This is a team that I’ve been using on shoddy for some time. It does pretty well, but I’m not so sure about some EV spreads as I suck at doing those and I want suggestions for it before I start using it on Wi-Fi… Overall, this team uses some unconventional Pokemon strategies that either completely hit the target or lose miserably. It is very dependant on spike shuffling and that’s about it. I am also posting a threat list to make life easier and because it’s sometimes fun to do so.
Froslass @ Focus Sash
Nature: Timid
200HP/58 SpA/252Spe
~Spikes
~Destiny Bond
~Thunder Wave
~Ice Beam
Froslass is the spiker of the team, and almost always lays down at least one layer of them. Destiny Bond seems very predictable, especially with Focus Sash, but it’s surprising how many people still fall for it. (roughly 60-70%) :o however, it even works out if people try to predict destiny bond because it’ll cause them to switch, and in that turn, another layer of spikes gets laid down. Thunder Wave works well on Gyarados leads, and if it switches out, the next pokemon gets paralyzed. Ice Beam is there in case Froslass is forced to use offense. It works nicely against Salamence leads and can even leave a dent in Hippowdon. Also, if this is switched out first turn, it can come back to prevent RS and fight dragons. Looking at this EV spread, it looks really weird to me now. I guess I gave it a lot of HP with the hope of laying down more spikes, but that hasn’t worked too well. Suggestions, please...
Tentacruel @ Leftovers
Nature: Calm
252 HP/130 SpA/128 SpD
~Toxic Spikes
~Surf
~Rapid Spin
~Sludge Bomb
This is the very iffy member of my team. He is mainly support, and is just used for RSing and laying down the toxic spikes if he gets a chance. However, he rarely gets to be offensive. I have thought about replacing him(or another pokemon?) with Forretress, but I prefer him for only one reason: Infernape. Without him, nothing would be able to switch into Infernape safely.
Regirock @ Leftovers
Nature: Adamant
252 HP/252 Atk/6 SpD
~Stealth Rock
~Stone Edge
~Hammer Arm
~Explosion
Undeniably sturdy and hard-hitting, Regirock can switch in on many hard-hitters, and hit back hard. If he gets a chance or causes a switch, he can also set up the priceless stealth rock. Stone Edge is excellent on him. Gyarados who Switch in and intimidate him expecting to get a free DD in get a nasty shock when they are destroyed by his STAB move. Hammer Arm also allows him to switch into Tyranitar and friends safely, and believe it or not is the only thing my team can do to wear down Bronzong -_-. If he gets a chance to explode, I totally go for it. He lacks a recovery move, so once he’s low on HP, he’s gone.
Hippowdon @ Liechi Berry
Nature: Impish
252 HP/6 Atk/252 Def
~Roar
~Earthquake
~Slack Off
~Ice Fang
The physical wall of my team. Skarmory used to be here, but I have found Hippowdon to work slightly better here. Roar is for spike shuffling obviously, and hopefully brings in things that he can harm. Earthquake hits Tyranitar, Metagross, etc. Slack Off obviously has to be here for him to recover damage, and when it’s paired with Liechi Berry, he actually has some attacking power. Speaking of the Liechi Berry, I only used it because I don’t like using a bunch of lefties, and a few times, with Hippowdon being my last pokemon, Liechi berry has saved me the game. I still want a better strategy, though…(Suggestions?!) Ice Fang is for dragons and Gliscor, whom Hippowdon can wall usually. The Sandstorm he causes is also a bit harmful though it works decently with Regirock, but at the same time it hurts Gengar’s and Froslass’s strategies with Focus Sash and Substitute, respectively.
Articuno @ Leftovers
Nature: Calm
252 HP/200 Def/ 58 Spe
~Roar
~Ice Beam
~Roost
~Heal Bell
I think it’s safe to say that, strangely enough, Articuno is the star of this team. He can not only be a great Special wall but also takes laughable damage from some offensive attacks. He can switch in on Starmie or Jolteon, roost off Thunderbolts, and Roar it out of the way. Sometimes Tentacruel gets sacrificed just to rapid spin stealth rock for Articuno because he is that necessary. It’s very rare that Articuno is easily taken out, and he usually lasts the battle till the end. Ice Beam is there for Gliscor and STAB, and Heal Bell is just plain priceless, though I may consider Toxic or Reflect over it.
