ORAS OU Zard-Y Balance Peak 1420+

Hey, I have recently decided to take competitive Pokemon more seriously. My first realization was that I needed to make an effective team if I want to be a good player. So without further ado, this is the RMT of my first team.

Charizard-Mega-Y (M) @ Charizardite Y
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Flamethrower
- Solar Beam
- Roost
- Focus Blast

I wanted to start with Zard-Y because it was a pretty good mon that fit my style of play. It is a ridiculously hard hitting Pokemon, however it needs support to function properly. Teammates needed to be chosen in accordance to its weakness to rocks and counter its checks. I would say that it usually breaks the ice due to the fact that it does the some of the first damage most of the time. With drought+STAB+Fire Blast Zard-Y hits extremely hard even on mons that resist the hits. Packs good coverage with Solarbeam to kill those bulky grass types such as Azu, and Focus Blast covers mons like Heatran and Tyranitar. I didn't seem to be getting much use out of Roost so I was thinking of replacing it with Air Slash. Thoughts?

latios.png

Latios @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psyshock
- Draco Meteor
- Defog
- Roost

Latios was the next choice for my team because he carries defog and brings more type coverage that MegaZard-Y does not have. Since I'm not running hazard stacking, the difference between Defog and Rapid Spin does not matter very much. The STAB moves that Latios runs completely destroy most things that will switch into it. Still not sure about the final moveslot and whether I should switch Roost with HP Fire or Earthquake. Psyshock breaks special walls that have a not so great defense stat.
bisharp.png

Bisharp (F) @ Black Glasses
Ability: Defiant
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 52 SpD / 204 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- Sucker Punch
- Iron Head
- Pursuit

Bisharp was the next choice because Zard-Y gets walled hard by Latios and Latias, both of which are trapped by Bisharp. Also, I didn't have a switch-in to Gengar yet. It can also kill Clefable, which is definitely a prominent threat in this metagame. Bisharp scares Defog users from using Defog due to Defiant giving it a free SD. Knock Off can cripple Pokemon that use Eviolite such as Chansey and Magneton. It is greatly complemented by mons that deal with fighting types like Latios and Zard-Y.

breloom.png

Breloom (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Technician
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Mach Punch
- Spore
- Bullet Seed
- Swords Dance

Breloom checked a lot of threats that were not previously checked such as: Diggerby, Azumarill, Hippowdon, Mega Lopunny, Tyranitar, and Excadrill. It suffices as a late game cleaner with SD because Charizard and Bisharp are primarily early-mad game Pokes. Spore can hit the unexpected team very hard and allow Breloom to set up an SD for free. Thinking of maybe replacing Swords Dance with Rock Tomb and slapping on a Focus Sash. Mach Punch allows Breloom to fight Weavile which is a mon this team struggles with.
landorus-therian.png

Landorus-Therian @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 8 SpD / 8 Spe
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- U-turn
- Stone Edge

I needed a rock setter and two walls still, so Landorus-T was my next pick as a Pokemon. I didn't share any major weaknesses with the rest of my team, but I had to keep in mind the ice type weakness. Functions as a pivot as well because of U-Turn. Earthquake destoyus many Pokemon like Bisharp and Heatran. Stone Edge to kill pesky Talonflame. Rocks support is just too good to pass up really.
clefable.png

Clefable (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 172 Def / 84 SpD
Calm Nature
- Moonblast
- Calm Mind
- Soft-Boiled
- Thunder Wave

Clefable was my next pick because I needed a special wall and a stallbreaker. Also, Clefable has the immunity to the ever so common dragon type moves. A Thunder Wave landing allows Zard-Y to be faster, and usually one-shot the enemy Pokemon. Calm Mind allows Clefable to force things out such as Mega Altaria, and Make Clefable into an alternative win condition. Soft-Boiled just because recover is too strong to not take if it is available on a wall.

Good changes, I was also finding trouble with Rotom-Wash as well, and these all help with him too. Ill try to implement all of the changes, but I'm still not sure if I want to implement the Starmie for Latios change. Good Job

Zard-Y teams tend to be a tad formulaic, which means there are a number of common Zard-Y builds out there I think you should learn about even if you don't make any changes to the team. Here is a good link to a really good Charizard-Y RMT that will provide better advice than what I can give at this point. Also take a look at Bluwing's triple weather team (it's in the Team Showcase iirc); that's the other common Zard-Y build floating around.

Here is a replay of another good team using Zard-Y. It's from the OLT (M Dragon vs njnp), but it's a really good example of how to handle stall using a Zard-Y team.

I don't have any advice for the current team at the moment; this is my way of providing resources that provide help more than I can with a standard rate. Part of becoming a serious player is learning what resources are out there for teambuilding. This isn't a team I would completely scrap and start from the ground up, but with some more research this team could be a lot better. Hope this helps.

Hi mate, I just dove in to the world of competitive Pokemon play and I must say after hours and hours of looking stuff up and writing stuff down, soaking up information.. I'm still basically where i started. I can't seem to get a clear view on who would have the best synergy or which mons absolutely don't go together.. What I do know, however, is that I want Mega Lopunny to lead my team. I love her design and I heard shes one of the strongest OU pokemon in this metagame atm. This may seem lazy but, you must believe me, I don't even have remotely enough knowledge to put up a decent RMT post. I generally tried to put a team/post together but it's ridiculous how bad they are. So I'm going to be cheeky here and list a few pokemons i would love to have in my team.. if anyone could be so kind to help me assemble my first succesfull OU team I would be forever grateful. I see alot of experts here, I'd love to get your opinions. I'm sosorry I posted this here, I know it doesn't belong here, but I can not seem to find any forum where you can openly ask to assemble a team together without the slightest of knowledge I honestly can't type a detailed RMT. I'm genuinely sorry.

The list:

Mega Lopunny (obviously) Bisharp Azumarill Gengar Tyrannitar Scizor Rotom Sylveon Garchomp Goodra Ferrothorn Clefable Starmie

Here's something from the teambuilding shop with 4/6 of those mons.

If you are just starting out, I would practice with some of the sample teams in that thread to gain experience. Once you are comfortable with that team (or a number of other stolen teams) then I would start building your own team.

I also have an RMT with 4 of those 6 mons, but it's a tad dated and I wouldn't use it in a tournament setting without a major revamp. Feel free to try it on the ladder, though, and make your own adjustments.

Thank you for replying mate, I can't seem to click on the first link with 4/6 mons.

Hi there,

scary looking team you have there, offensive charizard y teams always look scary at first glance, So I did realize your team might of struggled a bit with stall and a bit with gliscor. Clefable is a cool mon but I think that manaphy would be a cool option because double weather is cool as it can cancel out eachother and reset the turns, and will help you out vs fatter teams.

Defensive CM manaphy
manaphy can form a dual weather core with charizard y which I found cool, it also helps your team handle spdef talonflame and gliscor. Spdef talon can wall charizard y and can also wall clefable and check breloom and bisharp. Gliscor also looked threatening even if you did have a charizard as it threatens every other member on your team. Manaphy can help charizard by burning lati and can take advantage of the fact that bisharp can trap the latis and that charizard can take care of his checks while manaphy can widdle down charizards checks

AV bisharp
for a team without a lati switch in or a dragon resist bar bisharp, bisharp has a lot of work it needs to do, and bluntly regular black glasses bisharp cant take the draco well enough to pursuit kill it however when running av you can take the draco better and respond with a pursuit. AV bisharp will be a nice thing to switch into stuff for a team that doesnt have many good mons that can take a hit. Also helps charizard with clefable.
