Sup. I made this Pokebank LC team the other day in an attempt to git gud, and the results were quite positive. It started because I like Misdreavus and Chinchou, so I thought why not? I heard both were quite amazing at LC.
I was told to use Meditite because it was really powerful or something but I thought Mienfoo was better because of Knock Off and Life Orb Regenerator is always fun, so I chose it over Meditite.
I had also heard Snover was good in LC and synergized well with my team, and since Gligar was available to use I picked it as well because of da balk.
I tested a couple of pokes I liked here and I realized I was completely screwed up against set up sweepers, but my team wasn't lacking in firepower, so I decided to put something that was capable of stopping set up sweepers as a whole, or at least slowing them down enough to handle them.
And there it is. A completely standard LC team. This is how it looks at a first glance.
Now, going more in-depth...
Mienfoo (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Regenerator
Level: 5
EVs: 236 Atk / 36 Def / 236 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Fake Out
- Drain Punch
- Knock Off
- U-turn
Mienfoo is what I lead with most of the time, and it's pretty effective. It deals damage, it's fast, has that Fake Out and it can scout with U-turn, healing itself as it switches out. Knock Off is an incredibly useful move, this gen gave it a power buff that turns it into Mienfoo's hardest hitting move when hitting for neutral damage. Knocking an item off makes a lot of previously sturdy pokes quite frail, and if a counter switches into Knock Off then Mienfoo can just U-turn out or simply switch, restoring Life Orb recoil. Drain Punch is good STAB as it heals off some damage, making it last even longer. In general, it's just plain awesome.
I used Adamant for a while, not worth it. The increase in power doesn't make up for being outsped by other Mienfoo, Meditite and pokes who reach a speed stat of 16 (a bunch). With Jolly, you outspeed Meditite and kill them with a combination of Fake Out and Knock Off.
Misdreavus (F) @ Eviolite
Ability: Levitate
Level: 5
EVs: 68 HP / 120 Def / 80 SDef / 240 Spd
Timid Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Will-O-Wisp
- Hidden Power [Fighting]
- Pain Split
This is the best thing ever. Misdreavus is a pokemon that has anything it needs. It's too fast, and bulky, and what it lacks in physical bulk, it makes up with WoW. Shadow Ball hits things hard in general and it's Missy's best STAB. OHKOing Meditite is nice too. Hidden Power Fighting gives perfect coverage with Shadow Ball. Pain Split allows Misdreavus to keep itself healthy, so it's not wore down, and it also allows it to beat pokes like Munchlax who can be troublesome sometimes. There are a lot of pokes that can't do any real damage to Missy, so Pain Split can allow a really weakened Misdreavus to come back into play to give your opponent more headaches. Misdreavus is a pokemon who hardly ever fails to do it's job.
Chinchou (F) @ Eviolite
Ability: Volt Absorb
Level: 5
EVs: 132 Def / 216 Spd / 148 SDef
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Volt Switch
- Scald
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
I tried a lot of sets with this thing before settling on this one. In general, it was kind of a disappointment. It's forced to run RestTalk as it needs recovery, and it's fast but not as fast as it wanted to be, so it needs full invesment in speed to actually outspeed shit. The thing with Chinchou is that it counters pokes that can be quite troublesome. Ponyta and Murkrow just cry at the sight of this thing, and it can also gian momentum with Volt Switch. Scald over Hydro Pump mostly because Rest Talk is already unreliable enough and it's useful to beat opposing Chinchous, though most of the time the smartest thing to do against other Chinchous is just switch out.
What can I say, it's not the strongest pokemon. But in this team it just can't be replaced.
Snover (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Snow Warning
Level: 5
EVs: 208 Spd / 180 SAtk / 120 Atk
Rash Nature
- Blizzard
- Giga Drain
- Ice Shard
- Hidden Power [Rock]
Meet Snover, a pokemon OHKO'd by the whole tier, who can't OHKO shit back, is easy to wall and even with a choice scarf it's outspeed sometimes. It can't even OHKO Tangela, and I switched into enough Hidden Power Fire to say it's an awful counter for it, but it's a decent revenge killer. Blizzard still does a bunch to Tangela and OHKOs Murkrow and Gligar. Though max speed Gligar will speed tie with this thing, it still does what it needs to do usually. Nothing really likes taking STAB Blizzards, even if it's kinda weak. Giga Drain is a move I think I've used once or twice, but it's useful secondary stab and it does damage to Chinchou and Staryu while keeping you healthy. Restoring HP is vital as it can often put you out of KO range. HP Rock is there for those Vulpix and Ponytas who love to switch into Snover. It's not gonna 2HKO, but at least you can grin and say "HA!" when you predict a switch properly. And cry if that Tangela stays in and OHKOs you.
