Welcome to the third iteration of ZU Olympiad!

Your hosts for this edition will be AC7 and FlamPoke!

Feel free to relax and talk about this tournament down below this thread. I have no idea what else to add here, feel free to spam pictures of cute cat to have everyone delighted.

That being said, let the ZU Olympiad III begin!

Toto never made a post confirming....which clearly means this team should be disqualified and the Mailicuous Manectrics rightfully reinstated.
Re: Ivy Gang

It has been brought to the hosting teams attention that Toto, assistant manager of the Ivy Gang, did not make an official confirmation post in the Manager Signup thread as is required. Because of this, the Ivy Gang will be forced to forfeit their position and the host team will auction off their spot between the two unselected pairings. The auction begins at $50 USD and the Brexit Bibarels are first to bid.

Managers, it is I, BP, here to give you the skinny on who you should be looking at drafting for ADV ZU. Many of you have not followed who's who since our little ROA renaissance, but fret not—I know who is worth drafting! I will list users based on their signup number and not viability, so please keep that in mind when reading. I will mention those who I think are top of the pool and should 100% find a spot on a team specifically for ADV ZU.

JoaF
Like many others on this list, this man has been with us since the Money Tour. However, what makes him so excellent is his knowledge of the metagame. He's been an absolute workhorse for the council, helping create resources such as smog dex analysis and sample team submissions. He's been a consistent ADV ZU player and has even branched out and played in the Mushi league this past season. Moreover, he participated in the many opens for ADV Slam, and while I'm unsure if he qualified, I know he's got what it takes to qualify. This man was even drafted in ALTPL for an ADV Metagame, and while he hasn't started, I'm eager to see how he performs!

plznostep
Lol, you guys know this man. He's here to ADV but faces stiff competition from others on this list. Plznostep has shown he has what it takes to win, build, and support. He knows the metagame and continues to contribute resources. This man will be drafted, I have no doubt.

Melninja
This person has a total of 13 messages and 13 reactions. I had no idea who this was until I played them for the ROA tournament. They played and built well, and while, yes, I did get fucked by RNG, I don't think it would've mattered at the end of the day. I think Melninja has the genuine skills to go positive during this tour. Additionally, from what I've I think they build all their own teams as well, so they will not require support. It would be a shame if they were to go undrafted, as I personally would love to see them shake up the pool as an underdog pick.

blundergoth
BG has proven to be a worthwhile ADV slot due to his excellent performance in the ROA tour. The only downside is he may require support to function to his full potential. Despite this, I could see him making waves, much like Melninja, if he can keep a cool head during games and perform like in the ROA tour.

Scizornite
I'd like to inform you that I requested this guy be added to the ADV Council before he qualified and won the ADV Grand Slam. This should tell you everything you need to know about this man. He's a bonafide killer dispatching top ADV contenders in ADV Slam. His building style is incredibly unique and he surprises me almost every game I watch him in. It's no exaggeration to say that this man is tied for first with another user on this list for the top in the pool. What separates them is that Scizornite has a huge win to his name.

Baoba
This guy is the boogeyman. There's no proof of him having accolades like Scizornite does, but he's just as good, if not better. The ADV Pool will come down to who has Scizornite and Baoba. These guys are the best, and I would hate to face them. Baoba stands out because he's extremely consistent and made it the furthest in the money tour out of all the ADV ZU discord members. He is no joke, and I look forward to watching him and Scizornite clash in Olympiad. It will be by far the highlight matchup of the tournament.

thank you so much for not including me bro would cancer if i had to play adv again :extremecheems:

The Venomous Vigilantes won’t be doing tryouts because I’m too lazy and obb doesn’t feel like doing them either but if you’re interested in being drafted by us feel free to send me a message with reasons why we should draft u either on smogon or on discord (baitwiz there as well) :woo:

If you want to be a playoff contender host tryouts and base your draft picks on who has the most accurate predicts

Similarly to BP's ADV post, here is my RBY post. I still wish I could start a couple weeks in RBY, but given the state of the SV pool, I understand my chances at playing RBY ZU are low. With this in mind, I'd like the right people to start in RBY.

Maris Bonibell
I don't think this needs any explanation. They won RBY ZU Cup and are just one of the best RBY lower tiers player; they should be your default option for RBY. I'd expect around 4 wins from them in regular season.

torkonpeter
torkon was crucial support to BLAZE's RBY success last year, and is very passionated about the tier. They seem to get a good pilot as well, and should be self sufficient. I'd expect around 3 wins from them in regular season.

NotVeryCake
Cake played RBY ZU last year with a decent record, and while they didn't have a great showing at RBY ZU Cup (they had to face the mighty Tuthur and his RNG abuse capacities round 1), there is no doubt confidence should be quite high for them. I'd expect around 3 wins from them in regular season.

SaDiSTiCNarwhal
In a vaccum, I believe Narwhal is the player with the highest ceiling there. However, I've some question marks about his ability to prepare in the tier without torkonpeter, especially since it looks nothing alike last year and Narwhal is more known for OU and Ubers which play quite differently from ZU. I'd expect around 2 wins from them in regular season.

YBW
YBW has no notable showings in RBY ZU as far as I can tell. However they are a known good RBY player who doesn't limit themselves to OU. I'd expect about 2 wins from them in regular season.

PKMN Master™
Shane was goat support in our RBY teamchat and is very passionated about competing in RBY. I don't think they have any notable tournament achievement, but there is noone on the remaining pool that I believe should ever start over them. They'll get the work done and will remain motivate for the whole tournament. I'd expect about 2 wins from them in regular season.

