SS OU Zydog U-turn offense (It’s decent trust me)

Soooo I’m really feeling good today so I decided to post this team that a spent a bit of time building over the course of this week. I went over to my dead test account (I was grinding for reqs) and I started from 1500, and just a few games later I managed to hit 1700 relatively easily, so I’m already feeling good about this squad. Anyways, onto the team!

Switchin? (Zygarde-10%) @ Choice Band
Ability: Aura Break
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Thousand Arrows
- Iron Tail
- Extreme Speed
- Toxic

Banded Zydog, the star of the show. With thousand arrows hitting all of the many OU birds, all it takes is a bit of weakening for Thousand Arrows to lack a switchin, And to nab a KO every time you get it in. Iron tail to 2hit clef, scare it out, then double accordingly to but it in thousand arrows range. Extreme Speed to go before priority like rilla’s grassy glide as well as rkill pokemon such as zera and koko who, surprisingly, don’t seem to expect it. Toxic, finally, is to hit tang, defensive lando, slowbro, all that annoying stuff that zydog despises.

Shell Of A Man (Slowking-Galar) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 236 SpA / 20 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Sludge Bomb
- Psyshock
- Future Sight
- Earthquake

This is the specially defensive backbone of the team. As you’ll see with the rest of this team’s members, they don’t have a very good matchup versus Volc, Kyurem or heatran, and Gkings offensive presence and future sight is very helpful for zydog, which is why I chose it over bliss. As you can see, I’ve invested a very large amount of Sptack and traded flamethrower/scald for psyshock. The reason is because this set is specifically made to beat bulky volc, with enough sptack so max HP volc dies in 2 hits to psyshock after a sludge bomb poison, while offensive variants get 2shotted outright by psyshock. This still maintains the utility of Gking, so I didn’t mind sacrificing a bit of bulk and some coverage to beat volc.

$wagnezone (Magnezone) @ Metal Coat
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 236 Def / 52 SpA / 220 Spe
Modest Nature
- Iron Defense
- Body Press
- Thunderbolt
- Flash Cannon

My favorite magnezone set: the set that traps ferro, corv and skarm yet still has a roll even when there’s no steel to trap. Iron defense and body press are mandatory for trapping ferro, and flash cannon and thunderbolt is just about as good coverage as you’re gonna get out of this mon. My item is Metal Coat because when people see iron defense and body press, their first instinct is to go into lando or garchomp. With metal coat, you 2hko both of those with flash cannon, as well as 2hko +1 clef so that’s also cool. The speed is to outspeed zero speed mandi, so they can’t get a free u-turn and keep momentum vs zone. Gking also very much appreciates this mon, as my set is completely walled by both steel birds and ferro.

♫Grass Monkey!♫ (Rillaboom) @ Choice Band
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Grassy Glide
- Wood Hammer
- Knock Off
- U-turn

Basically this just abuses the fuck out of zone (as always) as well as provide my team with both a powerful offensive presence and speed control, allowing me to forgo a scarfer. Nothing special about this set, just knock off shed shells and boots, U-turn on the steel birds and ferro, revenge things with grassy glide and smack things slower than you with wood hammer. It’s just Rillaboom.

LandOUrus-T (Landorus-Therian) @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 104 Atk / 152 Def
IVs: 30 Spe
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Knock Off
- Stealth Rock

An offensive twist to OU’s typical defensive lando. With knock off over toxic, you can knock off pesky helmets and get rid of boots while also getting rocks up. The attack is specifically to 2hko offensive garchomp after rocks, which allows it to be a pretty solid answer between that strong earthquake and rillaboom’s grassy glide. 30 Speed IVs is to guaranteed lose the speed tie vs other zero speed lando and get the slow u-turn, since you don’t need the extra speed point for anything anyway. Basically I needed a rocker and a defensive wall so lando was the first mon to come to my mind.

Excalibird (Corviknight) @ Leftovers
Ability: Mirror Armor
EVs: 252 HP / 96 Def / 132 SpD / 28 Spe
Careful Nature
- Roost
- Defog
- Taunt
- Brave Bird

I’m actually very surprised at how good this set has been doing. I needed a defogger and a pult answer, so I chose corviknight. To counter specs pult, I need a lot of spdef invested and mirror armor to prevent spdef drops, in which case I would have to sack a mon. But, since I wasn’t pressure, my opponent could pp stall my defog with their stealth rock easily, so I needed to put taunt to prevent that. Also, I wanted it to beat rillaboom, so I EVd it so that +2 adamant life orb superpower didn’t ohko after stealth rock and Leftovers recovery, and after the defense drop would be killed by brave bird. Since pult could easily toast me with a fire move, Gking was usually a good bet to switch in if you aren’t sure if they’d click shadow ball or a fire move, as shadow ball does under 50 if timid and can regen off most of the damage as corv switches in. This corv also beats things like cm clef (and just clef in general), which my team doesn’t really want to give free turns to, as magnezone only has so much power coming off of flash cannon. Also, it’s important to note that it’s very good that Pokémon such as blissey and other bulkier mons that are hit by rocks can’t recover vs it, which means that zydog has a much easier time sweeping through after all of the defensive mons are weakened enough to be put in 2hko range of its devastating thousand arrows.

So that’s the team! It’s a bit weak to pex, but Gking is a good soft check with future sight + psyshock. Post your thoughts/ranking down below and have a nice day! :]

Cool team but if you want a defogger and a answer to specs pult you could use mandibuzz who is also a better mixed wall.
Thanks for the suggestion! Tbh I'm not sure why Mandi didn't come to mind when I was thinking about a defogger that beats pult, but after a bit of testing, I found out that taunt corv fits the team better. Not letting things recover is extremely helpful, and it's toxic immunity provides a much more solid answer to hippo. And no, taunt Mandi can't fill the role of a taunt abuser, since it can't taunt Clef, a crucial target.
