Yveltal's great bulk, good typing, and strong utility moves like Snarl and Foul Play make it a powerful Restricted Pokemon in the VGC 2022 metagame. It keeping both of the Calyrex formes in check and ignoring Prankster status moves, such as Thunder Wave from Grimmsnarl, add to its viability. Foul Play lets Yveltal take advantage of the high Attack stats of Restricted Pokemon, OHKOing Calyrex-I and Solgaleo while cleanly 2HKOing Zacian-C without bulk investment. It even 2HKOes some Zacian-C with lower Defense investment thanks to the boost from Dark Aura. Yveltal's immense special bulk with the Assault Vest and access to Snarl make it a good check to the ubiquitous Kyogre, and also to offensive Yveltal. Oblivion Wing is an invaluable tool to heal Assault Vest Yveltal, as well as 2HKOing Amoonguss. Sucker Punch allows for Yveltal KO Pokemon weakened by Foul Play or a Restricted partner, such as Zacian-C.
Zacian-C is an excellent ally Restricted Pokemon for Yveltal, as it takes care of opposing Yveltal, while Yveltal gets rid of Solgaleo and mitigates damage Zacian-C takes from special hits. It can also give Max Airstream boosts to Zacian-C. Incineroar and Grimmsnarl are invaluable partners to help Yveltal stay on the field for long and wittle longer, alongside helping it whittle down opposing teams in the face of threats such as Zacian-C and Regieleki. The Speed investment allows Yveltal to outspeed Zacian-C and Calyrex-S after a boost from Max Airstream. Special Attack investment and a Modest nature bump up its offensive presence, with 68 EVs in specific slightly optimizing the stat. The rest of the EVs are poured into bulk, preventing the 2HKO from Zacian-C's Behemoth Blade after Grimmsnarl's Reflect and Intimidate from Incineroar or Landorus-T. This spread also lets a Dynamaxed Assault Vest Yveltal survive Life Orb Regieleki's Max Lightning.

Dark Aura and STAB give Yveltal a powerful Max Darkness after it Dynamaxes, which OHKOes or 2HKOes nearly the entire metagame. Oblivion Wing serves to enable Max Airstream to boost its and its allies' Speed. Its good Speed tier allows it to outrun maximum Speed investment Kyogre and Landorus-T, even when both have a beneficial nature, allowing allies such as Zacian-C to wreak havoc with Intrepid Sword-boosted Behemoth Blades. Heat Wave is mainly used to 2HKO Zacian-C regardless of its bulk investment. Life Orb boosts Yveltal's damage output to crazy levels, giving it a 50% chance to outright OHKO even bulky Zacian-C with Max Flare. This is particularly potent with Tailwind support from Whimsicott. Alternatively, Weakness Policy can be used on bulkier teams with dual screens support from Grimmsnarl or Regieleki, the latter of which can activate Weakness Policy with Volt Switch.
Zacian-C pairs excellently with offensive Yveltal, which can give it Speed boosts via Max Airstream and OHKO the likes of Solgaleo and physically defensive Incineroar, while Zacian-C in return deals with Grimmsnarl and opposing Yveltal. Incineroar serves to protect Yveltal from Zacian-C's and Calyrex-I's assaults. Amoonguss can be used to aid Yveltal against Dynamaxing Regieleki with Rage Powder and against Calyrex-I Trick Room teams with Spore. Landorus-T acts as a secondary Dynamax option and can help deal with sun teams, bringing Lum Berry, Max Airstream, and Intimidate against Groudon to boot.