Gengar @ Liechi Berry
Nature: Timid
252 Spe/252 SpA/6 Atk
~Shadow Ball
~Substitute
~Thunderbolt
~Explosion
My other, and probably main, RS preventer. If this thing can set up a sub, it becomes deadly. It knocks out a poke or two with Shadow Ball and Thunderbolt, and when it gains the Liechi boost, it explodes right in something’s face.(usually Blissey’s)
The… other… threat list: (be aware that this team does rely more on indirect rather than direct damage to take most of these out, so to counter some of these I mainly think about walling and roaring out)
Tyranitar: Regirock and Hippowdon wall him nicely and hit hard with Hammer Arm or Earthquake.
Gyarados: Regirock hits with Stone Edge, Gengar can T-Bolt, Hippowdon can roar away any stat boosts.
Infernape: Yuck. The only safe switch in here is Tentacruel, or sometimes Gengar if I can predict a CC
Azelf: More yuck. Froslass can paralyze it, rendering it useless. Articuno can usually wall it and roost off the damage.
Electivire: Not much of a threat here as far as I can tell.
Heracross: With him, it’s prediction as usual, but Hippowdon is my best bet, and to a lesser extent Tentacruel. Gengar can also scare away non Choice Scarf variants(but who uses those anymore)
Salamence: Froslass kills, Articuno usually walls and kills, Regirock kills.
Togekiss: Gengar does a nice job here. He can set up on one, or kill off a weakened one with T-Bolt. Otherwise, he can just explode
Garchomp: Hippowdon usually works and fights back with Ice Fang. Froslass can Ice Beam as well but isn’t as reliable
Lucario: Tentacruel does ok against him I guess. Sometimes Gengar can also wear him down.
Starmie: Articuno walls Starmie and roars it out. Gengar fights back slower versions with Shadow Ball and Thunderbolt
Weavile: Gengar doesn’t enjoy dealing with this guy. Hippowdon can wall easily and EQ back. Froslass can cripple starters with paralysis.
Dugtrio: The pokemon on this team that has the most to fear from Dugtrio is definitely Tentacruel. But I think I’ve only seen a few of these lately so… I won’t bother too much with him.
Porygon-Z: Regirock doesn’t take a whole lot from him and kills with hammer arm. Gengar can also switch in on CS Tri Attack and set up as he switches out.
Machamp: Gengar sets up on him well, Froslass is usually lucky enough to Destiny Bond him, oddly enough. Hippowdon can sometimes roar him out though Dynamicpunch hurts.
Snorlax: Regirock hammer arms, Hippowdon roars curses out.
Zapdos: Regirock has little to fear from him and hits back with Stone Edge, though Roost is annoying.
Suicune: Articuno phazes CM attempts. Usually. Gengar finishes off weakened ones with T-Bolt.
Breloom: Ouch. Maybe a sleep absorber would be nice for once… usually I have Regirock absorb the sleep, and Hippowdon switches in, walls and roars it out. Articuno can also take a focus punch and roar it out. After that, he easily kills with Ice Beam.
Ninjask: Hippowdon walls and phazes.
Metagross: As usual, Metagross harms my teams. Hippowdon is my best bet. It can either hit back with Earthquake or roar it out, though I prefer to just get it out of the way. However, with that insane defense, Metagross is tough to take down.
Heatran: Regirock has nothing to fear from Heatran, as Earth Power usually doesn’t even 2HKO and Hammer Arm 2HKO’s back.
Celebi: Gengar subs up and hits back with Shadow Ball, it just can’t switch into the Thunder Wave. Articuno can also easily wall and Ice Beam back, or roar it out if it tries to leech seed.
Jirachi: Hippowdon can EQ, I guess.
Dragonite: The many Ice attacks on here… take your pick.
Mamoswine: This guy is also a huge nuisance. Regirock is my best bet, but it takes a nasty beating from an Earthquake. Gengar can predict an Earthquake and survive an Ice Shard while subbing up.
Gallade: Hippowdon handles him.
Yanmega: He doesn’t enjoy Regirock’s company at all, or Stealth Rock either.
Kingdra: Froslass destroys sweep attempts with paralysis. Articuno doesn’t take much damage even from boosted hits, and Hippowdon can even get rid of its rain.
Roserade: Froslass, anyone?
Scizor: Eww it’s Scizor. Well, if I can weaken one, Gengar can finish him off, Quick Attack not affecting him.
The reasoning behind some of these counters may be pretty awkward(this is my first RMT), so bear with me and say so if something doesn't seem to make sense.
So that’s it, please rate!!! ;)
