Welcome to the ZU Summer Seasonal! This is the first tournament of our first season! Entering and winning in this seasonal earns you points for an overall ZU leaderboard. After four seasonals, the top 16 players on this leaderboard will enter a seeded playoffs, where the winner of the tournament will become the ZU champion!

SPECIFIC RULES
  • This is a standard Gen 7 ZU Tournament. All matches must be played in "[Gen 7] ZU".
  • This tournament will be Double Elimination.
  • All rounds will be Best of Three. You may switch teams in between battles of the same set.
  • Matches are to be played on Pokemon Showdown (or SmogTours server).
  • To encourage the development of the metagame, and so that everyone is on an even playing field, all matches must have replays recorded. If neither player posts replays of the match, regardless of whether you confirm that your opponent won, your series will be coinflipped unless you can provide replays. We will not disqualify both players, but we will coinflip the series, not because we don't believe that you played, but because the replay rule ensures everyone is on an even playing field, as stated. If you wish for your replays to stay hidden, you may PM them to me instead.
  • ZU is a usage based tier. Essentially you can use anything that is not in a higher tier; PU effectively serves as the ZU banlist. However, there are several Pokemon banned from ZU which are not in PU or a higher tier; aka ZUBL.
  • Every round, I may choose several games as the Highlight Matches.
Clauses:
  • Sleep Clause Mod: Limit one foe put to sleep
  • Species Clause: Limit one of each Pokemon
  • OHKO Clause: OHKO moves are banned
  • Moody Clause: Moody is banned
  • Evasion Moves Clause: Evasion moves are banned
  • Endless Battle Clause: Forcing endless battles is banned
  • HP Percentage Mod: HP is shown in percentages
General Tournament Rules:
  • Identity: I expect many battles to be completed under alts. This can be bad for tournament security, and thus I will make this clear: If I hear any whispers of identity theft (battling as someone you are not) or proxy battling (helping someone else battle through pm) I will not be pleased and I will take severe actions.
  • Scouting: Next, I do not want to hear anything about counterteaming, at all. Do not complain about it. I also don't want to hear about any blatant scouting. There is a difference between "[user] is known for using stall" and "let me follow [user] around all day to watch all his battles since I am his opponent". I expect a lot of the former and none of the latter. I give permission to all battlers to ask any person spectating their battle to leave if they do not want them watching. Everyone will have access to your replays from earlier rounds though.
  • Timer Clause: As for taking long between moves, if your opponent asks you to hurry up, please oblige. If you are doing a damage calc for a key turn that is one thing, but prolonging every move is suspicious and annoying. Don't do it. Furthermore, Battle Timeout is a rule for a reason. If you run out of time, you lose, simple as that. It does not matter what your opponent says. Do not battle if you think you will have to leave mid battle, and instead reschedule for a better time.
  • Disconnections: Finally, in the case of a disconnect, the decision is in the hands of the player who did not disconnect. The options are: redo the battle move for move, redo the battle with the same teams but different moves, or redo the battle with completely different teams. If the battle was without a doubt over, they may also take the win. Any suspicion that a disconnect was committed on purpose to redo a match may be appealed to me, and if I feel this happened there will be severe consequences, don't do it.

As a disclaimer: Since I plan to join this tournament, I will provide evidence of pairing randomization and/or have someone else do pairings for me each round.

Totally Unbiased predictions by yours truly.

Winner's Bracket:
LightPinkYoshi vs. RawMelon - he's winning this tour.
czim vs. CrazyStevy - Czim is solid, but CS may catch him off guard with odd sets.
Pohjis vs. Megazard - Both are really solid players but Zard is probably the better builder and may have more knowledge.

Loser's Bracket:
Plans vs. Ktütverde - Ktuts been on a roll lately and plans wants to quit tours, but he's the mf man.
Jmash324 vs. 5gen - HL match imo. Both are great players, but im not sure how much time Jsmash has putting into ZU. May come down to who builds the better team.
Graceclaw vs. Skipkan - sorry don't know either of these players.

gonna leave my opinion on this round prediction wise
winners:
LPY vs Rawmelon - i think this will likely be the hl match this round, i'm gong to give the slight edge to raw though, because these players know how eachother build and if you know lpy well enough he will fall over
czim vs crazystevy - Czim is the better player imho, probably 65-35 in his favor
Pohjis vs MZ - both super solid players/builders, can't really choose one or the other for this one

Losers:
Plans vs Ktut - if they actually play plans wins, else ktut
Jsmash vs 5Gen - another close one, but 5gen overall has more meta knowledge and is a better builder for this meta.
Graceclaw vs Skipkan - gotta vote for my boy

Now that I've lost lets do some predicts!

Winner's bracket:
LightPinkYoshi vs RawMelon - Highlight match of the entire tournament IMO, LightPinkYoshi is a God, but he's also on too little sleep and it'll cost him in a crucial way game 2 after winning clean game 1 because of how amazing he is. Game 3 he'll have a chance but ultimately get outplayed by his superior opponent.

Pohjis vs Megazard - Megazard will probably get haxed to hell game 1, but bring it back with a vengeance game 2 and eek out a close game 3.

Czim vs CrazyStevy - IDK this match hasn't happened yet.

Loser's bracket:
5gen vs Jmash324 - Both of these players are really solid, but after falling behind early, Jmash's unshakeable mental game and true confidence in his teams will prevail as 5gen tries to make a few plays too many.

Plans vs Ktutverde - See Czim vs CrazyStevy

Graceclaw vs Skipkan - I beat Skipkan so he has my blessing and that's really all you need in life.