The best about this thing is it's ability, though. Every other poke on the team actually benefits from the passive damage on the opponent. So if it can force a switch, deal some damage and switch out safely, this thing is doing it's job.
Murkrow (M) @ Eviolite
Ability: Prankster
Level: 5
EVs: 212 SDef / 196 HP / 100 Def
Careful Nature
- Confuse Ray
- Thunder Wave
- Roost
- Brave Bird
"Fuck you" is what a lot of people feel like saying when they're against this bird. They usually don't say it and say something softer like "wow I hate this set", or sometimes harsher like "wow you have no skill at all" when this thing beats their CM Swirlix, but I think I've got pretty close to "Fuck you" a couple of times.
The idea is not to make people upset at all, though. The chance is high, but I put Parafusion crow on this team because if I didn't I just have no way to beat popular set up sweepers. This thing comes into shit like Swirlix or Tirtouga as they boost, paralyze them and then die so I can actually check them. Of course that's a worst case scenario. Sometimes they'll fail to OHKO, as this crow actually has it's bulk, and sometimes they'll fail to move, only to get confused the next turn, increasing the chance of not doing anything at all to aproximately 63%. It's not a reliable check to set up sweepers, but it works. It's bulky and can heal itself with priority Roost, which is pretty retarded as a lot of things can't 2HKO it when it changes it's type effectiveness. So it can actually get past a hell lot of threats with Parafusion and recovery. And Brave Bird still hits quite hard. It's this thing's best STAB and it does a decent amount of damage to Tangela, which is nice.
I topped the ladder all thanks to this buddy. It turned a bunch of matches around with it's hax. Perhaps it's not the best pokemon to show off "skill", but if you want ladder points this thing is a really useful weapon, as it allows you to win even if you're outplayed.
Gligar (M) @ Berry Juice
Ability: Hyper Cutter
Level: 5
EVs: 160 Def / 112 SDef / 80 HP / 156 Spd
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Acrobatics
- Defog
"Wow, an UU poke in LC, it must surely be broken"
That's what I thought when I found out Gligar was allowed in LC, but I was quite wrong. This thing is indeed really good, but it's perfectly balanced. It comes into a lot of things, walls them and beats them, but it's not the ultimate sure victory pokemon I was expecting. Still, it's one of the most solid member of this team. Earthquake hits hard, and after Berry Juice acrobatics hits even harder. Flying coverage is quite useful in this meta. U-turn is a great scouting move. I was thinking of using Knock Off, but in general U-turn is much better for when forcing switches. Specially when Tangela comes in, as it leaves it in Snover's range (god I hate Tangela). Defog for dem Hazards. I hardly ever needed to Defog, but I found myself using Defog more often than missing other moves such as my own hazards or Roost, so I kept it there. Hazards can still be a pain sometimes, so it's better to make sure I don't have trouble with them.
Inmunity isn't compatible with Defog but I didn't get my Gligar poisoned. It did block some stat drops, though, so I think Hyper Cutter is a better ability for this enviroment.
Now, this team is quite unoriginal. But it's quite effective too. As a proof of that, I topped the LC ladder on my first try at LC. Peaked 2139 if I recall correctly. I gotta admit I was ridiculously lucky with Murkrow, though.
Swirlix, Tangela and Yanma, who are pretty much on every other team, are mayor threats to this team, as it has no reliable counters to them and must rely on paralysis support and a lot of prediction.
I was first for two or three days then some dudes surpassed me and I fucked up and fell to like #8, which is still not that bad I guess...
Anyways, here's a gift. Feel free to do whatever you please with it.
Any comments, advice, positive and negative criticism are appreciated. And thanks for reading.
