I would firstly like to apologize to everyone for spamming YOLO during our battles.
I'm hoping to get some serious feedback too!
One prerequisite for the team was performing well under any weather, meaning I have no weather of my own. Given how many Pokemon become terrifying under Sun or Rain this proved to be quite a challenge.
The team shifted from a sort of Bulky Offense to Hyper-Offense because of the problems with Stall teams that I was having.
The Old Team:
I wasn't happy with the performance of all the members on this team so I ended up scrapping it but after trying a Rain variant of the team I decided to go for a Hyper-Offensive using Terrakion/Celebi/Gyarados as my building blocks.
The New Team: YMCMB!
Happy with the core of Celebi/Gyarados/Terrakion, I decided to try building another team off them. Initially I added Heatran because CeleTran is a pretty solid defensive core and both Pokemon have many sets which means that they can punish sloppy opponents! Heatran also sets up Stealth Rock which is very important for my team's success.
After adding Heatran, I now wanted to add a mixed sweeper to help break walls and punch through teams. While the most obvious answer was to go to Dragonite, I decided to go with Salamence because Dragonite is everywhere! Multi-Scale made Dragonite is like the Scizor of this Gen.
With two huge SR weaknesses, I decided I needed a Spinner. I went with Tentacruel to facilitate my time against teams packing Tyranitar and Scizor.
But then I was like: "fuck Tentacruel, your offensive coverage sucks and you're weak to Earthquake which means Dragonite DGAF about you" and so Tentacruel was replaced by Starmie.
And now...
The Team
Heatran (F) @ Air Balloon
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- Stealth Rock
- Hidden Power [Ice]
Offensive Heatran is usually what I lead with. She is sturdy enough on her own to set up Stealth Rock on most situations. She is not however, a suicide lead. Heatran seems to have fallen from an offensive threat to more of a utility Pokemon generation and I intend to punish people for doing so.
She is the ugly half of the CeleTran defensive core but what she lacks in looks she makes up with personality.
The Air Balloon keeps Heatran alive a bit longer against EQ users and creates switch-in opportunities for my other Pokemon.
Starmie @ Expert Belt
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Rapid Spin
- Thunderbolt
Swagmie is without a doubt the best Spinner to have ever existed. Capable of running Offensive and Defensive sets successfully, there is no role Starmie can not fill on a team thanks to its decent movepool and excellent speed.
Expert Belt is the item of choice on Starmie to bluff a Choice set. I went with Surf over Hydro Pump for better accuracy. I know the theme behind the team is #YOLO but with Starmie I'd rather not miss the 2HKOs because of a missed Hydro Pump.
BoltBeam for obvious neutral cover and Rapid Spin so that the Winged Beast and Red Dragon can come in and exile all the baddies to the jungle!
Celebi @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 220 HP / 248 SAtk / 40 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Nasty Plot
- Giga Drain
- Earth Power
- Hidden Power [Fire]
Now I know I dissed Celebi during the Epic Pokemon Rap Battles but Celebi has more than proven its usefulness to me.
Celebi is crucial to my success as it often baits out Pokemon not expecting to get beaten 1v1 (Tyranitar) or OHKO'd on the switch (Scizor). Natural Cure is also a blessing! I'll gladly absorb the Thunder Wave to get rid of Ferrothorn. The Water/Electric/Fighting resist are also nice. Not many Politoed will stick around to see what Celebi has up its sleeves.
Being set-up on by Dragons sucks too.
Celebi's bulk makes up for the low Speed IMO.
Salamence (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Moxie
EVs: 64 Atk / 192 SAtk / 252 Spd
Naive Nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Draco Meteor
- Earthquake
- Fire Blast
- Outrage
Does the picture do it justice? Moxie MixMence is a fucking nightmare. One Draco Meteor and all of a sudden you're sweeping an entire team. I've accumulated dozens of logs where this Salamence singularly sweeps an entire team once it gets one boost.
Moxie MixMence is the right combination of speed, bulk, and offense. dufssiafsuisu Moxie was the best thing to happen to Mence! I wouldnt be surprised if a few months down the road he gets banned again.
His role is simple, stay out as long as you can afford to while taking out as many Pokemon as you can. Occasionally Mence will eat something like Mach Punch to keep Terrakion in the game longer.