Maris Bonibell
I don't think this needs any explanation. What results do they have, going out in RBY OU invitational play-ins r1?

torkonpeter
I don't think this needs any explanation. They won rby zoomer.

NotVeryCake
I don't think this needs any explanation. Persistent Positive RNG doesn't work on non mainers

SaDiSTiCNarwhal
I don't think this needs any explanation. However, I've some question marks about his ability to prepare in the tier without the rby zoomer winner.

YBW
I think this needs an explanation. Yes Big Wins

PKMN Master™
I don't think this needs any explanation. He's called PKMN Master(tm). He might be the goat.

Tuthur
I don't think this needs any explanation. Have you seen the state of the RBY pool?

My Personal ADV ZU Player Rankings:
The ADV ZU player pool is perhaps one of the most competitive pools out there. With the combination of many established players and several potential hotshots that are looking for a point to prove, ADV ZU has the potential to be the most exciting tier throughout this tour. Today I will be providing my own personal ADV ZU player rankings and going into some depth on why these players have what it takes.

1) Baoba - There could only be two candidates for this number 1 spot, that being Baoba and Scizornite. I feel Baoba and Scizornite are very difficult to rank in terms of who is the number 1 and 2 in this slot. Both are tournament proven, with Baoba winning the ADV ZU tour for Grand Slam while Scizornite has both a Grand Slam Playoffs win (featuring ZU) and an ADV ZU Spotlight Tour win. You could pick either one of these and you wouldn't be making a bad decision. In my personal opinion however, I've opted for Baoba because he has been more consistent when it comes to his tournament performances, and he is more likely to perform against tough matchups in any given situation.

2) Scizornite - While I have Scizornite placed below Baoba, Scizornite has many qualities that makes him a top candidate. Scizornite has potentially the highest skill ceiling out of the entire pool, backed up by his Grand Slam win, and Scizornite is a dedicated performer within ADV. Both he and Baoba will be a fun watch this season, and I would suggest to managers to splash the credits to acquire these two.

3) PlzNoStep - PlzNoStep is another seriously fun watch because he is a very diverse builder and player. Steppy is a balance Queen amongst ZU, and his innovations throughout have been a joy to watch. He is not afraid to experiment, and has the confidence to slay the competition. PlzNoStep doesn't have as high of ceiling compared to Baoba or Scizornite on this list, but he can most certainly match them in consistency. We shall see what Steppy does in this tour.

4) JoaF - JoaF is a very talented & generally good player. My question marks for JoaF this tour are how consistent will he be throughout this tour. He has the 3rd highest skill ceiling out of the player pool that I've mentioned, and he isn't afraid to turn down a challenge, but will his performances translate to results? He should be a moderately cheap pickup, and he can be a key piece into any team's tournament win with the right support.

[While I won't do anything formal about my reasoning, this is where I would place Hachimaki at this point in time. If you draft Hachimaki, you are likely to pick up numerous wins throughout the tour]

5) MelNinja - I'm honestly not certain on the placement of Melninja. I think a good comparison to make rn with Melninja is with 5Dots, where both are solid players at their respective tiers, but do tend to get lucky in a fair amount of sets. Melninja should be able to make waves in the tour with the right support though, and don't go sleeping on this potential darkhorse.

6) Bydy - A player who I am certain on his ability however is Bydy. A generally capable player with and without support, and he has lots of overall experience within the ADV tier. I will say Bydy doesn't have as high of a ceiling compared to the rest of the players above him on this list, but Bydy is certainly a capable enough player that could be worth watching.

7) BP - BP is a difficult person to rank. This is because BP is a capable player on his own, but he is often better as someone who is sitting back and providing support. This is probably where I'd fit him based on his knowledge and support. BP probably won't be starting every game but will provide key secondary ADV help that will push other players over the line.

8) THE_CHUNGLER - I won't lie, THE_CHUNGLER has made a habit of doing well in performances but just not quite being clutch enough in finals results. However, THE_CHUNGLER has proven to be a solid force within the ADV and ZU community, reaching the finals of the ADV Grand Slam as well as the finals of the Spotlight tour, both of which unfortunately losing out to Scizornite. THE_CHUNGLER is a great all-round player and support option for teams, he will grind out wins, and he should be a joy to watch. He can also play GSC and SV too!

9) BlunderGoth - Compared to BP's personal rankings, this feels somewhat low, but regardless I think BlunderGoth has really good potential to be a dark horse during this tour. The main drawbacks to BlunderGoth however are the support that is required and there are inconsistencies, but if you are willing to take a punt, then BG is the perfect option for you!

10) Big Tony 2014 - I've felt like I've been a bit of Big Tony 2014 hater lately, but I reckon he can contribute significantly to any given team. The main reason he is ranked lower is because he has been somewhat hit or miss as of late, and there have been recent showings where the Big T-Dog has fallen short. Provide Big Tony 2014 some support, and he will suit any team (he can also play SV and ORAS too!).

Quick HMs to TheyCallMePhil, MJ, Wooper, and Alice Kazumi regarding this slot. These four players all have what it takes to play ADV ZU, but all four of these I imagine will be better suited in other tiers (TCMP is very flexible and may suit RBY given support, MJ is an absolute weapon in SV, Wooper is an overall support juggernaut, and Alice Kazumi is within my top 3 picks for GSC ZU).

Appreciate everyone for taking their time to read this, and GSC ZU Player Rankings coming soon...
