VGC Zard Y + Venusaur Goodstuff (First RMT)

So I just got back into competitive and decided to give VGC a go. This team is serving me pretty well so far. It's based around the destructive capabilities of Mega Charizard Y and Venusaur. After deciding on the theme, I basically just added good stuff that works well with it and went from there. Here's what I came up with:

Charizard @ Charizardite Y
Ability: Blaze
Level: 50
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Heat Wave
- Solar Beam
- Overheat
- Protect

Charizard is the main guy in this team because he provides Sun and is an extremely powerful wallbreaker. He gets rid of a lot of Venusaur's checks which allows Venusaur to do his thing. I chose Modest over Timid nature to maximise power over Speed since Venusaur can outspeed and Sleep Powder to get rid of faster threats and Choice Scarf users like Landorus-T and Tyranitar.

The moveset is pretty much standard. I like Overheat as a way of killing basically everything that doesn't resist and it makes Charizard incredibly difficult to switch into. Heat Wave for spread and STAB, Solar Beam for Rotom-W and the like. Protect to ease prediction and make Mega-Evolving easier.

Venusaur @ Focus Sash
Ability: Chlorophyll
Level: 50
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Solar Beam
- Sludge Bomb
- Sleep Powder
- Protect

The next part of the offensive core the team is built around. Venusaur reaches unparalleled speeds in Sun thanks to Chlorophyll, allowing it to check a lot of fast offensive threats. It has a very strong primary STAB in Solar Beam and Sludge Bomb is a good secondary STAB. Sleep Powder has been probably the most important move on this set as it neutralises threats and allows other Pokemon to do what they do. It can be unreliable due to only 75% accuracy, but I try not to completely rely on it for that reason. Protect again is fairly standard.

I went for a Modest nature because Timid would be complete overkill since I outspeed most Choice Scarf users anyway, as well as +1 Blaziken. Modest maximises damage, simple as that. I chose Focus Sash as the item because it catches a lot of people off guard and since Venusaur is so quick and powerful, one more turn can often mean one more KO. Honestly, I originally put it on because of item clause and a lack of a better item, but it has actually been extremely useful.

Landorus-Therian @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
Level: 50
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- U-turn
- Knock Off

While the Charizard + Venusaur core is absolutely awesome, it's not without it's weaknesses (also you need 6 Pokemon on your team lol). I needed something to deal with Rock Slide users that threaten Charizard, as well as Tyranitar, because Sand is bad. Scarf Lando-T deals with most of these threats and also provides a pretty nice U-Turn so I can switch into my Zard or Venusaur a bit more easily to set up the sweep. Intimidate is obviously very useful, not much else needs to be said about that. Knock Off is generally very useful to deal with various annoying things. Pretty standard really.

Hitmontop @ Lum Berry
Ability: Intimidate
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Fake Out
- Close Combat
- Wide Guard
- Helping Hand

Perhaps a slightly less standard choice is Hitmontop. I've found him quite useful though to provide another Intimidate user as well as good support moves and decent bulk. He supports both Charizard and Venusaur quite well with Fake Out and more importantly, Wide Guard and Helping Hand. Wide Guard stops Rock Slide which makes things a lot easier for Charizard. Helping Hand can lend a... helping hand...? (I'll show myself out, shall I). Close Combat provides a powerful STAB that deals with a variety of threats, most notably Tyranitar.

The EVs are pretty simple, just maximise Close Combat damage while being bulky. 4 Speed EVs because it might matter at some point. Lum Berry because Thundurus has Sitrus Berry and item clause.

thundurus.gif

Thundurus @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Prankster
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 120 Def / 36 SpA / 68 SpD / 32 Spe
Calm Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Taunt
- Thunder Wave

I thought Thundurus would be a good addition to the team for a number of reasons. Firstly, it's ability to deal with Politoed because opposing weather sucks. Priority Thunder Wave and Taunt can provide very useful Speed control and neutralise a lot of scary things and gimmicks. Thunderbolt is the STAB move of choice and HP Ice severely threatens the likes of Garchomp, Salamence and Landorus.

Don't ask about the EVs, I copied them off the analysis and they are probably explained best there. I don't know what specifically they are designed to do. Feel free to make suggestions to alter them if need be.

Sitrus Berry is to provide longevity and I prefer it over Life Orb here because I don't use Thundurus very offensively on this team.

cresselia.gif

Cresselia @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 172 Def / 84 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Icy Wind
- Psyshock
- Moonlight
- Sunny Day

The final slot on the team goes to Cresselia. I decided I could do with a tank and few are more tanky than Cresselia. She also happens to fit quite well onto this team. Icy Wind support is useful for Charizard in particular. Moonlight is great in the sun as it heals 2/3 rather than just 1/2. I decided to run Sunny Day in the last slot in case Charizard faints and Venusaur still needs the Sun support. Psyshock is the STAB of choice. I chose it over Psychic because my team is quite Special Attack-oriented already.

EVs and nature are standard, I believe, so not much to say about them. Lefties are good because Cresselia has the tendency to stick round for quite a while, so the recovery stacks up.

Cheers in advance for any help anyone gives me, this team is still far from perfect (probably doesn't help that it's being piloted by someone completely new to VGC, to be fair).

Since one has helped you yet I'll give you my mini rate :) nice team btw

Landorus-T- I always think Superpower is nice to help with Heatran and Kangaskhan and honestly U-Turn isn't that good imo so if you want Knock Off I'd replace U-Turn
Cresselia- I'd run Ice Beam over Icy Wind cause you lack a great way to hit Lando-T and Salamence. Also Psyshock only really hits Sylveon and Charizard harder so I recommend Psychic as Cresselia already doesn't hit hard. Also something like Skill Swap is usable over Sunny Day.

Nice team BTW so that is all I got :)

Nice team! I like the Venusaur/ Charizard combination. I'm new to VGC as well, but I have a few suggestions.
Venusaur: You should run Leech Seed over Sleep Power. Without Giga Drain, Venusaur has no method of recovery.
Cresselia: Psychic rather than Psyshock is generally better. Helping Hand or Skill Swap could replace Sunny Day because you can just switch in to M-Charizard Y.
Well, thats all I got. Good luck with this team!

Ya i agree with those but is leech Seed common on sun sweeper venusaur. I've never used it but I've always thought it's job as kinda to plow through things as you can see it is also sashed.
