naive because Sandstorm already gives him the SDef boost, and hes even capable of taking stuff like Surf sometimes.
Hippowdon (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 188 HP / 72 Atk / 144 Def / 104 SDef
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Roar
- Stealth Rock
- Slack Off
- Earthquake
My other Sandstorm summoner, and my physical wall, pretty standard set, with EV spread for my own likes. I set up SR when I get my opponent to change, after this guy walls any physical attack, then Roar when its possible for scouting and racking up sandstorm and SR damage, Slack Off to give this guy a break and get some health back, anddd the good olde EQ for a nice STAB attack.
EVs: bulk, bulk, and a lil of attack, im thinking of putting a bit more EVs on Def, but so far this guy really worked out for me, and he can even take 1 or maybe 2 special attacks.
Burungeru (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Water Absorb
EVs: 172 HP / 100 Def / 92 SAtk / 144 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Toxic
- Recover
- Boil Over
- Shadow Ball
I wanted a Ghost to spinblock, for my Hippo to roar stuff around, and I wanted a really preciated bulky water, and the pringles poke came to mind!
This works as my special wall as well, gives me a crucial immunity to Water type moves, he laughs at ice beams that threat Gliscor and the Hippo, and Fighting moves, wich my team doesnt enjoy that much. I chose Boil Over over (no pun intended) Surf, because If I cant Toxic something, lets burn it! That, combined with Shadow Ball gets a really nice coverage, and he can take enough hits to Toxic something and stall it out, along sandstorm.
EVs make it kinda like a mixed wall, but more into special walling, while giving it a bit of SAtk, the potato guy worked very nicely so far for me.
Lucario (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Inner Focus
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Nasty Plot
- Aura Sphere
- Dark Pulse
- Vacuum Wave
Being honest...I kinda need a lil help with this guy, it been working out fine, however, my team have a huge Grass weakness, since no pokemon except he resists it, and since I want some special sweeper as well, I decided to pick Luke, (and the fact I was missing priority attacks too). If it helps, I had a Roserade before, it worked out a bit, but it was way too frail, and was affected by the Sandstorm as well so, oh well.
Now to luke, this guy forces switches, and most people expect a Swords Dance Luke, so yep. Aura Sphere and Dark Pulse give excellent coverage, and Vacuum Wave is there for a priority move, and for faster pokes, of course.
Not much to say about EVs. So yep, I would appreciate recommendations of how to fix my grass weakness (and if possible, priority moves as well).
Doryuuzu (M) @ Chople Berry
Trait: Sand Throw
EVs: 252 Atk / 16 Def / 240 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- X-Scissor
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
The star of the show! Yeaaa you may have seen tons of these, but still works amazingly! SD on something that wont hurt me or a change, and vrooooom lets wreck teams! I gave him a Chople Berry for some specific reasons, lets see at its counters (the ones I can think of so far) Conkeldurr (Ropushin, or whatever) They think they can Mach Punch, but nope! After a SD, I EQ that guy after the survived mach punch, and proceed to finish the rest of the team (I dont do damage calcs, but every time, it worked). Other counter would be Polited and Ninetales teams, however, im sure to get rid of them before I bring this guy out, and done! Aqua jet is way to rare so I dont care.
The moveset is simple, EQ and Rock slide gives awesome coverage, and if theres something (example, bronzong) that doesnt get neutral hit by those, theres X-Scissor. EVs: The speed lets me outspeed Choice scarf Starmie and the likes by like 2 speed, and the def is there to help the mach punch hit.
So, overall, I would like some help with my Grass weakness, if its by replacing Luke, I would still like a special sweeper, and THEN if its possible priority.
Thanks in advance!