Gyarados (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 56 HP / 248 Atk / 204 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Stone Edge
- Taunt
- Waterfall
Gyarados, like Mence, is a great combination of bulk and offense. While I am not heavily invested in HP or Defense, Gyarados can still take a few resisted hits thanks to Intimidate.
Taunt is important because it prevents Pokemon like Skarmory from phazing him out and stupid shits from using status. Against slower Pokemon, he also keeps them from boosting. Taunt can also afford me a chance to get in an additional Dragon Dance and possibly turning a 3HKO to a 2HKO.
Stone Edge because Dragonite is a prick and Bounce is stupid.
Terrakion @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Justified
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge
- X-Scissor
- Quick Attack
Choice Scarf Terrakion is my revenge killer although at times he will find himself sweeping with just Close Combat endgame. It is also something of an intimidating factor.
It is my princess and I usually keep it pocketed for end-game to clean up whatever is left of my opponent. X-Scissor and Quick Attack seem like a waste of slots though, I rarely find myself using them and on the occasion I use QA, it appears to be lacking power!
You know, for a bull its really frail.
Threat List
Tyranitar: Tyranitar is easily disposed of by my team. Terrakion can revenge kill most variants. Standard MixTar is handled very well by Gyarados.
Rotom-W: Celebi stops most Rotom-W dead in it's tracks. Resists both STABs and can retaliate with Giga Drain.
Scizor: Gyarados resists all of Scizor's attacks if Im not mistaken and can 2HKO after a boost with Waterfall. Heatran only has to watch out for Superpower. Salamence if healthy, can also dispose of Scizor.
Dragonite: If I haven't broken Multi-Scale yet then I am in trouble because he can 2HKO most of my Pokemon without a boost.
Politoed: Celebi is my go to Pokemon. If I'm feeling lucky I might go for the 2HKO with Starmie.
Heatran: Gyarados stops Heatran dead in its tracks. Starmie can also go toe to toe.
Jirachi: Heatran resists all of Jirachi's attacks and can OHKO all variants save the Specially Defensive CM.
Latios: Why does this thing have to learn Surf? Ugh.
Reuniclus: Gyarados can prevent it from setting up with a fast Taunt and 2-3HKO most variants after a boost. Not a good way to counter.
Haxorus: Something faster!
Ninetales: Air Balloon Heatran does a good job of countering Ninetales with HP Ground. HP Fighting variants lacking a balloon of their own will potentially get stomped as they miss the 2HKO.
Conkeldurr: Draco Meteor from Mence -> GG.
Celebi: If my Balloon is in tact Celebi is in trouble >.>
Terrakion: NOTHING CAN STOP TERRAKION (Except a STAB priority attack >.>)
Gyarados: Starmie?
Gengar: Starmie?
Starmie: Starmie and Celebi?
Landorus: It can be annoying but with proper prediction I can get rid of it.
Infernape: Gyarados can nail most variants.
Volcarona: Heatran, Salamence, and Gyarados all resist the dual-STAB and can strike back with SE or very devastating moves.
Magnezone: Save for a Choice Scarf variant, easily disposed of.
Espeon: Its so weak on the physical side.
Salamence: Something faster!
Hydreigon: Something faster.
Breloom: I run Timid Heatran with 264 Speed to outspeed and OHKO.
Latias: T_T
Toxicroak: This thing is sweet. I should use one.
Lucario: No me gusta :(
Virizion: Hit it once and it flops.
Scrafty: Gyarados is all like, Taunt fucker! And he is all like :(
Venusaur: :(
Metagross: Ugh
Mienshao: Pwnrados
Cloyster: :S
Mamoswine: HI!
Darmanitan: Mence?
Tornadus: Hard
Abomasnow: Something
Alakazam: Agh its so fast
Azelf: Heatran?
Azumarill: Starmie?
Deoxys-D: No se.
Dugtrio: Figure out its set first!
Kingdra: Hmm
Kyurem: Eek
Victini: Heatran?
I'm hoping to get some serious feedback too!
Team Overview
The idea behind the team is now #YOLO. An aggressive offensive style that punishes bad predictions and rewards taking risks. (I sound like an idiot shouting YOLO after every good move I make on PO but who cares? Its not like I'm actually a bimbo or some 16 year old who thinks Drizzy Drake is the realest out :X). One prerequisite for the team was performing well under any weather, meaning I have no weather of my own.
